This only enables compilation, it doesn't fix any test.

Qt on Android supports process, but not TEST_HELPER_INSTALLS. See also
acdd57cb for winrt.

android-ndk-r10e is used to compile, see
http://doc-snapshots.qt.io/qt5-5.11/androidgs.html .

corelib/io/{qdir,qresourceengine} need to be fixed later.

Giuseppe D'Angelo 06af9a1e38 QRegularExpression: refactor pattern optimization
After the move to PCRE2, optimizing patterns has been a thorn in the
side due to the fact that PCRE2's JIT compiler modifies the pattern
object itself (instead of returning a new set of data, like PCRE1
did). To make this fit with the existing behavior, a read/write
lock was introduced, with the read part locking when matching and
the write when compiling (or JIT-compiling) the pattern.

This locking strategy however introduced a performance issue,
as we needed:

* to acquire a write lock to compile/optimize the pattern (incl. the
common case where the pattern was already compiled, so bailing out
immediately);

* to acquire a read lock during the actual match, to prevent
some other thread from optimizing the pattern under our nose.

This was due to the "lazy" optimization policy of QRegularExpression
-- optimize a pattern after a certain number of usages. The
excessive amount of locking effectively limited scalability.

Simplify the code, and drop that policy altogether: since JIT
compiling in PCRE2 is faster and pretty much "always recommended",
just always do it for any pattern (unless it gets disabled via
env variables) when compiling it.

This allows to go back to a plain QMutex, and now the actual
matching doesn't require acquiring any locks any longer. Of course,
there is still a mutex acquired just before matching for checking
whether the pattern needs recompiling in the first place; this can
probably be further optimized via double-checked locking (using
atomics), but not doing it right now.

This shift makes a couple of pattern options controlling
optimization useless, and allows to centralize the 3
QRegularExpression tests (which were actually the very same test,
just setting slightly different optimizations strategies).

While at it, install a stress-test for threading, with the idea
of running it under TSAN or helgrind to catch bugs in
QRegularExpression's locking.

[ChangeLog][Important Behavior Changes][QRegularExpression] Regular
expressions are now automatically optimized (including JIT
compiling) on their first usage. The pattern options
OptimizeOnFirstUsageOption and DontAutomaticallyOptimizeOption no
longer have any effect, and will get removed in a future version of
Qt. QRegularExpression::optimize() can be still used to compile and
optimize the regular expression in advance (before any match), if
needed.

Edward Welbourne 9f8938b89a Cope if mktime() deems times in a spring forward gap to be invalid
In tst_QDateTime::springForward(), we test correct handling of times
in the gap; these are formally invalid and a mktime() implementation
may reasonably reject them causing our date-time code to produce an
invalid result. So handle that case gracefully in the tests, only
insisting on consistency between the two ways of preparing the date.
In one test, package the repeated code I was going to adapt into a
macro to save repeitition.

Edward Welbourne 91f3687ee5 Make QString's formatting of doubles be consistent with other places
QString::sprintf(), like the C printf-family, always includes two
digits in any exponent it outputs. Up to 5.6, number() and arg()
taking a double did the same; but changes at 5.7 to enable opting out
of the leading zero this implies for a single-digit exponent
accidentally opted out of it in args() and number(). This commit
fixes number() and arg() to include QLocaleData::ZeroPadExponent in
the flags they pass down to the C locale's doubleToString(), restoring
the prior behavior, including consistency with sprintf().

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QString] Formatting of doubles with single-digit
exponent, by number() or args(), now includes a leading zero in that
exponent, consistently with sprintf(), as it did up to 5.6.

Albert Astals Cid 78e92997ed QLocale: Update the system private on QLocale default constructor if needed
When first starting an Android app we have invocation order issue, to
load the platform plugin we create the default QLocale (needed by the
resource locator code to see if :/qt/etc/qt.conf exists) so when the
android platform plugin loads and creates its own QSystemLocale, the
QLocale defaultLocalePrivate is already created and pointing to
globalLocaleData which means that systemData won't be called and thus
the code that triggers the call to QLocalePrivate::updateSystemPrivate
won't be called when calling QLocale().

I thought of two ways of fixing this, one was calling
QLocalePrivate::updateSystemPrivatea() from the QAndroidSystemLocale
constructor, but giving the responsibility to not break things to the
plugin seems a little fragile, so making the check on QLocale()
seems better.

Without this patch an Android app doing
  QApplication app(argc, argv);
  qDebug() << QLocale().name();
  qDebug() << QLocale().name();
  qDebug() << QLocale::system().name();
  qDebug() << QLocale().name();
would print
  ""
  ""
  "ca_ES"
  "ca_ES"
now it correctly prints "ca_ES" the four times.

Thiago Macieira ea6675374f QString: fix comparisons to null strings in ucstricmp
Commit 8f52ad9fe0 ("ucstricmp: compare
null and empty strings equal") made sure empties and nulls would compare
equally, but may have broken the null vs non-empty comparison (which was
not tested). The commit message also said that it expected all callers
to handle null before calling into those functions, but that's not the
case for QStringView created from a null QString: the incoming "a"
pointer was null.

So just remove the checks for null pointers and rely on the size checks
doing the right thing.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QString] Fixed a regression from 5.9 that caused
comparing default-constructed QStrings to be sorted after non-empty
strings.

Edward Welbourne b44df9937e Clean-up in QDateTime's parsing of ISODate{,WithMs}
Actually check that there's a T where ISO 8601 wants it (instead of
just skipping over whatever's there), with something after it; move
some declarations later; add some comments; and use the QStringRef API
more cleanly (so that it's easier to see what's going on). Simplify a
loop condition to avoid the need for a post-loop fix-up.

This incidentally prevents an assertion failure (which brought the
mess to my attention) parsing a short string as an ISO date-time; if
there's a T with nothing after it, we won't try to read at index -1 in
the following text. (The actual fail seen had a Z where the T should
have been, with nothing after it.)

Add tests for invalid ISOdate cases that triggered the assertion.

The operator_eqeq(data13) test expected the local-time epoch and UTC

*sometimes* ahead of (or behind) UTC, due to DST, localTimeType is
duly set to indicate that, which doesn't preclude the zone agreeing
with UTC at the epoch. This indeed happens for Europe/London, which
agrees on the epoch but was ahead a few months later. So we can't
determine what outcome to expect based solely on localTimeType,
although we can be sure of a match when local time is UTC. So skip

Alex Trotsenko 89b0364cde QRingBuffer: avoid reallocations of the data
Since its initial implementation, QRingBuffer had the following
fragilities in the architecture:

  - it does not guarantee validity of the pointers, if new data will
    be appended. As an example, passing an address of the QRingBuffer
    chunk as a parameter to the WriteFileEx() function on Windows
    requires the stability of the pointer. So, we can't add new data
    to the QRingBuffer until the overlapped operation completed
    (related issues were fixed for QWindowsPipeWriter and QSerialPort
    in 5.6 branch by introducing an intermediate byte array);
  - inefficient reallocations in reserve(), if a shared chunk was
    inserted in the queue (we can get a reallocation in the place
    where we don't expect it:

      char *writePtr = buffers.last().data() + tail;  <-  line #133

    ).

Proposed solution is to avoid reallocation by allocating a new
block instead. That was accomplished by introducing a QRingChunk
class which operates on a fixed byte array and implements head/tail
pointers strategy for each individual buffer in the queue. So,
QRingBuffer is no longer dependent on QByteArray's internal
shrink/growth algorithms.

Edward Welbourne 99b1253101 Kludge round MS TZ APIs' lies breaking a test
Commit 68bcccac took account of MS TZ APIs mis-describing non-DST
zones making changes to standard offset (e.g. Europe/Samara in 2011 at
the end of October); however a DST transition that coincides with an
equal and opposite change to standard offset, while the other end of
its DST period changes normally, ends up looking exactly the same
(although it's nominally subtly different), in MS's APIs. Thus fixing
the more common case broke this more obscure case; there is no way to
fix this (other than not using MS's broken-by-design APIs). So kludge
the test to skip the bit we know this breaks.

name of the signed size type became a subject of discussion in the
context of readability of code using this type and the intention of
using it for all length, size and count properties throughout the entire
framework in future versions of Qt.

This change proposes qsizetype as new name for qssize_t to emphasize the
readability of code over POSIX compatibility, the former being

Edward Welbourne 285596ee19 Special-case parsing of Zulu time-zone in date-times
When parsing a date-time's zone, a stray Z denotes UTC (a.k.a. Zulu
time), despite not being a valid name for the zone. Clients parsing
such date strings had to treat the Z as a literal, rather than a
zone-ID, but then they got back a LocalTime instead of the UTC the
string actually described. So teach QTimeZoneParser to handle this
special case and adapt an existing test (that used a time ending in Z,
but had to treat it as a local time) to check this works.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QDateTime] When parsing a time-zone, "Z" is now
recognized as an alias for UTC.

Thiago Macieira 0e0f656f50 Mark the previously public qstringalgorithms.h functions private
Discussed during Qt Contributor Summit 2017. We concluded that we don't
want to make these functions public, as they do not follow Qt coding
style API. Specifically,

   qStartsWith(a, b)

is not easily understood which argument is the needle and which argument
is the haystack (same problem memcpy() has). Compare that to

   a.startsWith(b)

which can clearly be read in English as a subject-verb-object sentence.

This commit removes the unit tests that called compare().

Thiago Macieira 3b61cd6ad7 QStringView: De-inline the length calculation so we can use SSE2
Performance is more important in this case than the theoretical benefit
of constexpr. This commit implements the SSE2 search for 16-bit null and
it might be possible to implement the equivalent for AArch64
(investigation required). It also adds a fallback to wcslen() for
systems where wchar_t is short (non-x86 Windows or 32-bit x86 build with
-no-sse2).

We can re-add the constexpr loop once the C++ language has a way of
overloading constexpr and non-constexpr. GCC has a non-standard way to
do that with __builtin_constant_p, which is also implemented in this
commit, but note that the inline function is still not constexpr.

Tor Arne Vestbø d2a988512e macOS: Detect use of heap-allocated QMacAutoReleasePool
QMacAutoReleasePool is backed by an NSAutoreleasePool, which documents that
"you should always drain an autorelease pool in the same context (invocation
of a method or function, or body of a loop) that it was created".

This means allocating QMacAutoReleasePool on the heap is not a supported
use-case, but unfortunately we can't detect it on construction time.

Instead we detect whether or not the associated NSAutoreleasePool has been
drained, and prevent a double-drain of the pool.

Edward Welbourne ab2655c559 Support POSIX rules as $TZ values
The TZ environment variable can validly contain a POSIX rule, rather
than an IANA ID, as described here:
http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/9699919799/basedefs/V1_chap08.html#tag_08_03

However, if TZ were set to such a value, leading to it being used as
systemTimeZoneId(), it would be passed to QTzTimeZonePrivate::init(),
which is a no-op unless it manages to open a zoneinfo/ file with the
given ianaId as name. When the environment variable doesn't name a
zoneinfo/ file, we would thus get an invalid time-zone. We can,
instead, check whether the ianaId looks like a valid POSIX rule and,
if it does, use it as m_posixRule, enabling us to correctly handle
this case.

Tweak parsing of POSIX rules so that a zone using name "UTC" or "GMT"
with an offset other than 0 will be rejected as invalid. This avoids
parsing a zone name such as "GMT+17" or "UTC+00:01" as a POSIX rule,
where it should be understood as an offset from UTC (and only certain
well-established offsets are supported).

Added two test-cases to tst_QTimeZone::tzTest() for validity of a
POSIX zone value - a simple one constructed during discussion of the
bug, the other taken from an example in:
http://leaf.sourceforge.net/doc/buci-tz3.html

Edward Welbourne 80853afd73 Add startOfDay() and endOfDay() methods to QDate
These methods give the first and last QDateTime values in the given
day, for a given time-zone or time-spec. These are usually the
relevant midnight, or the millisecond before, except when time-zone
transitions (typically DST changes) skip it, when care is needed to
select the right moment. Adapted some code to make use of the new
API, eliminating some old cruft from qdatetimeparser_p.h in the
process.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QDate] Added startOfDay() and endOfDay() methods
to provide a QDateTime at the start and end of a given date, taking
account of any time skipped by transitions, e.g. a DST spring-forward,
which can lead to a day starting at 01:00 or ending just before 23:00.

Marc Mutz 2e1763d83a Non-associative containers: add range constructors
Something nice we'd like to detect for array-backed containers
is if the iterator passed is a Contiguous one; if the type is also
trivially copyable / Q_PRIMITIVE_TYPE, we could memcpy() the whole
range.

However, there's no trait in the Standard to detect contiguous
iterators (the best approximation would be detecting if the iterator
is actually a pointer). Also, it's probably not smart to do the work
now for QVector since QVector needs refactoring anyhow, and this work
will be lost.

Edward Welbourne a9c111ed8c Clean-up in QDateTime's parsing of ISODate{,WithMs}

Edward Welbourne 8b628bb251 Add test for time zone transitions near the epoch
This needs a zone with transitions near the epoch; and the only CET
with DST that winter was Italy (copied by Malta), for which the Olson
database had a recent (2016) correction to its data, for that winter.
That means we get inconsistent results on O/Sen of different ages.

So add a separate testEpochTranPrivate(), alongside testCetPrivate(),
and test it with America/Toronto. (Unfortunately, MS-Win gets the
date wrong on the first transition after the epoch, so we have to code
round that.)

Since information before the epoch isn't reliably available, only test
the search backwards if nextTransition does find something before it.
(We can safely assume all real transitions happened since 1601;
non-celestial time-keeping wasn't accurate enough, before that, for
anyone to synchronize with anything but celestial time.)

Edward Welbourne cff39f1818 tst_QTimeZone: improve readability of code and failure reports
When QCOMPARE(,) reports two 12-digit numbers, it's not always
immediately obvious what the difference is (much less what 1/3600000
of it is); nor is it obvious that (or why) a given 12-digit number is
in fact correct. In contrast, our eyes can make sense of a
QDateTime's reported value quite well, enabling us to see what's
different; and it's possible to at least confirm the plausibility of
2-or-3 am on a spring or autumn day at a plausible transition (or even
to confirm it exactly by consulting suitable web-sites). Also
document the actual transition happening in each case (since I *did*
consult a suitable web-site). So prefer to QCOMPARE(,) two QDateTime
values instead of two 12-digit qint64s.

Where a that would be unsuitable, at least compare the difference to
zero, to make the error easier to understand (except when one of the
twelve-digit numbers consists entirely of 9s; that, for once, actually
is easy to see).

Write various multiples of 3600 as the relevant intelligible whole
number times 3600, rather than premultiplying, to make it obvious to
reders what's going on.

None of this changes what is actually tested.

Edward Welbourne 68f19fb630 QDateTimeParser: implement parsing of time-zone specifiers
The serialization of date-times understood time-zones (indicated by a
't' in a format string) but the parsing didn't (so viewed the 't' as a
literal element in the format string, not matched by the actual zone
it needs to parse), although some tests expected it to.
This made round-trip testing fail.

Chris Wilson 147aa29162 Fix sending UTC-offset QTimeZones through QDataStream
QTimeZone("UTC") should be valid, as "UTC" appears in the list of
availableTimeZoneIds(), and tst_QTimeZone::dataStreamTest() constructs
timezones like this, which are considered valid.

The internal representation of a QTimeZone("UTC") as created by
QTimeZone::QTimeZone(const QByteArray &ianaId) is a QUtcTimeZonePrivate
which isValid(), so the containing QTimeZone isValid() too.

When QTimeZone is serialized into a QDataStream, it calls
tz.d->serialize(ds) which is QUtcTimeZonePrivate::serialize. This
writes QStringLiteral("OffsetFromUtc") followed by the IANA ID and
the offset (etc.) to the datastream.

When QTimeZone is deserialized it looks for this marker string, and if
present, it passed all of the parameters to the QTimeZone constructor
(not just the name). However, that constructor does not support standard
IANA timezones (only custom ones), and when it detects that the supplied
IANA ID is actually listed in availableTimeZoneIds(), it leaves the
pointer to the QTimeZonePrivate uninitialized (NULL), which leaves
the QTimeZone invalid (isValid() returns false).

Thus, a valid timezone which was serialized and then deserialized has
become invalid. This also affects serialization of QDateTimes with
timezones.

Fixed by calling the name-only constructor first, which works (only) for
IANA standard timezones and leaves the QTimeZone invalid (isValid()
returns false) otherwise. In which case, we can call the many-argument
contructor to create a custom timezone with the same offset as the one
which was originally serialized.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QTimeZone] Fixed sending IANA standard UTC-offset
QTimeZones through QDataStream, which previously came out invalid after
deserialization.

Marc Mutz 126c4eae84 Split Q_COMPILER_UNICODE_STRINGS: add Q_STDLIB_UNICODE_STRINGS
Since commit bf2160e72c, we can rely on
charNN_t support in all compilers except MSVC 2013, and since that
commit, we use (in 5.10, not 5.9, yet)

  !defined(Q_OS_WIN) || defined(Q_COMPILER_UNICODE_STRINGS)

when we only need charNN_t, the type, as opposed to its library
support (u16string, char_traits<char16_t>, ...).

This patch splits the Q_C_UNICODE_STRINGS macro into two, adding
Q_STDLIB_UNICODE_STRINGS for when we need std::uNNstring, leaving
Q_C_UNICODE_STRINGS for when we need just charNN_t support.

In QDebug, when constructing a QChar out of a char16_t, cast to ushort
first, since QChar(char16_t) was only officially introduced in Qt 5.10.

[ChangeLog][Potentially Source-Incompatible Changes] The internal
Q_COMPILER_UNICODE_STRINGS macro is now defined if the compiler
supports charNN_t, even if the standard library does not. To check for
availability of std::uNNstring, use the new Q_STDLIB_UNICODE_STRINGS
macro.

We have two functions to get a substring without doing some

was a name for

- f(n): mid(0, size() - n)

As an action, it's called chop(), so call the transformation version
chopped().

I made chopped(n), n < 0 or n > size(), undefined, because QString(Ref)
::left() is broken[1], while the QByteArray implementation is not. This
is the only way to get consistent behavior among the three classes.

I's also the correct thing to do.

[1] instead of returning the empty string for negative indexes, it
returns the whole string.

Marc Mutz 399ab058c9 Add front()/back() to QString, QStringRef, QByteArray and QLatin1String
These STL-compatibility functions are present on our generic
containers, but not on the string classes.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QString/QStringRef/QByteArray/QLatin1String] Added
front() and back() for STL compatibility.

Marc Mutz 5dc1e08c8c Add qConvertTo{Utf8,Latin1,Local8Bit,Ucs4}() and corresponding QStringView methods
Like the qt_compare_strings()/qCompareStrings() split, distinguish
between the internal and exported functions.

Because of the circular dependency between qstring.h and qvector.h,
the inline toUcs4() function has to be in qvector.h.

At some point, we need to refactor the headers so qvector.h is lower
in the dependency chain than qstring.h. It's not the first time this
bites.

Marc Mutz 95263dbf7a Add a test for container API symmetry
Akin to the successful tst_QStringApiSymmetry, add such a test for
generic containers, too. Yes, we have tst_collections, but it's a
cut'n'paste mess that makes it hard to systematically perform
cross-class checks for consistency. This new test, still in its
infancy, uses templates and thus ensures that exactly the same checks
are run on all containers.

Starting out with front()/back(), which the string classes were found
to lack, we will build this test up, as we did and continue to do with
the string API one.

Sami Nurmenniemi bbb67ca32c Fix tst_Collections for gcc/arm
- Alignment test was not compiling or passing on GCC / arm
- Using C++11 alignas() enforces maximum limit for the alignment, which
  at least on GCC / arm is __BIGGEST_ALIGNMENT__ multiplied by 8
- On GCC 6.2.0 / x86_84, maximum alignment accepted by alignas is 128
- On GCC 5.3.0 / arm, maximum alignment accepted by alignas is 64
- This change calculates biggest tested alignment on ARM targets
  and compilers supporting alignas() to the value calculated
  from __BIGGEST_ALIGNMENT__
