WinRT stores settings inside the app bundle, not in the registry.
Some tests are not fully functional due to errors in the file
implementation (See QTBUG-40588).
QSettings::SystemScope translates to a roaming container on WinRT,
meaning that settings stored inside there should be uploaded and
shared among devices. However, this is untested so far.
The tests have been updated for those platforms which do not store
the order of keys. This has been done on some locations only so
far, but needed to be done on more places for WinRT.

This is much more useful than the URL "file:", it allows to use
"empty path" and "empty URL" for the same meaning (e.g. not set).
QFileDialog actually uses "file:" though, as the URL for the
"My Computer" item in the sidebar. This patch preserves that.
[ChangeLog][QtCore][QUrl] QUrl::fromLocalFile now returns an empty URL
if the input string is empty.

The old unix locking code is no longer working on unix since it locks on
a file descriptor, but QSaveFile creates a new file, and as a result we
get the lock on the wrong file. Also there is no need to keep the lock
held only for reading as QSaveFile is atomic. It just needs to be held
when doing a read before writing.
As a result, since we don't hold the same lock, there could be a race
with an application running an older version of Qt if they are writing
on the same configuration file.

QSettings has changed and is no longer compatible with the one of

The default in QTextStream is to use the C locale, so default
QTextStream are not affected. When you set a QLocale on it, the default
was to use group separators (which is the QLocale default too). This
commit makes QTextStream respect a QLocale in which the
OmitGroupSeparators option had been set.

Allow to alter the default configuration for categories by passing a
message type: All message types with lower severity are disabled in this
category.
This is useful for libraries, which shouldn't mess with the category
registry itself: Setting rules, a category filter ... might cause
conflicts and ordering problems, so this API should be reserved to the
specific application.
For the Qt categories, we have code in the default category filter that
disables the 'debug' category. However, this is hardcoded, and there's no
way so far for other libraries to get the same behavior. With this patch
one can get the same behavior:

~QDebug() removes any trailing space if autoInsertSpaces() is true.
However, if one uses QDebugStateSaver the global autoInsertSpaces might
be false, but a space was added by a custom operator<<.
Explicitly check for this in QDebugStateSaverPrivate::restoreState. Remove
any trailing space if the local state asks for adding trailing spaces, but
the original one doesn't. Add a trailing space if the local state doesn't
ask for one, but the global state does.

Passing this flag to QFileDevice::map() will allow writes to the mapped memory
without modifying the file that was mapped. These writes will be lost when the
memory is unmapped.

Similar to QTextStream::reset(), this resets the stream format to the
defaults. Its primary use is inside custom operator<< implementations,
where you'd want to have a fixed format regardless of the current
stream state.

Allow the user to disable the quoting of QString, QByteArray,
QStringLiteral by passing a "noquote()" stream modifier.
This requires another flag to be added to QDebug::Stream. To
keep BC we're using the QMessageLogContext::version field
to differentiate between QDebug streams created by earlier
versions.

Like for integers, this is activated only on QLocales other than C.

The setting of (static) messageHandler to qDefaultMessageHandler if null
was happening in multiple threads simultaneously, so it needs synchronization.
Used an atomic pointer in case qInstallMessageHandler is called from a thread,
but more importantly, initialized the static vars right away.
Improve auto test to ensure that qInstallMessageHandler(0) still sets the
default message handler.

On Unix systems where the GUI event dispatcher uses a notification
system for socket notifiers that is out of band compared to select(),
it's possible for the QSocketNotifier to activate after the pipe has
been read from. When that happened, the ioctl(2) call with FIONREAD
might return 0 bytes available, which we interpreted to mean EOF.
Instead of doing that, always try to read at least one byte and examine
the returned byte count from read(2). If it returns 0, that's a real
EOF; if it returns -1 EWOULDBLOCK, we simply ignore the situation.
That's the case on OS X: the Cocoa event dispatcher uses CFSocket to get
notifications and those use kevent (and, apparently, an auxiliary
thread) instead of an in-thread select() or poll(). That means the event
loop would activate the QSocketNotifier even though there is nothing to
be read.

The existing waitForNotified method has the design limitation that it
doesn't allow the tracking of multiple I/O operations on a single
file handle.
Therefore we introduce an additional method waitForAnyNotified that

On Windows, DataLocation currently returns the value obtained by
passing CSIDL_COMMON_APPDATA to SHGetSpecialFolderPath(). This is
the local non-roaming path. For actually storing settings, the roaming
path should be used (CSIDL_APPDATA). Introduce new AppDataLocation to
return that path and AppLocalDataLocation for the local path and deprecate
DataLocation.
[ChangeLog][QtCore][QStandardPaths] QStandardPaths now has new
enumeration values AppDataLocation, AppLocalDataLocation to be able
to differentiate between roaming and local paths on the Windows
operating system. DataLocation is deprecated in favor of AppDataLocation.

This patch aims to provide an updated test that follows changes started
in 10.7: new rule is that only root can access SystemScope settings. It
also disables the sync() workaround code path which is at least not
executed during the tst_QSettings execution and returns wrong value to
the test.

- Record the last event ID with every callback. This event ID is passed
to FSEventStreamCreate when restarting the stream, so the watcher will
receive all events that occurred since invalidating the previous stream.
- Never start with kFSEventStreamEventIdSinceNow, because this will
generate a (bogus) soft-assert in FSEventStreamFlushSync in CarbonCore
when no event occurred since stream creation. The last globally
generated event ID is used instead to simulate the "now".
- Do not dispose and recreate the stream in the callback, but use a
queued signal-slot connection to schedule this on thread that owns the
watcher.

tst_qdebug didn't test adding something else after the MyLine object,
so I didn't realize that a space was missing there. All debug operators
should end with maybeSpace(), but with the settings of the caller, so this
requires restoring the settings before calling it. To make it convenient
for all << operators, the destructor of QDebugStateSaver takes care of that.

This makes it even more convenient to set rules e.g. for just one run of an

The documentation says that the left side of a logging rule has the syntax
<category>[.<type>]
with optional wildcard '*' as the first or the last character (or at
both positions.
However, so far we didn't allow
qt.*.debug
But what we did allow is implicit dropping of trailing '.', e.g.
qt.* matched also 'qt'
Fix these by splitting up the '.type' in advance, and then do string
matching only on the 'real' category names.

Use the QTextStream stream operator for formatting 64 bit numbers,
just like we do for other numbers, too. This ensures all numbers in
a QDebug stream e.g. respect the hex and showbase modifiers.
The original reason for formatting qin64, quint64 with QString::number
is unclear (pre-dates the original qt4 git import). Maybe QTextStream
did lack proper support for 64 bit numbers back then.

In the original change - cfb44c6528 - when
querying for the path of a file that did not contain a slash after the
drive indicator it would get the current path and return that as the path
that the file resided on.
However this meant that it would take the current path at that time which
may not be the actual path that was expected. So it was decided that
it should revert back to the original behavior which was to just return
the drive letter followed by the colon which would thus indicate still
that it represented whatever the current path was on that drive.

It was not possible to get the actual process ID (in a cross-platform
manner) from QProcess, as the user would need to handle the returned
typedef (Q_PID) differently on Unix and Windows.
On Unix Q_PID is the actual process ID, but on Windows it's a pointer
to a PROCESS_INFORMATION structure, which among other fields contains
the process ID. Instead of returning a pointer on Windows,
QProcess::processId() will return the actual process ID on both Windows
and Unix.
[ChangeLog][QtCore][QProcess] Added processId() to QProcess. This
function will, unlike pid(), return the actual process identifier on
both Window and Unix.

Allow configuration of logging rules from outside of the application,
either through a configuration file (.config/QtProject/qtlogging.ini),
or through a file specified by a QT_LOGGING_CONF environment
variable.
The logging rules from the different sources are concatenated: First
the rules from QtProject/qtlogging.ini are applied, then
QLoggingCategory::setLoggingRules(), finally from the environment.

and their default debug output will be hidden.

The basedir xdg spec says:
"All paths set in these environment variables must be absolute.
If an implementation encounters a relative path in any of these variables it
should consider the path invalid and ignore it."
Therefore we ignore relative paths including the empty string.

Add support for using qCDebug and friends in the 'printf style' way.
This allows an almost mechanical conversion of existing qDebug, qWarning,
qCritical macros, and allows avoiding the size overhead the streaming
style incurs (mostly due to inlined QDebug code).
To handle this gracefully we require variadic macros (part of
C++11/C99). For compilers not supporting variadic macros we fall back
to checking the category in QMessageLogger.

The documentation implies that cd() and cdUp() functions return false if
the new directory is not readable, but that is not the case. It is an
obvious mistake in the documentation, because cd'ing into a nonreadable
directory is perfectly valid.
Provided also with a test to verify that cd() actually returns true with
nonreadable directories.

To be able to call SetNamedPipeHandleState on stdin in a child
process, we must create a read-end pipe handle with the
FILE_WRITE_ATTRIBUTES flag set.
This can't be done with CreateNamedPipe but only with CreateFile.
Therefore we're creating the handles for the child process always
with CreateFile now. Besides, it's conceptually cleaner to have the
server handle of the named pipe in the calling process.
[ChangeLog][QtCore][Windows] Fix regression from Qt4 in QProcess.
It wasn't possible anymore to alter pipe modes of stdin in child
processes.

It's unexpected that all messages generated by the stream version
of qDebug and friends have a trailing space. It also makes switching
to categorized logging (which only supports the stream version) difficult,
since all autotests checking for debug output would have to be adapted.

Currently network is only required to gather the host info for one
test case. That does not justify to disable all other tests, which can
provide useful information on the state when doing a port. Hence
disable that testcase if no network is available.

This is what ConfigLocation was meant to be. A directory shared by all
applications. Unfortunately when I wrote the fallback on Windows,
I picked DataLocation (which is app-specific) instead of
GenericDataLocation (which is shared between apps). This makes it
impossible to have config files shared between apps, e.g. for libraries.
It also makes ConfigLocation quite inconsistent (on Windows one cannot
use it to load another app's config file, while it works everywhere else).
All this is fixed by GenericConfigLocation, which is shared between apps.

Add Q_OS_MAC-protected function declarations to header

CF and NS types are forward-declared in the header

Add cf_returns_retained/ns_returns_autoreleased attributes
to toCFString() and toNSURL(). These attributes assists
the clang static analyzer. Add Q_DECL_ helper macros
to qcompilerdetection.h.
Add test functions (in _mac.mm files) to the QString
and QUrl tests. Split out the test class declarations
into a separate headers files.

On linux using QFileSystemWatcher with inotify backend when a watched
file is moved and added again to the watched files its path is not
replaced with the new one. This behavior prevents the emission of
the fileChanged signal with the wrong file path.

For easy cross-platform and cross-device UIs, automatic asset swapping
based on filename is being developed. This API provides the logic for
the swapping, so that applications can use it themselves with the same
logic as any automatic swapping done in application templates.
Selector set is initially minimal, aiming for just platform selection
and enabling a common selection mechanism for Qt platforms to use.

The old code smply copied 100 shorts from the pointer passed into the
ushortarray ctor, regardless of the actual bounds of the original array.
Fix by making the ctor take the array by deference, deducing the size
as a template parameter, and only copying that much.

The Qt::OffsetFromUtc TimeSpec was made public in Qt 4.4 but the access
methods were never made public in the apidox effectively meaning the
feature was never used. The implementation was also incomplete and
inconsistent.
This change cleans up the implementation and exports new public API for
using the TimeSpec using new method names consistent with the new
QTimeZone support.
This change increases the QDataStream Version number for Qt 5.2 to 15.
The behavior of one constructor has changed slightly to be consistent
with the rest of the feature, but this behavior was never documented.

of Qt::OffsetFromUTC, added new methods for offsetFromUTC(),

QUrl("http%3A%2F%2Fexample.com") has only a path of
"http%3A%2F%2Fexample.com". In Qt 5.0 and 5.1, the %3A would get decoded
to ':', which in turn makes the URL invalid (colon before first slash).

This fixes the wrong value for path() and fileName() when a
path or file name actually contains a '%'.
userInfo() and authority() are not individual getters, they combine
two or more fields, so full decoding isn't possible (e.g. username
containing a ':').
[ChangeLog][Important Behavior Changes][QUrl and QUrlQuery]QUrl now
defaults to decoded mode in the getters and setters for userName,
password, host, topLevelDomain, path and fileName. This means a '%'
in one of those fields is now returned (or set) as '%' rather than "%25".
In the unlikely case where the former behavior was expected, pass PrettyDecoded
to the getter and TolerantMode to the setter.

Invoking waitForStarted() on a QProcess before or after an unsuccessful
call to start() (e.g., with an empty command), would execute FD_SET with
an invalid file descriptor and cause the process to abort.

QStandardPaths::enableTestMode has a verb in the imperative ("enable")
as the core word in the name. That indicates an action. The function
should not have had a parameter.
Instead, add a Qt-style setXXXEnabled function.

For some time, we've assumed that the URL specification had a mistake in
that it didn't allow the "#" character to appear decoded in the
fragment. We've gotten away with it so far.
However, turns out that the CoreFoundation NSURL class doesn't like it.
So we have to be stricter.

Those sections contain more than one components of a URL, separated by
delimiters. For that reason, QUrl::FullyDecoded and QUrl::DecodedMode do
not make sense, since they would cause the returned value to be
ambiguous and/or fail to parse again.
In fact, there was a comment in the test saying "look how it becomes
ambiguous".
Those modes are already forbidden in the setters and getters of the full
URL (setUrl(), url(), toString() and toEncoded()).

of the URL did not change. For example, x:/path+path and
x:/path%2Bpath were the same. However, to do this and yet be compliant
with most URL uses in the real world, we had to add exceptions:
- "/" and "%2F" were not the same in the path, despite the delimiter
being behind (rationale was the complex definition of path)
- "+" and "%2B" were not the same in the query, so we ended up not
transforming any sub-delim in the query at all
Now, we change our understanding based on the following line from
RFC 3986 section 2.2:
URIs that differ in the replacement of a reserved character with
its corresponding percent-encoded octet are not equivalent.
From now on, QUrl will not replace any sub-delim or gen-delim
("reserved character"), except where such a character could not exist
in the first place. This simplifies the code and removes all
exceptions.
As a side-effect, this has also changed the behaviour of the "{" and
"}" characters, which we previously allowed to remain decoded.

percent-encoded forms. Now, both classes always keep all delimiters
exactly as they were in the original URL text.

We don't know what it might be used for. The RFC for URI says it's an

So far, this function hasn't been used for input coming in from the
user, so it wasn't necessary. But we may want to do it, or we may
already be doing it accidentally somewhere that isn't triggering the
failed assertions during unit testing.
So let's be on the safe side and allow it. And test it too.

Registered names and IP addresses can only contain unreserved
characters (letters, digits, dots, hyphens, underscores) and the
colon, which is a gen-delim. For registered names and IPv4 addresses,
we can simply use the default config -- if anything that remains
percent-encoded, it means it's not a valid hostname anyway.
For IPv6, we just need to decode the colon.

The rule for a new override is that it must still work if the old
implementation is called. The catch is that any class that derives from
QProcess and isn't recompiled will still have QIODevice::open in its
virtual table. That is equivalent to overriding open() and calling
QIODevice::open() (like the tests).
In Qt 5.0, QProcess::start() called QIODevice::open directly, not the
virtual open(), so there's no expectation that a user-overridden open()
be called. With that in mind, simply fix QProcess::start to not call the
virtual open at all.
Similarly with QLocalSocket, the calls to open were always non-virtual.

The code is shared with QDir::cleanPath(), by extracting the common parts
it into a helper, qt_normalizePathSegments().

Leading and double dots are bad, but trailing dots are fine. The ASCII
part of a hostname is supposed to be LDH (letters, digits, hyphen) only,
but we accept '_' (underscore) as an exception too.

During a call to QDir::mkpath(), the same path could be created
by another process, in which case the OS mkdir will fail with EEXIST.
But the docs for mkpath() state that it's not an error if it
already exists, whereas for mkdir() it is an error. So
QFileSystemEngine::createDirectory should accept the EEXIST error
silently if it occurs while creating the sequence of parent directories
and the final leaf directory, but should fail if EEXIST happens when
it was called from QDir::mkdir(), which is when the createParents
parameter is false. We assume the operating system mkdir() and
CreateDirectory() are atomic, so there should be no race condition
in QDir::mkdir(). It's not necessary for mkpath() to call stat()
at each level, only to check whether an existing entry is a directory
or a file. Also added to the autotest to verify that if the
path is an existing file, creating a dir with the same name will
fail in either mkdir or mkpath.

RFC 3454 says about prohibited characters (section 2, "Preparation
Overview"):
3) Prohibit -- Check for any characters that are not allowed in the
output. If any are found, return an error. This is described in
section 5.
In other words, we mustn't simply strip the output of prohibited
characters. We must generate an error if they are present. We do that by
clearing the data.
We already had tests for prohibited output, but they were
indistinguishable from being stripped. So instead add some extra
characters so that we can tell whether the label was cleared.

In Qt 5, I managed to break the guarantee that a deserialised local
datetime is the same time of day (potentially different UTC time),
regardless of which timezone it was serialised in. This happened after
I fixed QTBUG-4057 with If650e7960dca7b6ab44b8233410a6369c41df73a,
which serialised datetimes as UTC.
This patch reverts QDateTime serialisation to pre-Qt 5 behaviour to
restore the guarantee and consequently re-opens QTBUG-4057.

If a process dies before all output is read into the internal buffer
of QProcess, we might lose data. Therefore we must drain the output
pipes like we already do in the synchronous wait functions.

We don't need to keep an internal QBuffer position, we can just use the
one from QIODevice::pos(). It will keep track of goings ahead and
backwards for us, plus it will make the default bytesAvailable() work
out-of-the-box too.

When QTemporaryFile attempts to create a new file in
createFileFromTemplate, it fails if the filename exists and is a
directory. Windows returns error code 5 (ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED) in this
case - rather than ERROR_FILE_EXISTS - which is not handled.
This patch handles ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED in addition to the already
handled ERROR_FILE_EXISTS, meaning that QTemporaryFile will continue
to look for unique names when a directory with the same name exists.
