Giuseppe D'Angelo 34fe9232db Port from QAtomic::load() to loadRelaxed()
Semi-automated, just needed ~20 manual fixes:

It can be easily improved (e.g. for store check that there are no commas
after the opening parens). The most common offender is QLibrary::load,
and some code using std::atomic directly.

Morten Johan Sørvig 0b693175e4 wasm: make idealThreadCount() work on all threads
navigator.hardwareConcurrency can be accessed from
the main thread only. Read and cache the value on
QCoreApplication initialization.

Allan Sandfeld Jensen 7d02fb3045 Fix recursive include
qatomic.h included qbasicatomic.h which included qatomic.h.

Due to a define in qbasicatomic.h, the definitions from QAtomic would
change depending on which was included first. Fortunately qbasicatomic
does not need qatomic.h so the include can be removed.

Morten Johan Sørvig 6faa4d4a87 QFuture: Wait for result on iterator advance
Wait for the result at the target index if the future
is running and the iterator index is past the current
result count.

Determine if there is a result at the target index
after waitForResult() returns, and return -1/end if
not.

Also support decrementing the end iterator. In this
case wait for the future to finish in order to get
the final result count.

Giuseppe D'Angelo 620f121206 QAtomic: introduce loadRelaxed() / storeRelaxed()
Plain load() / store() have already relaxed semantics. This
can be surprising -- std::atomic::load()/store() are actually
sequentially consistent -- and introduce a pain point
if someone wants to move from Qt atomics to std:: atomics.

So just add a suffix to the functions to clarify what's the
memory ordering involved with them.

The Ops::load / ::store are temporarily left in, because other
modules depends on them. We need to port those modules away,
then they can go (it's private API anyhow).

Similarly, not deprecating anything yet, except for marking
obsolete in the docs; there's a lot of code around using
load() / store() that needs to be ported first.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QAtomicInteger] Added loadRelaxed() and
storeRelaxed(), to be used as replacements of load() / store().

Morten Johan Sørvig b611eb81c8 Fix QDeadlineTimer::Forever case in QWaitCondition
The timeout will never be larger than numeric_limits<quint64>::max(),
especially on platforms with 32-bit longs.

Instead, test if the timeout is exactly numeric_limits<unsigned long>::max(),
which matches the ULONG_MAX value which is documented
to indicate no timeout.

Avoid having the reset in waitForDone interfere with other uses of the
thread-pool by locking the mutex higher, and maintaining the state
so the queues doesn't have threads not in allThreads.

Martin Smith 81d8319276 doc: Fix all clang parse errors in QtBase during PCH build
This update eliminates ALL parsing errors when clang parses the
Qt headers to build the precompiled header qdoc needs. These errors
are often cases where an old use of Q_QDOC no longer works because
clang sees the enclosed fake declarations as erroneous.

In a few cases, clang reported errors because two dummy function
declartations under the Q_CLANG_QDOC guard were indistinguishable,
so one of them was removed, and the documentation was patched
accordingly.

Using the macro Q_DECLARE_INTERFACE(...) causes clang to report errors
because the class parametewr is abstract. These uses of the macro are
not needed, so they are removed with #ifndef Q_CLANG_QDOC.

Some declarations of default GL types that had been provided for qdoc
were no longer needed, so they are removed.

Now there are some member function signatures in QDBusPendingReply
and QDBusPendingCall that have very long template clauses and qualifiers
in their signatures. These unwieldy signatures will be unnecessary in the
documentation and will look bad there, but for now they are correct. The
ultimate solution will be to add a metacommand to qdoc, something like
\simplify-signature to tell qdoc to generate the documentation for these
member functions without the long template caluses and qualifiers.

Oliver Wolff aa0e3d02d5 winrt: Use SwitchToThread instead of Sleep(0)
UWP also supports SwitchToThread. The usage of Sleep(0) was a leftover
that was forgotten when porting to desktop Window's approach of handling
threads.

Oliver Wolff 29208fa07c winrt: Explicitly set main thread in QCoreApplication's constructor
For winrt we cannot rely on the fact, that QThread::current will be called
from the correct thread for the first time. The application's main entry
point creates a suspended thread and starts it right afterwards. At that
moment, other functionality (QLoggingRegistry for example) might have
called QThread::current, which set the wrong thread as the main thread. In
order to avoid this situation, the main thread is explicitly set in
QCoreApplication's constructor.

Thiago Macieira e3e28915c3 Fix erroneous use of errno with qErrnoWarning
On Windows, the error code to be used with qErrnoWarning is not errno,
but Windows's GetLastError(). Obviously, right?

So don't pass errno to it, just let it get the error message straight
from qt_error_string(), which will use GetLastError().

Ulf Hermann 0a06e1baf9 Modernize the "thread" feature
Add it to configure.json and replace all occurrences of QT_NO_THREAD
with QT_CONFIG(thread). Add conditions for other features that depend
on thread support. Remove conditions where we can use the QMutex and
QThreadStorage stubs.

Morten Johan Sørvig 815153d4a4 Add QThreadStorage stub implementation
Add implementation for the no-thread configuration:
Assume access will only happen from one thread and
use a QScopedPointer to hold the data.

Unlike the real implementation this version will
delete the stored data on destruction, as opposed
to on QApplication destruction.

Thiago Macieira 56d52e1f1a QThread: Centralize the creation of the event dispatcher
In some places we call startingUp(), in others we don't. It's probably
ok for those that have just created an object of a given class, which
knows whether the virtual call is necessary or not. But for the generic
case, we do call it.

Ulf Hermann 99d4f0026f Make the stub implementation of QThread compile again
We cannot inline methods of QThreadPrivate because QThreadData has to
be declared before. The global QThreadData needs to be accessible to
QThreadData::clearCurrentThreadData(), and QAdoptedThread::run() has to
be moved inside the #ifndef QT_NO_THREAD block as run() doesn't exist
in the stub and Q_DECL_OVERRIDE would be wrong.

We also fix the QThreadData::current() method to take and use the same
parameters as in the non-stub case.

This reverts commit 90493e16b8.
The change broke static builds with MSVC.

[ChangeLog][Visual Studio] Reverted a change that caused static
binaries compiled with Visual Studio 2015 to crash on start-up. Note
that this does not apply to Visual Studio 2017 static binaries, even
though the crash stack traces are very similar: with 2017, the problem
is compiler regression and requires updating to version 15.8 for the
fix.

Thiago Macieira a9d903d18f QSemaphore: Fix 64-bit Linux QSemaphores initialized to non-zero
The original design for the 64-bit futex had the token count replicated
in the high part. But the constructor wasn't setting it. This is one of
the issues I had noticed when investigating QTBUG-66875, but didn't need
to address since the the fix I ended up applying in commit
081c001deb made that unnecessary: the high
part only had the number of waiters.

Unfortunately, when commit f502270c0f06daba75c1da381bd1658d81aa7bba
brought back the token count in the high part, I failed to correct that
problem. As a consequence, every QSemaphore that was initialized in the
constructor to a non-zero value would eventually deadlock.

This commit fixes that oversight.

Thiago Macieira 72f8f994b2 QSemaphore: attempt to fix again the 64-bit Linux semaphore
This time, the issue was that we could race a wait and a wake. A multi-
token waiter would not notice that the number of tokens changed because
it only performed a fetch-and-OR, then waited on the high part which did
not change. That means the futex_wait() would succeed, when we wanted it
to have failed.

So we have to bring back a portion of what commit
081c001deb removed: we need to keep both
the token count and the waiter count in the high word.

Thiago Macieira 081c001deb QSemaphore: fix deadlock when the woken up thread wakes up another
When the thread that got woken up by release() is supposed to release()
to wake up another thread, we were deadlocking. This happened because we
cleared the bit indicating that there was contention when the first
release(). Instead of storing a single bit, we now store the number of
threads waiting.

Martin Storsjö 5eaecaa966 Undef interface in more places, fixing builds with libc++ on windows
After including windows.h, interface is a define that expands to
"struct" (unless WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN is defined). This name is
used as a normal identifier in multiple places within Qt.

This has already been worked around in a number of places
(in e.g. 3ba61d9baa and
786d23bb49).

After qrandom.h was included in <QtCore/QtCore>, this header
implicitly includes <random>. In libc++ on windows, this header
then transitively includes windows.h, exposing the clash with
the name "interface" in even more locations than before.

For cases within qtbase internals, it could also alternatively be
handled by defining WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN while building QtDbus, but
for occurrences in public headers, the undef trick needs to be
used.

Martin Smith 329e09a3c3 doc: Add missing template text to \fn commands
This update corrects about 200 qdoc warnings caused by incomplete
\fn commands for member functions of template classes. It can be
used as an example of how to fix \fn commands that suddenly cause
qdoc warnings now that qdoc uses clang to parse the \fn commands.

For example, with the old qdoc, we had this \fn command, which the
old qdoc handled correctly:

\fn QAtomicInteger::operator T() const

For the new clang-based qdoc, this \fn command must be written this way:

\fn template <typename T> QAtomicInteger<T>::operator T() const

However, the documentation generated by the clang-based qdoc looks the
same as it did in the old qdoc.

Marc Mutz a0faf9e236 Optimize QThread::isInterruptionRequested()
To signal a thread to cancel, nothing more than a std::atomic_flag is
needed, but the implementation actually used mutexes, and weird
run-state introspection, so we can't just swap it out for a
std::atomic_flag.

Instead, we retain the principal logic, however weird it is, and just
optimize the common case where isInterruptionRequested() is called
from the secondary thread, repeatedly. We add a fast-path that just
checks that d->interruptionRequested is not set. That requires nothing
more than a relaxed atomic load, because there's no new value read
that could be used as a signal to the secondary thread that some
condition changed.

"What signal?", you may ask. Well, one can think of users doing this:

  void cancel() {
      m_why = tr("&Canceled");
      requestIterruption();
  }

  void run() override {
      while (!isInterruptionRequested()) {
          doWork();
      }
      emit progress(100, 100, m_why);
  }

We need to keep this code working, at least until Qt 6.

But the code can already now only rely on synchronization if
isInterruptionRequested() returns true. If it returns false, then
requestInterruption() has not been called, yet, and any modifications
done prior to the requestInterruption() call are not visible in the
secondary thead.

So we still lock the mutex, and in general don't change the semantics
of the functions, except that we don't lock the mutex in the case
where the flag wasn't set in the first place.

This makes calling isInterruptionRequested() as cheap as it can get,
assuming a lock-free implementation, of course.

I opted to use a std::atomic<bool> instead of QAtomicInt, as the
latter does not have loadRelaxed()/storeRelaxed(), and because it
future-proofs the code.

Marc Mutz 7967c40303 QThread::requestInterruption(): move qWarning() out of critical section
We do not touch anything mutex-protected in the path towards the qWarning(), so
the mutex lock is not needed. It may actually be harmful, since a message handler
may check isInterruptionRequested(), which would then deadlock.

Otherwise, we're just decreasing the size of the critical section — always a
worthwhile goal.

Thiago Macieira 4870282117 QSemaphore: fix regression when the timeout < 0
The issue was introduced by eaee1209f0, so
it affected only 5.9.2.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QSemaphore] Fixed a regression that would make
tryAcquire() not to wait forever if the timeout was a negative
value. Note: new code is advised to only use -1 to indicate "forever",
as some other functions taking timeout periods do not accept other
values.

Thiago Macieira 1a05a71493 Fix QBasicMutex default constructor not constexpr
Commit 02dc39fa8e added the constructor
for the bootstrapped mode. For the regular mode, we hadn't needed, since
the {} syntax guaranteed initialization for us.

Turns out there's at least one compiler that doesn't think it was enough
(GCC for QNX 7).

Jake Petroules cd542a82b0 Remove references to obsolete platforms
ultrix and reliant have not seen a release since 1995. dgux not since
2001. bsdi not since 2003. irix not since 2006. osf not since 2010.
dynix... unclear, but no later than 2002. symbian needs no mention.
All considered obsolete, all gone.

sco and unixware are effectively obsolete. Remove them until someone
expresses a real need.

We don't actually need it in that case, but as the code that uses it is
disabled by a constant expression we cannot disable the variable itself
by a macro. The static_cast makes sure the compiler does not complain
about implicitly casting a 64bit value to a 32bit one.

Thiago Macieira cf22203855 Add a comment about the weird refcount for adopted QThreadData
It's perfectly benign, but I spent a lot of time debugging this and
trying to figure out how to solve something that didn't need solving. So
document for posterity.

For an adopted thread, the TLS destructors or the adopted thread watcher
on Windows will call QThreadData::deref():

- QThreadData::deref(), count drops to zero
   -> delete this;
- ~QThreadData() deletes the QAdoptedThread
   -> delete t;
- ~QThreadPrivate() calls deref() again
   -> data->deref();
- QThreadData::deref(), count drops to -1, no action taken
- ~QObjectPrivate() calls deref() yet again
   -> threadData->deref()
- QThreadData::deref(), count drops to -2, no action taken

Thiago Macieira 895cb4681e QSemaphore: Improve waking up on 64-bit Linux
By judiciously positioning of the bits, we can optimize for the case of
threads trying to acquire a single token, which is what QSemaphore
should be mostly used for, as it matches the POSIX Semaphore API
(sem_wait, sem_timedwait and sem_trywait). If there are only waiters
waiting for a single token, we know that adding n tokens means n threads
can wake up.

This optimizes for multi-token waiters too. For example, if we have 50
single-token waiters and 50 multi-token waiters, a sem.release(5) will
wake up 55 threads instead of 100.

<future> is needed by QThread::create. Instead of a fragile series
of preprocessor tests, move its detection to a configure test.
This dramatically simplifies the code, but on the other hand ties
the availability of QThread::create() to the system used to compile
Qt (rather the one used to compile an application).

Svenn-Arne Dragly ba423261cd Improve performance in QThreadPool
When many runnables are executed, this improves the
performance by not resizing the queue for each runnable,
which was the case in the previous version, because of
many calls to QVector::takeFirst().

Also add a test that makes sure tryTake() is safe to
call and does not leave the queue in a bad state that
tries to use nullptr entries.

Giuseppe D'Angelo 0d0ad598c5 QThread::create: move implementation out of line
Now that we accept STL datatypes in our ABI, expose a factory
function that takes a std::future<void>, and hide the QThread
subclass in our implementation. This also solves the problem
of a non-exported polymorphic class that would generate duplicate
vtables / typeinfo in all TUs.

Giuseppe D'Angelo 59937de098 Annotate the futex implementation for TSAN
TSAN does not understand the futex system call.

Now, in QMutex and QSemaphore usage, futex is always wrapped by
atomic operations that always do an acquire (before waiting) and
a release (before waking waiters). That alone realizes a
synchronizes-with, and since Qt uses std::atomics, TSAN knows
what's going on and does not complain.

But what if one uses futex directly, or we change the
algorithms, or introduce some other new synchronization
primitive somewhere?  Luckily TSAN offers annotations for this
that we can use.

This patch annotates the main entry point for the futex syscall
with a pair of acquire/release semantics. A futex call
guarantees total ordering on the operations on the futex
word(s), whether the call succeeds or fails.

Edward Welbourne d3e73b4f6b Fix typo in QMutex's free-list's Sizes[3]
A QFreeList's MaxIndex is clearly meant to be the sum of its Sizes;
but the parentheses in MaxIndex - (16 - 128 - 1024) doesn't give the
same as without the parentheses.  Noticed while reviewing a copy of

Giuseppe D'Angelo 5677b70eee QThread: terminate on exceptions leaving run()
Align ourselves to the Standard Library and call std::terminate if an
exception leaves the thread entry point (that is, run()).

On platforms using pthreads, thread cancellation needs to be taken in
special consideration, since it looks like it was supported before.

On Glibc, and when using C++, pthread_cancel and pthread_exit are
implemented by throwing a special kind of exception that can be caught,
but must always be rethrown. That exception is then used to activate the
cancellation clean-up handlers. (This is non-Standard C++ behavior.)

So: mimic what libstdc++'s std::thread does to support Glibc's pthread
cancellation.

At this time, it looks like libc++ has no support for this, and when
used in combination with Glibc a thread cancellation results in a crash
(also because it does not seem to terminate() when exceptions leave the
thread).

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QThread] An exception escaping from QThread::run()
will now result in immediate and abnormal program termination. The same

Giuseppe D'Angelo 597d4ff796 QThread: add static create function
In the spirit of std::thread, which takes a function to call and its
parameters, and runs it in a new thread. Since the user might want to
connect to signals, move QObjects into the new thread, etc., the new
thread is not immediately started.

Although technically all of this _should_ be implementable in pure
C++11, there is nothing in the Standard to help us not reinvent all the
plumbing: packing the decay'd parameters, storing them, invoking the
function over the parameters (honoring INVOKE/std::invoke semantics).
std::function does not do the job, as it's copiable and therefore does
not support move-only functors; std::bind does not have INVOKE
semantics.

I certainly do not want to reimplement all the required facilities
inside of Qt. Therefore, the full blown implementation requires C++17
(std::invoke).

In order to make this useful also in pre-C++17, there are two additional
implementations (C++11 and C++14) that support just a callable, without
any arguments passed to it. The C++11 implementation makes use of a
class to store and call the callable (even move-only ones); basically,
it's what a closure type for a C++14 lambda would look like.

An alternative implementation could've used some of the existing
facilities inside QObject::connect implementation that store a functor
(for the connect() overload connecting to free functions), namely:
the QtPrivate::QFunctorSlotObject class. However:

* QFunctorSlotObject does not support move-only callables (see
QTBUG-60339);
* QFunctorSlotObject itself is not a callable (apparently by design),
and requires to be wrapped in a lambda that calls call() on it;
* the moment QTBUG-60339 is solved, we'd need the same handwritten
closure to keep QFunctorSlotObject working with move-only callabes.

So: just use the handwritten one.

The C++14 implementation is a simplified version of the C++11 one,
actually using a generalized lambda capture (corresponding to the
handwritten C++11 closure type).

All three implementations use std::async (with a deferred launch policy,
a nice use case for it!) under the hood. It's certainly an overkill for
our use case, as we don't need the std::future, but at least std::async
does all the plumbing for us.

Olivier Goffart 6797570a59 Fix UB in QFutureInterface: invalid casts from ResultStoreBase to ResultStore<>
ResultStore never actually exists, only ResutStoreBase does. So casting to
ResultStore<T> and calling its  member functions is UB. Put the type dependent
function as template member functions within ResultStoreBase and so we don't
need QtPrivate::ResultStore anymore.
Same goes for the iterator.

Marc Mutz 494ee2aa8d QThreadPool: supersede cancel() with tryTake()
The cancel() function added in 5b11e43e for Qt 5.5 suffers from a
number of problems:

First, if runnable->autoDelete() is true, then the function suffers
from the ABA problem (see documentation written for trytake()).

Second, if runnable->autoDelete() is false, due to cancel() throwing
away crucial information instead of returning it, the caller cannot
know whether the runnable was canceled (and thus has to be deleted),
wasn't found or is currently executing (and thus mustn't be deleted),
or has finished executing (and can be used to extract the result).

Deprecate this dangerous API and replace it with the much more useful
Private::stealRunnable(), promoted to public API and renamed to
tryTake() for consistency with the rest of Qt.

Described the various caveats in the function's documentation.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QThreadPool] The cancel() function suffers from
several subtle issues and has been replaced with a new tryTake()
function.

Olivier Goffart 8d6d68d3d3 QReadWriteLocker: Fix race in unlock
An Acquire barrier in QReadWriteLocker::unlock was missing to synchronize
with the testAndSetOrdered on d_ptr in the lock functions.

The race is between the write of d->writerCount in tryLockForWrite,
and the read in unlock. The acquire on d->mutex is not enough because
it is not on the same object. While that race could be fixed by taking
the newly-allocate()ed d's mutex before publishing it with testAndSet,
there's another race, on 'recursive', between a newly-minted Private*
with recursive == false in tryLockForWrite(), and the read of 'recursive'
in unlock().

Marc Mutz a85b4d79db QThreadPool: replace a QSet with a QList
QThreadPool maintains three containers of QThreadPoolThread*:

- allThreads, a QSet
- waitingThreads, a QQueue
- expiredThreads, also a QQueue

None of the operations on allThreads make use of QSets fast lookup.
The only functions called on it are isEmpty(), count(), insert(),
and swap().

Since therefore QSet adds nothing but overhead, causes indeterminism
(e.g. when deleting threads in Private::reset()) and code bloat, use
the same container for allThreads that underlies QQueue: QList.

Port insert() to append(). Add an assert to verify that we're not
running into an ABA problem here (but this should never fire, since
we're never deleting threads except in Private::reset(), where we
do remove them from allThreads), just in case.

Saves ~0.5KiB in text size on optimized Linux AMD64 GCC 7.0 builds.

Marc Mutz d6c8fab880 QMutex: make sure we try_lock_for no shorter than the duration passed
By templating on the <chrono> types and unconditionally using
duration_cast to coerce the duration into a milliseconds, we
allowed code such as

   mutex.try_lock_for(10us)

to compile, which is misleading, since it's actually a zero-
timeout try_lock().

Feedback from the std-discussions mailing list is that the
wait_for functions should wait for _at least_ the duration
given, because that is the natural direction of variance
(tasks becoming ready to run might not get a CPU immediately,
causing delays), while an interface that documents to wait
_no more_ than the given duration is promising something it
cannot fulfill.

Fix by converting the given duration to the smallest number
of milliseconds not less than the original duration. If that
is not representable in an int, use INT_MAX, emulating the
effect of a spurious wakeup, which are allowed to happen if
the function returns false in that case.

In the above example, the try_lock_for call is now equivalent
to

  mutex.tryLock(1);

The tryLock() docs state that the actual waiting time does
not exceed the given milliseconds, but fixing that is a
separate issue.

Marc Mutz 3691f7ca0c QFutureInterface: make accesses to 'state' thread-safe
Introduce helper functions switch_{on,off,from_to} to make
the code more readable, and prepare everything for later
optimizations reducing the sizes of critical sections (by
locking the mutex later, or even never).

This commit, however, is only concerned with shutting up
tsan.

In waitForResult(), simplified the code by removing an
unneeded if guard: the condition is checked in the while
loop immediately following in the then-block, and the
local variable declaration that precedes the loop is not
worth guarding.

Kai Koehne ed7f77071d Replace custom type traits with std one's
Remove most type traits from qtypetraits.h, but keep the custom
implementation of is_signed/is_unsigned. This gets rid of
BSD-3 licensed code from Google in a public header (hugh!).

The custom implementations for is_signed/is_unsigned are kept
because the implementations in gcc's standard headers do not
work as we expect for enums - both is_signed and is_unsigned

Marc Mutz 46078f3374 QOrderedMutexLocker: unlock in reverse order of locking
This is an improvement for the following reasons:

- Should mutex locking allocate any kind of resource,
  unlocking in reverse order will free those resources
  in inverse order, which helps typical allocators.
- If the lock pair is contended, by unlocking in the
  same order as locking, we were allowing the waiting
  thread to wake up to take the first lock just to
  find that the second lock is still held by someone
  else.

The order of unlocking has no influence on the correct-
ness of the algorithm.

Marc Mutz ed5d04fcfc QOrderedMutexLocker: fix UB (pointer comparison with <) in static relock()
Comparing pointers that do not point into the same array using
operator< is UB. You need to use std::less<>.

The QOrderedMutexLocker ctor already used std::less to compare
pointers, but the static relock() function was not fixed.

DirectWrite: Fix advances being scaled to 0

Since 131eee5cd, the stretch of a font can be 0, meaning
"whatever the font provides". In combination with ec7fee96,
this would cause advances in the DirectWrite engine to be scaled to
0, causing the QRawFont test to fail.

Raphael Kubo da Costa 680ec54a76 QMutex: Make freelist() return a real global static
Since Qt 5.6.0, some applications such as Kate (built with clang, libc++
and libcxxrt) on FreeBSD occasionally crash with the following error
message on exit:

    QMutex::lock(): sem_wait failure: Invalid argument
    [or pthread_cond_wait in the 5.6 branch]

Investigation by Gleb Popov, Thiago Macieira and Olivier Goffart has
shown that this is caused by the fact that QDBusConnectionManager is a
Q_GLOBAL_STATIC (so it will be destroyed with all the other
Q_GLOBAL_STATICs in the reverse order of construction). In the
Q_COMPILER_THREADSAFE_STATICS case, freelist() also returns a
function-level static that is constructed on first use, so it may be
destroyed earlier than the QDBusConnectionManager object, making it
impossible to lock a contended mutex.

We now make freelist() return a global static, so that it is always
destroyed after QDBusConnectionManager and other function-static
variables.

Christian Strømme 5e3f770ad5 Fix problem with exception reporting in QFuture::waitForResult()
This fixes a problem that occurs when a task, that is run synchronously,
throws an exception. If that happened, then the exception would not be
re-thrown, because of an early return.

Marc Mutz 9c016cefe9 QFuture(Interface): remove unneeded special member functions
The compiler-generated ones are just fine.

This is BC because the class is not exported and
QFutureInterfaceBase (needlessly) contains virtual
functions (the dtor), so this class will never be
trivially copyable. It's also not movable, until I
figure out how to add move special member functions
to QFutureInterfaceBase.

Also made the QFutureInterface(State) constructor
explicit, because a State is not a faithful
representation of a QFutureInterface.

Giuseppe D'Angelo a594f85d54 Q(Basic)Mutex: add try_lock{,_for,_until} for STL compatibility
Now QBasicMutex is Lockable and QMutex is TimedLockable, which means they can
be used in std::lock_guard, std::unique_lock, std::lock, etc.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QMutex] QMutex now fully models the TimedLockable
concept by providing the try_lock, try_lock_for and try_lock_until
functions, therefore making it usable in Standard Library lock
management classes and functions.

Giuseppe D'Angelo c8277b6e53 QThread: make it fatal to destroy a running QThread
Align ourselves to what std::thread does (and what's sensible to do anyhow,
since we even document that "Deleting a running QThread [...] will probably
result in a program crash").

now result in immediate and abnormal program termination.

James McDonnell e969e6d2ca Fix cast warnings when pthread_t is smaller than a pointer
Push conversions from pthread_t to Qt::HANDLE and back into functions.
The casts that were being used didn't work for the unusual 64-bit
pointer/32-bit int combination that QNX is using for 7.0.  HANDLE ends
up as a 64-bit pointer and pthread_t ends up as a 32-bit integer.  g++
considers the precision loss when converting from the 64-bit pointer
to the 32-bit integer an error.  Better to have the casts hidden in
functions so it's easier to adjust them for unusual combinations such
as this.

Thiago Macieira 3ec57107ce Windows: stop using _beginthreadex on regular builds
This commit also reverts fecaa6aae8.

The Microsoft documentation says _beginthreadex and _endthreadex are
used to initialize the C/C++ runtime and are necessary when linking to
libcmt(d).lib (that is, when using the -MT or -MTd options). For regular
builds linking against the .dll runtime, there should be no impact.
Inspection of the CRT source code which gets installed with Visual
Studio or Windows SDK proves that.

It's preferable to use CreateThread directly as _endthreadex will try to
call FreeLibraryAndExitThread, which can cause a deadlock if we try to
wait for the thread to exit from a global destructor.

For -MT builds, since there can be no DLLs, it's not a problem to
continue to use _beginthreadex and follow Microsoft's recommendation.

Thiago Macieira 5fe16358bb Fix use of QMutex on Linux before FUTEX_PRIVATE_FLAG was added
It was added in 2.6.22. If we pass it to 2.6.21, we'll get -ENOSYS,
which is bad for QMutex. This fix simply defines it to 0 if the header
doesn't define it.

But as a consequence: if Qt is built with newer kernel headers, it won't
run on older versions. It's not likely that someone is still using Qt
5.7 on a 2.6.21 kernel (v2.6.21.7 was released on 2007-08-04).

Thiago Macieira b084739b89 Revert "QMutexPool: avoid QVarLengthArray of QAtomicPointers"
This reverts commit 4579d966af.

This causes a miscompilation with ICC 16 on Windows (MSVC 2015 ABI): the
vector created by new[] with () in:

      mutexes(new QAtomicPointer<QMutex>[size]()), // (): zero-initialize

does not actually zero-initialize (see disassembly in the bug
report). This is definitely a compiler bug.

Since we plan on removing QMutexPool in Qt 5.8 anyway, let's just revert
the patch.

Thiago Macieira 29076cf6cb Fix QBasicAtomicPointer::{load,store} to actually be relaxed
We were using direct loading and operator=, which for everything except
std::atomic was very relaxed. But std::atomic<T *> defines the direct
access to actually be the least relaxed possible, under the idea that if
you didn't know any better to use a member function, you probably need
the most protection.

So use Ops::load and Ops::store.

Thiago Macieira 29efec2d8c Mark QThread::currentThreadId() as a pure function
It always returns the same information for each thread it is called
in. But since it's different per thread, we don't think it's
const. pthread_self() on Linux is marked const, though we think it
really ought to be pure. On other OSes, the annotation isn't present,
but the we can assume function is so.

Thiago Macieira 112e53fdc4 Don't store the pthread_t thread ID twice in QThread
It was being stored once in QThreadPrivate and once in QThreadData, with
the latter being hidden as a Qt::HANDLE. Besides saving a little bit of
memory, this also solves a small data race condition that arises from
trying to connect a signal to an object moved to that thread and then
emit that signal shortly after the thread starts. Before this patch,
QThreadData::threadId was initialized only by QThreadPrivate::start(),
which meant that we were racing that initialization with this check in
QMetaObject::activate:

  const bool receiverInSameThread = currentThreadId == receiver->d_func()->threadData->threadId;

Marc Mutz 4579d966af QMutexPool: avoid QVarLengthArray of QAtomicPointers
QAtomicPointer is CopyConstructible, but std::atomic<T*> is not,
for a reason. So avoid putting them in a QVarLengthArray, using
a dynamic heap allocation instead. This sounds wasteful until
you realize that virtually all users of QMutexPool (and we know
them all) use the global instance(), and that each QMutex (131,
by default) is heap-allocated, too.

Olivier Goffart 343e5d066a Optimized implementation of QReadWriteLock
QReadWriteLock is supposed to be a better alternative to QMutex when there
are only a few writers but potentially lots of reads. However, in practice
the previous implementation was much slower, unless you really do a lot of
work with the lock for read and you have lots of contention.
Indeed, the previous implementation was locking a QMutex both for lock, and
unlock (making it already at least twice as slow as QMutex).

This new implementation brings QReadWriteLock back to the same level as QMutex:
 - No memory allocations in the uncontended case (almost no overhead allowing to
   create many of them in classes)
 - Lock-free if there is no contention

Should support up to 2^31 concurrent readers on 64 bit platforms, and 2^28
on 32 bit platforms

Paolo Angelelli c5d4972577 Fix for deferredDelete() bug when calling the glib loop directly
This patch makes sure that all events posted using Qt on top of the
GLib event loop have the loopLevel counter incremented.
This is done since Qt depends on the fact that all deleteLater() calls
are issued within the scope of some signal handler (in other words,
triggered by the chain sendEvent() -> notifyInternal2()).
There is a side effect though: in the conditions affected by this
patch, that is deleteLater()s issued within a glib event handler for
example, manually calling processEvents() or sendPostedEvents() with
or without the QEvent::DeferredDelete flag has the same effect, and
deferred deleted events are always processed.
While this is not a currently working feature which the patch breaks,
this side effect seems to be difficult to avoid without separating
sendPostedEvents() and processEvents() into a public and a private
method, in order to detect when they are manually called.
Such change could perhaps be done for Qt6.
An autotest for QTBUG-36434 is also included.
Autotesting for QTBUG-32859 seems to be more challenging in this
respect, due to its dependency on GLib.

Thiago Macieira 7ffcafd1b5 Remove all the atomic code besides MSVC and std::atomic
[ChangeLog][Important Behavior Changes] Starting with Qt 5.7, Qt
requires a C++11 compiler with support for C++11 atomics. This affects
user code too: Qt headers no longer compile with a C++98 compiler. The
minimum compiler versions for this release are:
 * Clang 3.4 (found in XCode 5.1)
 * GCC 4.7
 * Microsoft Visual Studio 2012
