Marc Mutz 41a994db06 QAnyStringView: add substringing operations
Add the full set of substringing operations:
- mid/left/right (old-style)
- sliced/first/last (new style)
- chop/chopped/truncate

The implementation is copied from QUtf8StringView, adjusted to use
sliced() instead of the (ptr, n) ctor, so we need to deal with the tag
twiddling only once, in sliced().

The documentation is also copied from QUtf8StringView.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QAnyStringView] Added substring functions
sliced(), first(), last(), chop()/chopped(), truncate().

Thiago Macieira 3ef43ca837 QString::fromLatin1: improve the sub-16-character case
For both the [4, 7] and [8,15] length cases, we can perform the same
technique: perform two overlapped loads, zero-extend, then perform two
overlapped stores. The 8-character case could be done in a single
load/store pair, but is not worth the extra conditionals. And it should
have the exact same performance numbers whether we use non-overlapping
4-character operations or completely-overlapping 8-character ones (I
*think* the full overlap is actually better).

The 4-character operation is new in this commit. That reduces the
non-vectorized, unrolled to at most 3 characters.

Rework QSimpleParsedNumber to store a qsizetype whose sign serves as
ok flag (positive is ok, zero and negative are not) and magnitude is
the number of characters used. This replaces an endptr that was set to
null to indicate !ok, but that deprived us of end-of-parse
information, which is needed for number-parsing. In particular, JS's
parsing of numbers accepts overflow (where qstrntod() flags it as
invalid) as infinity; so qstrntod() does need to say how long the
overflowing (but JS-valid, none the less) number-text was.

Modify all callers of functions using this (recently-introduced) type
and add tests that fail without this fix.

Ahmad Samir d9637d0781 QString: don't detach in removeStringImpl()
- If this string is not shared, modify it directly
- If this string is shared, instead of detaching copy the characters
  from this string, except the ones that are going to be removed, to a
  new string and swap it. This is more efficient than detaching, which
  would copy the whole string including the characters that are going
  to be removed.

This affects:
remove(const QString &str, Qt::CaseSensitivity cs)
remove(QLatin1StringView str, Qt::CaseSensitivity cs)

Adjust the unittests to test both code paths.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QString] Improved the performance of
QString::remove() by avoiding unnecessary data copying. Now, if this
string is (implicitly) shared with another, instead of copying
everything and then removing what we don't want, the characters from
this string are copied to the destination, except the ones that need to
be removed.

Marc Mutz 8acec4dbe6 Long live QUtf8::convertFromLatin1()!
With the introduction of QAnyStringView, overloading based on UTF-8
and Latin-1 is becoming more common. Often, the two overloads can
share the processing backend, because we're only interested in the
US-ASCII subset of each.

But if they can't, we need a faster way to convert L1 into UTF-8 than
going via UTF-16. This is where the new private API comes in.

Eventually, we should have the converse operation, too, to complete
the set of direct conversions between the possible three
QAnyStringView encodings L1/U8/U16, but this direction is easier to
code (there are no error cases) and more immediately useful, so
provide L1->U8 alone for now.

Marc Mutz 2fd990b386 Port qCompress() to zstream/deflate()
The zlib convenience API we've been using so far has two problems:

- On Windows-64, where sizeof(long) == 4, the use of ulong for sizes
  meant that we could not compress data compressable on other 64-bit
  platforms (Unix). While zstream also uses ulong, being a stream API,
  it allows feeding data in chunks. The total_in and total_out members
  are only required for gzip compression and are otherwise just
  informational. They're unsigned, so their overflow does not cause
  UB. In summary, using zstream + deflate() allows us to compress more
  than 4GiB of data even on Windows-64.

- On all platforms, we always allocated the output buffer in such a
  way as to accommodate the pathological case of random, incompressible
  data, so the output buffer was larger than the input. Using zstream
  + deflate(), we can start with a smaller buffer, then let zlib pick
  up where it left off when it ran out of output buffer space, saving
  memory in the common case that compression meaningfully reduces the
  size. To avoid the first few rounds of reallocations, we continue to
  use zlib's compressBound() for input less than 256KiB.

This completely fixes the compression side of QTBUG-106542 and

Marc Mutz bda3628402 Port qUncompress() to zstream/inflate()
The zlib convenience API we've been using so far has two problems:

- On Windows-64, where sizeof(long) == 4, the use of ulong for sizes
  meant that we could not uncompress data compressed on other 64-bit
  platforms (Unix). While zstream also uses ulong, being a stream API,
  it allows feeding data in chunks. The total_in and total_out members
  are only required for gzip compression and are otherwise just
  informational. They're unsigned, so their overflow does not cause
  UB. In summary, using zstream + inflate() allows us to decompress
  more than 4GiB of data even on Windows-64.

- On all platforms, if the size hint in the header was too short, we'd
  double the output buffer size and try again, from scratch. Using
  zstream + inflate(), we still need to reallocate, but we can then
  let zlib pick up where it left off when it ran out of output buffer
  space. In all but the most pathological cases, copying the
  already-decoded data instead of re-decoding it again should be
  faster, esp. if QArrayData uses realloc() instead of malloc() +
  free() to grow the buffer.

We also now directly allocate at least as much output buffer as we
have input, to cut the first few rounds of reallocations when the
expectedSize was created, as qCompress still does, using modulo
arithmetic mod 4GiB instead of saturation arithmethic.

Factor the growing of the output buffer into a wrapper function,
flate(), which can be reused when porting qCompress().

This completely fixes the uncompression side of QTBUG-106542 and
QTBUG-104972.

I don't understand why, because we use [&] in the lambda and it should
capture all the variables in theory, but in reality it failed to
capture this variable in the end. And making the variable static
solves this issue. Maybe it's a MSVC bug.

Already tested locally. Most Qt repos build without any issues,

Before searching, foldCase the first up to 256 characters, and use this
buffer to compare against the haystack. If the needle is larger than the
buffer, compare the rest of the needle against the rest of the haystack
for every potential match. The buffer is placed on the stack and must be
refolded for each search, but this change does not break the API.

This is faster than the old implementation, except if the needle is long
and it is found near the beginning of the haystack, or if the needle is
long and it is not found in a short haystack where few comparisons are
done and hence few case foldings were needed in the old implementation.

Benchmarking using tst_bench_qstringtokenizer tokenize_qstring_qstring
shows an improvement for the the total testcase and usually for each
individual test.

Edward Welbourne 6a14ad4993 Perform uiLanguages() likely-adjusted processing purely on IDs
The collection of translations available to us need not have anything
to do with whether CLDR has matching data, so preserve the system UI
language list's entries as they are, rather than forcing them through
the QLocale constructor's exercise of likely sub-tag rules.

Instead, simply parse the given locale tags to QLocaleId instances and
use these in the likely-subtag processing to determine what other
entries to add to the list in addition to those supplied by the
operating system. Since going via QLocale did usually supply a
territory, that was included in the BCP 47 name, it's now possible for
the given entry to lack the language_territory name, so be sure to add
that if missing.

This incidentally reduces heap traffic and saves a fair deal of hidden
likely-subtag processing in calls to the constructor and bcp47Name().

Expand testing of QLocale::uiLanguages(), both plain and system. In
the process, cross-link the two closely-related tests, move a comment
on one's _data() to the other's, where it really belongs, and add
reporting of the actual lists on failure. Enable MySystemLocale to
remember the requested locale's ID, before likely sub-tag processing,
so that we can make query() report results for language, script and
territory as requested, to ensure the fake system locale really does
match what was requested. The new german-britain test failed without
it, because there is no de-GB locale in CLDR.

When the system locale is en_DE, macOS seems to think we should use
en_GB as the right translation. While that probably is a sensible
choice in the absence of an en_DE translation, we should definitely
use the en_DE translation if available, especially if en_GB isn't
available (which lead to a fall-back to de_DE, given later entries in
macOS's list). So prepend the system locale's own pcp47Name() if it
(isn't the C locale and) is missing from what we would otherwise have
used for uiLanguages(), after likely sub-tag perturbations.

Add a test simulating (some approximation to) what macOS was doing
that would have caught this case; and add a scope-guard reporter to
the test to report what shows up when lists don't match.

Giuseppe D'Angelo e540d4a864 QRegularExpression: introduce (global)matchView
QRegularExpression::match (and globalMatch) is currently overloaded
for QString and QStringView. This creates a subtle API asymmetry:

  QRegularExpression re;

  auto m1 = re.match(getQString());       // OK
  auto m2 = re.match(getStdU16String());  // Dangling

This goes against our decision that every time that there's a possible
lifetime issue at play, it should be "evident". Solving the lifetime
issue here is possible, but tricky -- since QRegularExpression
is out-of-line, one needs a type-erased container for the input
string (basically, std::any) to keep it alive and so on.

Instead I went for the simpler solution: deprecate match(QStringView)
and introduce matchView(QStringView) (same for globalMatch). This
makes it clear that the call is matching over a view and therefore
users are supposed to keep the source object alive.

Drive-by, remove the documentation that says that the QString
overloads might not keep the string alive: they do and forever will.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QRegularExpression] Added the matchView()
and globalMatchView() functions that operate on string views.
The match(QStringView) and globalMatch(QStringView) overloads
have been deprecated.

Giuseppe D'Angelo 6f852935e0 QString: fix lifetime issues with QRegularExpression APIs
QString has several functions taking a QRegularExpression: indexOf(),
contains(), and so on. Some of those have an out-argument of type
QRegularExpressionMatch, to report the details of the match (if any).
For instance:

  QRegularExpression re(...);
  QRegularExpressionMatch match;

  if (string.contains(re, &match))
    use(match);

The code used to route the implementation of these functions through
QStringView (which has the very same functions). This however opens
up a lifetime problem with temporary strings:

  if (getString().contains(re, &match))
    use(match); // match is dangling

Here `match` is dangling because it is referencing data into the
destroyed temporary -- nothing is keeping the string alive. This is
against the rules we've decided for Qt, and it's also asymmetric with
the corresponding code that uses QRegularExpression directly instead:

  match = re.match(getString());
  if (match.hasMatch())
    use(match); // not dangling

... although we've documented not to do this. (In light of the decision
we've made w.r.t. temporaries, the documentation is wrong anyways.)
Here QRE takes a copy of the string and stores it in the match object,
thus keeping it alive.

Hence, extend the implementation of the QString functions to keep a
(shallow) copy of the string. To keep the code shared as much as
possible with QStringView, in theory one could have a function taking a
std::variant<QString, QStringView> and that uses the currently active
member. However I've found that std::variant here creates some abysmal
codegen, so instead I went for a simpler approach -- pass a QStringView
and an optional pointer to a QString. Use the latter if it's loaded.

QStringView has some inline code that calls into exported functions, so
I can't change the signature of them without breaking BC; I'm instead
adding new unexported functions and a Qt 7 note to unify them.

Fabian Kosmale 122270d6be Long live the ICU-based QStringConverter interface!
This adds support for additional codecs to QStringConverter when ICU is
available.

We store the converter in the state (d[0]), and its canonical name in
d[1]. We need the name there, as in the clear function we close the
UConverter, and set the pointer to null. Consequently, the actual
conversion functions might need to re-open the converter again. The
advantage of this approach is that clear is used in the destructor of
State, and with this approach we properly clean up the state.
There is however a disadvantage: The clear function was so far also used
for resetting the state when QStringConverter::resetState . Discarding
the whole Uconverter for that is however rather costly. For that reason
we modify resetState to call a new function, State::reset. For existing
converters, it behaves the same as clear; for the ICU based converter,
we call the more efficient ucnv_reset. Code compiled against Qt 6.4 can
benefit from this more efficient version; code compiled against older Qt
versions will continue to work, as the conversion functions can just
recretate the converter from the name.
We can distinguish between ICU and non-ICU converters by checking if the
UsesIcu flag is set.

QStringConverter::name is changed to return the name stored in d[1]. The
interface of the ICU converter has a dummy name, so code using the old
name function from QT < 6.4 still returns something, namely a message
asking the user to recompile.
The function is moved out of line, as we need to check for the private
ICU feature, and want to avoid having that check in the public header.

As the QStringConverter ctor taking a name now can allocate memory, it
can no longer be noexcept. Removing the noexceptness is safe, as it was
only added after Qt 6.3.

Note that we cannot extend the API consuming or returning Encoding, as
we use Encoding values to index into an array of converter interfaces in
inline API.

Further API to support getting an ICU converter for HTML will be added
in a future commit.

Currently, the code depending on ICU is enabled at compile time if ICU
is found. However, in the future it could be moved into a plugin to
avoid a hard dependency on ICU in Core.

[ChangeLog][Corelib][Text] QStringConverter and API using it now
supports more text codecs if Qt is compiled with ICU support.

Marc Mutz e48b4d2b7c Implement support for '0b' prefix in toInt() etc
[ChangeLog][QtCore][QByteArray/QByteArrayView/QLatin1String/QString/QStringView]
The string-to-integer conversion functions (toInt() etc) now support
the 0b prefix for binary literals. That means that base = 0 will
recognize 0b to mean base = 2 and an explicit base = 2 argument will
make toInt() (etc) skip an optional 0b.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][Important Behavior Changes] Due to the
newly-introduced support for 0b (binary) prefixes in integer parsing,
some strings that were previously rejected as invalid now parse as
valid. E.g., Qt 6.3 with autodetected bases would have tried to parse
"0b1" as an octal value and fail, whereas 6.4 will parse it as the
binary literal and return 1.

Edward Welbourne 0b5b98c4ae Fix qlocale_unix's handling of uiLanguages to take script into account
Some languages have, in the same territory, locales for more than one
script. In such cases, since we ignored the script, we got the one
that is used by default, instead of the one actually asked for. Take
the script into account.

Added TODO comment in test listing the known examples of this;
manually tested before and after the fix to verify the prior code was
indeed getting it wrong and now does do it right.

The documentation overtly listed entries in this order but the code
gave less specific entries before more specific (and the tests
verified the same). This is now reversed.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QLocale] uiLanguages() now prefers more specific
locale names over less specific ones, matching its own documentation,
except where the system backend supplies them in some other order.
This means a translation with the expected script and/or territory as
well as language will be used in preference to a generic one for just
the language, rather than only as a fall-back when the more generic
one is missing.

Edward Welbourne 9fee35a2ed Fix assertion failure when parsing a doubly-invalid date-time text
When the date-time string falls in a spring-forward (so is invalid)
and one of the fields of the parsed string doesn't match the format
it's meant to (e.g. a single-digit seconds field when format ss was
specified), a check that the current fall-back date-time is between
the minimum and maximum for the parser object failed, triggering an
assertion.

In any case, an invalid default-value wasn't useful to the code that
parsed a single section of the date-time string, so brute-force the
current value to a valid date-time (when possible) using the usual
round-trip via milliseconds since the epoch.

Added the test-case which first revealed the problem, plus a couple
more informed by it, to exercise the same code-paths with fewer things
failing.

Giuseppe D'Angelo 2d95b75345 QByteArray: fix isUpper/isLower
577d698b8e changed QString::isUpper /
isLower behaviors to match Unicode semantics: a string is uppercase
if it's identical to its own toLower/toUpper folding. These semantics
come from Unicode so they're not up for debate.

That commit however left QByteArray untouched. Generally speaking, we
want to move away from QByteArray as "text storage" -- this has
partially happened between Qt 5 and Qt 6, where QByteArray went from
Latin-1 semantics to ASCII semantics. Still, QByteArray offers
toUpper/toLower and isUpper/isLower and all this family of functions
should be consistent in behavior.

Apply the same fix that was applied to QString.

[ChangeLog][Important Behavior Changes] The semantics of
QByteArray::isLower() and QByteArray::isUpper() have been changed. Now
lowercase (resp. uppercase) byte arrays are allowed to contain any
character; a byte array is considered lowercase (resp. uppercase) if
it's equal to its own toLower() (resp. toUpper()) folding. For instance,
the "abc123" byte array is now considered to be lowercase.
Previously, the isLower() (resp. isUpper()) functions checked whether
the byte array only contained ASCII lowercase (resp. uppercase)
characters, and was at least 1 character long. This had the side effect
that byte array containing ASCII non-letters (e.g. numbers, symbols,
etc.) were not lowercase nor uppercase.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QByteArray] QByteArray::isLower() and
QByteArray::isUpper() now work correctly with empty byte arrays. The
semantics of these functions have been changed.

Marc Mutz cce7e35253 Q(Static)ByteArrayMatcher: manage indexIn() overloads
Unlike QString and QStringView, QByteArrayView and QByteArray don't
overload well.

Solve the overload issue the usual way: by making the QByteArray one a
Q_WEAK_OVERLOAD. This is trivial for QStaticByteArrayMatcher, which
isn't exported, but require QT_REMOVED_SINCE magic for
QByteArrayMatcher, which is.

The additional const char* overload has shielded us from the worst
fall-out so far, it seems, but it makes for a truly horrible overload
set:

    matcher.indexIn(str, 3);

Q: Is the 3 here the length of the haystack or the value of the from
parameter?

A: It depends on decltype(str)!

If the (const char*, qsizetype, qsizetype=0) overload is the better
match, then 3 limits the haystack's length.

If, otoh, the (QByteArray(View), qsizetype) overload is the better
match, then it's the value of the from parameter.

As if this wasn't bad enough, QByteArray implcitly converts to const
char* by default!

A follow-up patch will therefore deprecate the (ptr, size) overloads,
so we de-inline the QByteArrayView ones to avoid having to touch the
implementation once more.

Marc Mutz 11409f4c02 QStringBuilder: handle freeSpaceAtBegin() in op+=
Amends 9b320edb53.

The above commit made the mistake of relying on the 30yr+ old
fundamental relation

    size() - capacity() == freeSpaceAtEnd()

which, however, Qt 6's prepend()-optimization (freeSpaceAtBegin())
broke. Because of that, while size() - capacity() may be large enough
to hold the new data, if freeSpaceAtBegin() > 0, then freeSpaceAtEnd()
may not.

Fix by inspecting freeSpaceAtEnd() instead of capacity(). The
following reserve() call is unaffected, since it internally already
adds freeSpaceAtBegin() to the requested size, which is why the
unconditional reserve() in 9b320edb535a0fbe118933d2e983b73f90c32685^
worked while 9b320edb535a0fbe118933d2e983b73f90c32685's capacity()

Ievgenii Meshcheriakov 4f53c703e4 QLocale: Extend support for language codes
This commit extends functionality for QLocale::codeToLanguage()
and QLocale::languageToCode() by adding an additional argument
that allows selection of the ISO 639 code-set to consider for
those operations.

The following ISO 639 codes are supported:
    * Part 1
    * Part 2 bibliographic
    * Part 2 terminological
    * Part 3

As a result of this change the codeToLanguage() overload without
the additional argument now returns a Language value if it matches
any know code. Previously a valid language was returned only if
the function argument matched the first code defined for that
language from the above list.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QLocale] Added overloads for codeToLanguage()
and languageToCode() that support specifying which ISO 639 codes
to consider.

Giuseppe D'Angelo 54536bb5ae QString::arg: deprecate use of arbitrary Unicode digits as replacements
The only documented replacements for Q*String*::arg() are sequences like
%1, %2, %3 -- where the n-th number is expressed using a sequence of
ASCII digits [1].

The code parsing the replacements however used the QChar::digitValue()
function. That function simply checks if a QChar has a *Unicode digit
value* (no matter what its block/category is), and if so, returns the
corresponding digit value as an int (otherwise returns -1).

The result of this is that a sequence like "%¹" or "%१" actually
triggered substitutions (both count as "1"). Similarly, QChars with
a digit value would be parsed as part of longer sequences like "%1²"
(counting as "12" (!)).

This behavior is weird, undocumented, and extremely likely the usual
backstabbing by Unicode by using "convenience" QChar methods -- that is,
never *intended* by the implementation.

This commit deprecates (via warnings) such usages, which for the time
being are left working as before (in the name of backwards
compatibility). At the same time: given it's extremely unlikely that
someone would be deliberately relying on this behavior, it implements
the desired change of behavior (only accept sequences of ASCII digits)
starting from Qt 6.6, that is, after the next LTS.

Throughout Qt 6's lifetime users will still be able to control arg()'s
behavior by setting an env variable, but that variable (and the support
for Unicode digits) will disappear in Qt 7.

To summarize:

* Qt 6.3->6.5: default is Unicode digits, env var to control
* Qt 6.6->6.x: default is ASCII digits, env var to control
* Qt 7: only ASCII digits, no env var

[1] That's the name Unicode gives to them, cf. https://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0000.pdf

[ChangeLog][QtCore][Deprecation Notices] The arg() functions
featured in Qt string classes have always been documented to require
replacements tokens to be sequences of ASCII digits (like %1, %2, %34,
and so on). A coding oversight made it accept sequences of arbitrary
characters with a Unicode digit value instead. For instance, "%2੩" is
interpreted as the 23rd substitution; and "%1²" is interpreted as the
12th substitution. This behavior is deprecated, and will result in
runtime warnings. Starting from Qt 6.6, arg()'s behavior will be changed
to accept only ASCII digits by default. That means that "%1²" is going
to be interpreted as substitution number 1 followed by the "²" character
(which does not get substituted, so it gets left as-is in the result).
Users can restore the previous semantics (accept Unicode digits) by
setting the QT_USE_UNICODE_DIGIT_VALUES_IN_STRING_ARG environment
variable to a non-zero value. In Qt 7, arg() will only support sequences
of ASCII digits. Note that from Qt 6.3 users can also set
QT_USE_UNICODE_DIGIT_VALUES_IN_STRING_ARG to zero; this will make arg()
use ASCII digits only, in preparation for the future change of defaults.

Given on most CI configurations we run tests only on debug builds, this
means that effectively we don't test JIT paths (JIT is kept disabled in
debug builds). To keep it enabled in a test, we have a few options:

* export a developer-build-only variable from QtCore, to force JIT
usage, and set it in the test. This is still suboptimal as many
configurations aren't using developer builds in the first place;

* use the already existing QT_REGEXP_USE_JIT environment variable,
setting it from CMake/CTest. The problem here is that although add_test
does support it, we don't expose it through our wrapper functions;

* just set that env variable from within the test itself. I went for
this option.

QLocale and QString tests had copies of a TransientLocale; we've
recently improved the QLocale one. Rather than duplicating those
rather complicated improvements, finally share a common version.

In the process, I noticed that setlocale() only returns the prior
value when passed nullptr as the new value; so rework the
implementation to get that right, so that it now correctly restores
the prior locale. That, in turn, means there's now a later call to
setlocale(), when we actually set the changed setting, which may
invalidate the earlier return; so copy it to a QByteArray before the
second call.

Included Ivan Solovev's improved version of how to reset the locale,
since TransientLocale needs it.

Edward Welbourne 4641ff0f6a Add new am/pm format-specifier that preserves locale's case
The existing a, ap, A and AP specifiers all force the case of the
formatted am/pm indicator. The indicators returned by QLocale's
amText() and pmText() methods are those given in CLDR, with no case
coercion. Application writers may reasonably want these strings used
verbatim, rather than having to chose a case and impose it on the
locale's indicators, in defiance of national custom. For example,
while en_US uses upper-case indicators by default, cs_CZ uses
lower-case ones. An application author writing a time format has been
forced to chose which of these locales to be wrong in.

Add support for aP and Ap specifiers, whose mixed case indicates that
the locale's case is to be respected. Amend an existing test-case of
tst_QLocale's formatDateTime() that used Ap (expecting, of course, an
upper-case indicator followed by a stray p) to now expect the
locale-appropriate-cased indicator. Extend formatTime() to test cases
using aP and Ap, to illustrate the difference between en_US and cs_CZ.

Rework QDateTimeParser to also support the new format specifier. This
required expanding its Case enum, used by the getAmPmText() method,
which was formerly shared with QDateTimeEditPrivate; however, as that
class no longer makes any reference to this method, it and the enum
can be made private, allowing a systematic clean-up of their use.
Added test-cases for both serialization and parsing; and amended some
existing parsing tests to verify am/pm indicators are matched
case-insensitively.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][Important Behavior Changes] Time formats used by
QLocale, QTime and QDateTime's parsing and serialization now recognize
'aP' and 'Ap' format specifiers to obtain an AM/PM indicator, using
the locale-appropriate case for the indicator, where previously the
author of a time format had to pick a case that might conflict with
the user's locale. For QTime and QDateTime the locale is always C,
whose indicators are uppercase. For QLocale, the case will now match
that of amText() or pmText(). Previously, 'aP' would have been read as
a lower-case indicator followed by a 'P' and 'Ap' as an upper-case
indicator followed by a 'p'. The 'P' or 'p' will now be treated as
part of the format specifier: if the prior behavior is desired, either
use 'APp' or 'apP' as format specifier or quote the 'p' or 'P' in the
format. The prior 'a', 'ap', 'A' and 'AP' specifiers are otherwise
unaffected.

There's no need of duplicating code all over the place; QString can
reuse the implementation of the indexOf/contains/count/lastIndexOf
family of functions already existing for QStringView.

For simplicity, the warning messages (that our autotests actually check)
have been made more generic, rather than introducing some other
parameter (as in, "which class is using this functionality so to emit
a more precise warning"), which would have just complicated things as
the implementation of these functions is exported and used by inline
QStringView member functions.

Giuseppe D'Angelo f0d1f50e02 QRegularExpression: fix matching over null/empty QString(View)
An empty QString(View) is allowed to have nullptr as its data pointer
(of course, only if its size is 0). This wasn't properly
checked in QRegularExpression, which passed such nullptr to
PCRE, and that resulted in PCRE raising an error (PCRE_ERROR_NULL).
Detect this case and pass a dummy pointer to keep PCRE happy.

Fixing and testing this in turn exposed a problem with QStringView
support in QRegularExpression when used over a null QString: the
code is supposed to use the QStringView(QString) constructor and NOT
qToStringViewIgnoringNull. That's because QRE distinguishes null
and empty subjects; when using qToStringViewIgnoringNull over
a null QString, one gets a non-null QStringView (!). Again, this in
turn exposed a problem with a QRegularExpression autotest that assumed
that a null match could only mean "no match" (instead, it can happen at
position 0 of a null QString(View)).

Giuseppe D'Angelo 6cee204d56 QS(V)/QBA(V)/QL1S::lastIndexOf: fix the offset calculations
When trying to fix 0-length matches at the end of a QString,
be83ff65c4 actually introduced a
regression due to how lastIndexOf interprets its `from` parameter.

The "established" (=legacy) interpretation of a negative `from` is that
it is supposed to indicate that we want the last match at offset `from +
size()`. With the default from of -1, that means we want a match
starting at most at position `size() - 1` inclusive, i.e. *at* the last
position in the string. The aforementioned commit changed that, by
allowing a match at position `size()` instead, and this behavioral
change broke code.

The problem the commit tried to fix was that empty matches *are* allowed
to happen at position size(): the last match of regexp // inside the
string "test" is indeed at position 4 (the regexp matches 5 times).

Changing the meaning of negative from to include that last position (in
general: to include position `from+size()+1` as the last valid matching
position, in case of a negative `from`) has unfortunately broken client
code. Therefore, we need to revert it. This patch does that, adapting
the tests as necessary (drive-by: a broken #undef is removed).

Reverting the patch however is not sufficient. What we are facing here
is an historical API mistake that forces the default `from` (-1) to
*skip* the truly last possible match; the mistake is that thre is simply
no way to pass a negative `from` and obtain that match. This means that
the revert will now cause code like this:

  str.lastIndexOf(QRE("")); // `from` defaulted to -1

NOT to return str.size(), which is counter-intuitive and wrong. Other
APIs expose this inconsistency: for instance, using
QRegularExpressionIterator would actually yield a last match at position
str.size(). Similarly, using QString::count would return `str.size()+1`.
Note that, in general, it's still possible for clients to call

  str.lastIndexOf(~~~, str.size())

to get the "truly last" match.

This patch also tries to fix this case ("have our cake and eat it").

First and foremost, a couple of bugs in QByteArray and QString code are
fixed (when dealing with 0-length needles).

Second, a lastIndexOf overload is added. One overload is the "legacy"
one, that will honor the pre-existing semantics of negative `from`. The
new overload does NOT take a `from` parameter at all, and will actually
match from the truly end (by simply calling `lastIndexOf(~~~, size())`
internally).

These overloads are offered for all the existing lastIndexOf()
overloads, not only the ones taking QRE.

This means that code simply using `lastIndexOf` without any `from`
parameter get the "correct" behavior for 0-length matches, and code that
specifies one gets the legacy behavior. Matches of length > 0 are not
affected anyways, as they can't match at position size().

[ChangeLog][Important Behavior Changes] A regression in the behavior of
the lastIndexOf() function on text-related containers and views
(QString, QStringView, QByteArray, QByteArrayView, QLatin1String) has
been fixed, and the behavior made consistent and more in line with
user expectations. When lastIndexOf() is invoked with a negative `from`
position, the last match has now to start at the last character in the
container/view (before, it was at the position *past* the last
character). This makes a difference when using lastIndexOf() with a
needle that has 0 length (for instance an empty string, a regular
expression that can match 0 characters, and so on); any other case is
unaffected. To retrieve the "truly last" match, one can pass a
positive `from` offset to lastIndexOf() (basically, pass `size()` as the
`from` parameter). To make calls such as `text.lastIndexOf(~~~);`, that
do not pass any `from` parameter, behave properly, a new lastIndexOf()
overload has been added to all the text containers/views. This overload
does not take a `from` parameter at all, and will search starting from
one character past the end of the text, therefore returning a correct
result when used with needles that may yield 0-length matches. Client
code may need to be recompiled in order to use this new overload.
Conversely, client code that needs to skip the "truly last" match now
needs to pass -1 as the `from` parameter instead of relying on the
default.

Tor Arne Vestbø bef57b317f testlib: Deprecate QWARN() in favor of qWarning()
The QtTest best practices documentations recommends using output
mechanisms such as qDebug() and qWarning() for diagnostic messages,
and this is also what most of our own tests do.

The QWARN() macro and corresponding internal QTest::qWarn() function
was added when QtTest was first implemented, but was likely meant as
an internal implementation detail, like its cousin QTestLog::info(),
which does not have any corresponding macro.

This theory is backed by our own QtTest self-test (tst_silent)
describing the output from QWARN() as "an internal testlib warning".

The only difference between QWARN() and qWarning(), besides the much
richer feature set of the latter, is that qWarning() will not pass
on file and line number information in release mode, but QWARN() will.
This is an acceptable loss of functionality, considering that the user
can override this behavior by defining QT_MESSAGELOGCONTEXT.

[ChangeLog][QtTest] QWARN() has been deprecated in favor of qWarning()

Ivan Solovev e150bcfe4d QByteArray: fix indexOf/lastIndexOf
This patch fixed two bugs in indexOf/lastIndexOf:
1. The lastIndexOf(char, qsizetype) overload was crashing with an empty
   QByteArray. It was unconditionally calling lastIndexOfCharHelper()
   which assumes that this QBA is not empty. An explicit check for
   the empty case is added.
2. The indexOf(QByteArray, qsizetype) overload was behaving incorrectly
   while searching for an empty QByteArray. In this case it
   unconditionally returned its second parameter (from). However, from
   can be negative, or even exceed the size of this QByteArray. This
   patch handles this cases properly.

As a drive-by: this patch adjusts the QByteArray::indexOf(char, qsizetype)
and QByteArray::lastIndexOf(char, qsizetype) overloads to match with the
QByteArrayView implementation. This is done to have similar code paths
in both cases and avoid tricky bugs in future.
Ideally we had to adjust the QByteArrayView implementation, but it's
fully inline, so can't be changed without breaking BC.

Edward Welbourne cc64959602 Tidy up tst_QString::localeAwareCompare()
It was suppressed unconditionally (albeit in different places and with
different levels of obviousness) almost everywhere, due to inability
to set the system locale in use by the implementation. Several
test-cases used ISO-8859-1 encoding on Q_OS_MAC, where the tests were
all suppressed anyway. A block of no_NO tests was #if 0'd out; and
should, in any case, have been nb_NO. Tests of any locale but en_US
were skipped on Q_OS_WIN because we can't set the locale (but
including the tests of en_US tacitly assumed that's the system
locale). If setlocale() failed, for ICU or DARWIN, the test was
skipped; but we might as well check for this in the _data() to save
repetition.

The test was laboriously going through the sign cases; relocate the
QString::compare() test's sign() function so that we can use it here,
too, and simply QCOMPARE() signs. Introduce a TransientLocale class,
copied from tst_QLocale, to take care of setting and restoring the
locale using setlocale(). Change the locale name to a QByteArray so
that we save having to convert it to one in order to pass it to
setlocale(). Since that changed every _data() row, reformat those rows
in the process - most of them were long lines.

On the systems where we can't set the locale used by the function
being tested, condition each block of tests in the _data() on whether
LC_COLLATE looks like the locale to be tested, and report how a
determined developer at least can (by repeatedly running the test with
different locales set) test all the cases; and we'll attempt the ones
that we can, when one of the relevant locales is in use. If that
leaves us with no tests we can do, QSKIP() in the _data() to avoid an
assert failure for "Test data requested, but no testdata available."

Giuseppe D'Angelo a794c5e287 Unicode: fix the extended grapheme cluster algorithm
UAX #29 in Unicode 11 changed the EGC algorithm to its current form.
Although Qt has upgraded the Unicode tables all the way up to
Unicode 13, the algorithm has never been adapted; in other words,
it has been working by chance for years. Luckily, MOST
of the cases were dealt with correctly, but emoji handling
actually manages to break it.

This commit:

* Adds parsing of emoji-data.txt into the unicode table generator.
  That is necessary to extract the Extended_Pictographic property,
  which is used by the EGC algorithm.

* Regenerates the tables.

* Removes some obsoleted grapheme cluster break properties, and
  adds the ones added in the meanwhile.

* Rewrites the EGC algorithm according to Unicode 13. This is
  done by simplifying a lot the lookup table. Some rules (GB11,
  GB12, GB13) can't be done by the table alone so some hand-rolled
  code is necessary in that case.

* Thanks to these fixes, the complete upstream GraphemeBreakTest
  now passes. Remove the "edited" version that ignored some rows
  (because they were failing).

JiDe Zhang 50a7eb8cf7 Add the "Territory" enumerated type for QLocale
The use of "Country" is misleading as some entries in the enumeration
are not countries (eg, HongKong), for all that most are. The Unicode
Consortium's Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR, from which QLocale's
data is taken) calls these territories, so introduce territory-based
names and prepare to deprecate the country-based ones in due course.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QLocale] QLocale now has Territory as an alias for
its Country enumeration, and associated territory-based names to match
its country-named methods, to better match the usage in relevant
standards. The country-based names shall in due course be deprecated
in favor of the territory-based names.

Tor Arne Vestbø d8158c6c93 macOS: Be honest about the system locale
The system locale of a macOS application is not affected by environment
variables like LANG. Yet, we were reporting a name determined from
environment variables as the fallbackUiLocale(), rather than one based
on the language and country of the actual system locale.

This lead, via the usual CLDR likely-subtag fallback, to claiming the
system locale's name, language, script and country were those obtained
from these environment variables, even when they were at odds with the
actual locale being used by the system, which was being used for some
queries.

Worse yet, any data not supplied by these queries was being obtained
from the same CLDR locale as the name, making for an inconsistent mix
of locale data.

While we cannot avoid the likely-subtag fallback step for fallback
data, it is more consistent to use the actual system locale's name
as start-point for that fallback.

At the same time, add support for the language, script and country
queries, so that the QLocale::system() describes itself faithfully,
instead of claiming to be the locale that results from that fallback.

If we want to support LANG or other environment variable overrides,
they should be handled by the layer above the system locale, by
changing the default locale of the Qt application, as if the user
had called QLocale::setDefault().

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QLocale] QLocale::system() on macOS no longer
pretends to support LANG or other environment variables as overrides,
as this is not a feature that the system locale on macOS supports.
To override the locale of an application, use QLocale::setDefault(),
or pass -AppleLocale en_US.
