Marc Mutz 34c2a1dcf0 QFormLayout: fix use-after-free in clearQLayoutItem()
Found by ASan when it should have been found by me in the initial
review...

The old code did, in this order:

1. delete item->layout() (which deletes item, as QLayoutItem::layout()
is just a dynamic_cast implemented with virtual functions)

2. delete item->widget() (which is correct, but too late, as 'item'
may have already been deleted; this is the first use-after-free
   bug)

3. delete item->spacerItem() (which is the second use-after-free).

Fix by deleting item->widget() (which may be a no-op), _then_ checking
for a QLayout, deleting all children (but not the layout), and finally
deleting item as a QLayoutItem.

Rename clearQLayoutItem() to clearAndDestroyQLayoutItem() to better
match what it actually does.

When the mouse is clicked on the widget in a window while a popup is

If the widget is in a stacked layout then calling raise() on it can cause
it to appear on top so avoid this by calling raise() directly on the

Tor Arne Vestbø 6a35e77ef3 Change confusing Q_DEAD_CODE_FROM_QT4_FOO define
Commit c5db8fc74 changed all instances of Q_WS_FOO to have the prefix
Q_DEAD_CODE_FROM_QT4 instead, to make it clearer when reading the code
that the code in question was a left-over from Qt4, when we used
Q_WS_ defines instead of Q_OS_ defines.

This worked well for cases of #ifdef Q_DEAD_CODE_FROM_QT4, but less so
for cases of #ifndef Q_DEAD_CODE_FROM_QT4, where the code was actually
unconditionally included.

To make this even clearer, the defines have been replaced by checks for
1 or 0, with a comment describing how the code used to look in Qt4. The
use of constants in the check also makes it easier for editors to parse
the condition and show visually that the code is defined out.

Marc Mutz daaa1a287b Plug leak in QFormLayout::setWidget()
Unlike layouts and spacer items, a QWidget is-not-a QLayoutItem.
QWidgetItem simply wraps the QWidget, so in QFormLayout::setWidget(),
we allocate a widget item for the widget passed, and hand that down
to Private::setItem() for adding to the various data structures.

Private::setItem() has a bunch of guard clauses, though, that return
without deleting the item.

A test triggered this code path and made asan complain.

This is just one part of a larger problem: QFormLayout::setLayout()
normally takes ownership of the layout passed, because QLayouts own
their QLayoutItems, and QLayout is-a QLayoutItem. But setLayout()
fails to live up to the owner role when it fails to add a layout,
and there's no easy way for the API user to check for success.

A fix for this breaks tst_qformlayout, and while those checks that
break deserve to be broken, I'll refrain from proposing the larger
fix for 5.6 LTS, but will propose it for 5.8 or 5.9 instead.

This fix here only fixes the leak in setWidget() by adding a bool
return to Private::setItem() informing Private::setWidget() of the
need to manually delete the item it allocated for the widget.

The problem is that the casts are done outside the switch that
determines the event's type, so for any given event object, at least
any two of the casts are invalid.

This could actually be a real problem, because it's trivial for a
compiler to prove that these three lines unconditionally invoke UB, so
it has all the right in the world to decide to drop the complete rest
of the function, using this line of reasoning:

1. The only way for these three casts not to be UB is if event ==
   nullptr.

2. If event == nullptr, then event->type() invokes UB, so event cannot
   be nullptr.

3. The only way both can be true is if this code path is never
taken. I can thus assume that

      object == state && event->type() == QEvent::Timer

is always true, drop the check and execute the if block
unconditionally (I need to call QEvent::type(), to satisfy the
as-if-rule, but I needn't check its return value).

Fix by moving the casts where they belong: into each case of the
switch, where the type of the event has been checked to match the
target type of the cast.

Błażej Szczygieł 25c9a6c9b4 QtWidgets: Fix enter/leave events on popup menus
If the sloppy menu popups - send the leave event to the last active
menu (except Cocoa), because only currect active menu gets enter/leave
events (currently Cocoa is an exception).

Check that the menu really has a mouse before hiding the sloppy menu -
don't rely on enter events.

This patch removes some unnecessary synthetic mouse enter/leave events
from QMenu which causes event duplications with different mouse cursor
position.

Refactor sloppy menu timer handling - start or restart timers on mouse
move events. Enter/leave events are not reliable.

Fixes:
- better enter/leave events handling for native widget actions,
- reduce duplicated enter/leave events for menu actions,
- better handle torn off sloppy menus.

Child widgets should get the show/hide event when the TLW changes its
state, because child widgets are also visible or invisible. This
restores the Qt4 behavior (fixes the Qt4->Qt5 regression).

Restoring/minimizing the TLW now sends the spontaneous show/hide event.

Show events are now handled also in the expose event handler in the
QWidgetWindow class, because the show event must occur before the
expose event to avoid possible flicker e.g. the OpenGL content. This
can happen e.g. on XCB platform. If the "WindowStateChange" event occur
before the expose event (e.g. Windows platform) then the code in expose
event handler will be ignored to prevent event duplications.

Added autotest.

Alexandru Croitor 00061b968d Fix opaque texture-based widgets not being always shown.
Whenever a regular QWidget contains a child render-to-texture widget
(like a QOpenGLWidget) that is opaque (attribute
Qt::WA_OpaquePaintEvent is set) and completely covers the parent
geometry, the child widget would not be shown.

This happens because QWidgetBackingStore::doSync contains a check to
see if an opaque child completely covers its parent, in which case it
does not draw the parent, and only draws the child.

This is an issue if the widget is actually a texture-based one, because
for it to be seen on screen, the parent widget has to be redrawn with a
proper blending mask, so that the rtt widget gets properly composed
into the place where the mask is.

The fix consists in keeping the parent widget being marked dirty, in case
it has an opaque texture-based child that completely covers it. This will
force a redraw of the parent widget with a proper blending mask.

Ralf Jung cdf1e67de1 QDesktopWidget: fix tracking QScreens.
The old code failed to reliably detect new QScreens and connect their signals to
its own slots. For example, if the QApplication added a new screen at the
beginning of the screen list (which happens if the new screen is primary), the
signal-connecting loop would actually instead add the now second screen to
QDesktopWidget's list *again*, and connect its signals, but not connect any
signal to the new, first screen.

Furthermore, QDesktopWidget would miss geometry changes because QWidget (and
hence QDesktopScreenWidget) automatically shrinks when the screen it is on gets
smaller.

To fix all of this, QDesktopScreenWidget now keeps its own record of the screen
and its geometry, and it always scans over the entire screen list without
relying on any ordering guarantees on behalf of QApplication.

Błażej Szczygieł bc410cc706 QtWidgets: Reduce paint events when resizing native widget
This patch reduces paint events by removing code which sets native
widgets dirty in QWidgetWindow::handleExposeEvent. Native widgets are
also marked dirty in QWidgetPrivate::drawWidget, so it is enough for
proper painting.

This restores Qt4 behavior when one resize means one repaint for native
widgets. Without this patch the native widget is marked as dirty on
every expose event, so one repaint is from syncBackingStore and second
(or more) is from marking the widget dirty explicitly.

This patch improves performance of native widgets and it also reduces
locks when paint event is v-synced, e.g. on OpenGL swap buffers or on
any other technology like VDPAU, VA-API, etc.

Added autotest for checking number of paint events for native widgets.

Mike Krus 03e9c6f4a6 Add support for Apple tvOS
Pass -xplatform macx-tvos-clang to configure to build.
Builds device and simulator by default.

Added ‘uikit’ platform with the common setup.
Also added QT_PLATFORM_UIKIT define (undocumented).
qmake config defines tvos (but not ios).

tvOS is 64bits only (QT_ARCH is arm64) and requires bitcode to be
embedded in the binary. A new ‘bitcode’ configuration was added.
For ReleaseDevice builds (which get archived and push to the store),
bitcode is actually embedded (-fembed-bitcode passed to clang). For all
other configurations, only using bitcode markers to keep file size
down (-fembed-bitcode-marker).

Build disables Widgets in qtbase, and qtscript (unsupported,

Gabriel de Dietrich ce37467acf Acknowledge QWidgetWindow::widget() may be null
We guard QWidgetWindow's widget with a QPointer to avoid
sending it events during destruction (which may result in
undefined behavior, since this originates from ~QObject and
we expect the object to behave as a QWidget). Therefore, we
need to harden all access to that widget since it can now
be null, specially during destruction.

As an example, QGestureManager may crash when we delete a
top-level widget. The crash stack trace is:

Marc Mutz 5a76a3fb03 QtBase: use printf-style qWarning/qDebug where possible (II)
The printf-style version of QDebug expands to a lot less code than the
std::ostream-style version. Of course, you pay in type safety (but
compilers warn about it these days), you cannot stream complex Qt
types and streaming QStrings is awkward, but in many cases you
actually improve on readability.

But the main reason is that something that's not supposed to be
executed under normal operation has no business bloating executable
code size.

This is not an attempt at converting all qWarnings() to printf-style,
only the low-hanging fruit.

In this second part, replace
   qWarning() << "" << non-QString
with
   qWarning("..%.", non-QString).

QString (and QUrl etc) have special escaping handling when streamed
into QDebug, so leave those alone. They also seem to expand to less
code than the qPrintable() alternative, so there's no reason to
replace them.

Saves 2KiB, 3.4KiB, ~750b and ~450b in text size in QtCore, Gui,
Network and Widgets, resp., on optimized GCC 5.3 AMD64 builds.

Shawn Rutledge f931e5e72d add cross-platform tablet->mouse event synth; enable on Android
It's urgent to fix the issue that on Android, it became impossible
to interact with any widget or MouseArea which handles only mouse
events but not tablet events, using the stylus, because stylus events
are sent only as QTabletEvents. Before 5.6 (change
01d78ba86a) they were sent as
touch events, and mouse events were synthesized from those. Whereas
on other platforms, every QTabletEvent is followed by a synthesized
QMouseEvent.

This fix proceeds in the direction that event synthesis should be done
in cross-platform code so that platform plugins don't have to repeat it,
following the same pattern as for touch->mouse synthesis. Just as
in that case, the application can disable it, and the platform plugin
can also report that it's unnecessary for Qt to do the synthesis
because the platform already does.

So QTBUG-51618 is fixed, but QTBUG-47007 requires us to remove the
tablet->mouse synthesis from all platform plugins, because the plugin
does not know whether the tablet event was accepted or not, so it does
not have enough information to decide whether to synthesize a mouse
event. Synthesis has been unconditional until now, which contradicts
what the documentation says: the mouse event should be sent only if
the tablet event is NOT accepted. We can now gradually make this
promise come true.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][Tablet support] A synthetic mouse event will
no longer be sent after every QTabletEvent, only after those which are
not accepted (as documented).

Marc Mutz b4fa18a996 Revert "Handle the QWidgetPrivate::mapper structure"
This reverts commit 90de48493be283b9afb249f6a0fd8dbd8958517d.

The call isn't necessary, but invokes undefined behavior.

It invokes undefined behavior because deleteTLSysExtra() is called
from deleteExtra(), which is called from ~QWidgetPrivate(), which is
called from ~QObject(). Thus, by the time we call q->windowType()
within setWinId(), q is no longer a QWidget, but only a QObject, and
calling a QWidget member function then is UB.

UBSan confirms:

qwidget_p.h:300:5: runtime error: downcast of address 0x2afdd4053620 which does not point to an object of type 'QWidget' (the Q_Q macro)
0x2afdd4053620: note: object is of type 'QObject'
qwidget.cpp:1712:93: runtime error: member call on address 0x2afdd4053620 which does not point to an object of type 'QWidget'
0x2afdd4053620: note: object is of type 'QObject'

It is also unnecessary:

deleteTLSysExtra() is called from two places: QWidget::destroy() and
deleteExtra(). deleteExtra() is only called from ~QWidgetPrivate()
which is only called from ~QObject() called by ~QWidget(), which,
however, already calls QWidget::destroy(). QWidget::destroy(), in
turn, unconditionally (for non-desktop widgets, at least) calls
setWinId(0) itself.

So fix the UB by removing the call without replacement.

Olivier Goffart c9210d392c Add argument names to the function signatures in headers
Sometimes, in the .cpp, the declaration has the argument name in comments
because it is not used (instead of using Q_UNUSED). The old qdoc could
parse that, but once clang is used, these comments are not seen anymore.

So add the argument names to the headers. This is also good for things
like auto completion, which uses only the header to know what the
argument name is.

I grepped for " */)" and made sure all the functions that are documented
have the right arguments. I also added the name to all the function around
for consistency.

Gabriel de Dietrich 85a57f7a2e Wheel event widget: Harden logic an extra bit
This is quite an unlikely scenario, but not impossible.

It could be that the wheel widget is destroyed during
an update phase event. In that case, wheel_widget would
be a dangling pointer for any subsequent wheel event.
We protect against this with a QPointer.

However, that would mean that if the next wheel event
were to be an end phase event, that event would be lost.
So we go through the usual code path, except that we won't
set wheel_widget in the case of an end phase event.

Marc Mutz 3856099d9a QGestureManager: fix UB in filterEvent()
The code infers from the presence of an address in a
QHash<QGesture *, ...> that the address belongs to a
QGesture. So far that is fine enough.

But in order to perform the lookup, it static_cast<>s
the QObject* argument to a QGesture* for the QHash::
contains() call. Even though the pointer is not
dereferenced, the cast is UB. Says UBSan:

qgesturemanager.cpp:558:73: runtime error: downcast of address 0x2ab83364f3a0 which does not point to an object of type 'QGesture'
0x2ab83364f3a0: note: object is of type 'QDBusConnectionManager'

which is a particularly hideous error message because
of the constantly-changing completely-unrelated actual
type in the second line of the message:

     52 QDBusConnectionManager
     19 QSocketNotifier
     14 QFusionStyle
     13 QAction
      6 QApplication
      3 QGraphicsWidget
      1 Window
      1 TestRunnable
      1 RectWidget
      1 QTimer
      1 QSingleShotTimer
      1 QOffscreenSurface
      1 QGraphicsProxyWidget
      1 QDefaultAnimationDriver
      1 QDBusPendingCallWatcherHelper

This error is also _very_ common, triggered 116 times
in a single run of make -C tests/auto check.

Fix by using qobject_cast first and then doing the
lookup only when the cast succeeded.

Depending on the performance of qobject_cast<>, this
may actually perform better, too.

Marc Mutz 1b441c3941 Q*Application: fix UB caused by accessing QGuiApplication from QCoreApplication ctor
As reported by ubsan:

src/gui/kernel/qplatformintegration.cpp:463:10: runtime error: downcast of address 0x7ffdc2942490 which does not point to an object of type 'QGuiApplication'
0x7ffdc2942490: note: object is of type 'QCoreApplication'

src/gui/kernel/qplatformintegration.cpp:466:43: runtime error: member call on address 0x7ffdc2942490 which does not point to an object of type 'QGuiApplication'
0x7ffdc2942490: note: object is of type 'QCoreApplication'

to name just a few which are reported when running gui and widget
auto-tests; there're definitely more where these came from.

This is caused by QCoreApplication::init() being called from the
QCoreApplication ctor, calling virtual functions on Q*AppPrivate,
which happen to attempt, in this case, to emit QGuiApp signals.
At that point in time, the QGuiApplication ctor has not entered
the constructor body, ergo the object is still a QCoreApplication,
and calling the signal, as a member function on the derived class,
invokes UB.

Fix by cleaning up the wild mix of initialization functions used in
this hierarchy. The cleanup restores the

  1. Q*ApplicationPrivate::Q*ApplicationPrivate()
  2. Q*ApplicationPrivate::init(), calling each base class'
     init() as the first thing

two-stage construction pattern commonly used elsewhere in Qt to make
sure that the public class' object is fully constructed by the time
each level's Private::init() is called.

Morten Johan Sørvig bcd88d8e99 Add QWheelEvent::inverted()
Some consumers of wheel events need to know if the
scrolling direction is inverted in order to provide
consistent behavior.

For example, the scrolling direction of a horizontal
slider should not change when the user toggles the
"natural scrolling" setting on OS X. In this case
the inverted bit will change state and the slider
can compensate.

This change adds a bit to QWheelEvent and sets it
on OS X.

Alexander Volkov 559152d911 Make an implicit grab on TouchBegin for a widget subscribed to a gesture
A receiver of TouchUpdate and TouchEnd events is determined either
as a widget which has an implicit grab for the touch point or as a
visible widget if there are no implicit grabs. The events are sent
if the receiver has accepted TouchBegin event or if it is subscribed
to a gesture. Before sending the events to the widget they are
delivered to the gesture manager. Thus, in order to detect gestures
for the widget, it must own an implicit grab or be a visible widget.

It can happen that the parent widget is subscribed to a gesture, but
doesn't accept TouchBegin event, as in the case of QScrollArea. Then it
will not get an implicit grab and gesture detection will be impossible.

Activate an implicit grab for such widgets. Also don't send TouchUpdate
and TouchEnd to them, because it's against the documentation.

Shawn Rutledge d5fde51410 QWheelEvent: make NoScrollPhase opt-in
The fix for QTBUG-50199 involves adding an undocumented enum value
which can be returned from QWheelEvent::phase(). This will be quite
unexpected for applications that use it, which work fine with 5.6.0
and then start receiving this new phase value in 5.6.1. So it should
not happen by default. Set the env variable
QT_ENABLE_MOUSE_WHEEL_TRACKING to enable this functionality.
In 5.7 it will be default behavior. But in 5.6 the default
behavior is as it was before: if you use a conventional mouse wheel,
the phase stays at ScrollUpdate continuously.

[ChangeLog][QtCore] QWheelEvent::phase() returns 0 rather than
Qt::ScrollUpdate when the wheel event comes from an actual
non-emulated mouse wheel and the environment variable
QT_ENABLE_MOUSE_WHEEL_TRACKING is set. In Qt 5.6, this is required
to enable the fix for QTBUG-50199.

Gabriel de Dietrich f253f4c331 Track target widget when wheel events are received
This issue is reproducible on OS X when using a Magic Mouse
or a combination of Magic Trackpad and regular mouse. In these
cases it's possible to start a scrolling gesture on one widget
and move the mouse cursor over another widget.

Although we send the wheel event phase information, we never
made any use of it. This means that a widget would start
scrolling even though it never received a ScrollBegin event.

In this patch, we make sure the scrolling cycle is respected
and that once a widget starts scrolling, it'll be recieving
all the wheel events until a ScrollEnd event reaches the
application.

For those input devices not supporting a proper phase cycle,
we introduce a new (undocumented) phase value, NoScrollPhase.
If the wheel event phase is NoScrollPhase, then we ignore
the current scroll widget and proceed as usual. This value
is the default for wheel events. It's up to the platform
plugin to set the proper phase value according to the data
received from the OS.

Finally, we fix a few of QWheelEvent constructors to properly
initialize the phase and source properties.

This is the simplest of the patch series: Q_FOREACH took a

It makes little sense to use QStringLiteral for strings which are
immediately appended to, or which are appended to other strings,
because no dynamic memory allocation is saved by doing so. But if
the only advantage of QStringLiteral does not apply, all its
disadvantages dominate, to wit: injection of calls to qstring dtor,
