Tor Arne Vestbø 189f9873ae macOS: Take window mask into account when computing QCocoaScreen::topLevelAt
Although not explicitly documented, this is the behavior in practice
on XCB and Windows, and we rely on this behavior in our implementation
of QApplication::widgetAt(), where we punch a temporary hole in the
widget using a mask if it has Qt::WA_TransparentForMouseEvents set.

Tor Arne Vestbø be7e5f94a1 macOS: Check NSWindow as well when determining if setVisible can bail out
In be268ae197 we made QCocoaWindow::setVisible
idempotent by checking if NSView.hidden needed update.

This failed to take into account the case when a window is moved from
being a child window to a top level, where the window is still visible
and the NSView's hidden state doesn't change, but we need to order in
the NSWindow that we're now managing.

We now check NSWindow.visible as well, if we're a top level window.

Tor Arne Vestbø 70d7c6a937 Avoid creating child windows twice when already visible
When a child window is made visible without its parent having been
created yet, we defer creating and making the child visible until
the parent is created.

But if a child window is explicitly created, we create the parent
first. And creating the parent will in turn apply visibility to
all children that had their visibility deferred. Which includes
creating the child.

This results in child -> parent -> child creation recursion,
which means that when we return from creating the parent window
we already have a platform window for our child, and should
bail out.

Volker Hilsheimer bde443801f QFont: add a tag type for features and other advanced properties
Instead of overloads and generic string literals with runtime checks,
use a dedicated Tag type for specifying the font feature. The Tag type
can only be instantiated with a string literal of exactly 4 characters
(plus the terminating null)l; longer or shorter literals result in a
compile time error.

Constructing a Tag from any other string type is possible through the
named fromString constructor, in which case we can only check the length
and warn at runtime.

The type's API is almost completely constexpr so that we can use it to
calculate e.g. enum values.

Marc Mutz 4a7c76d4a5 Include what you need: <QPointer>
All these TUs relied on transitive includes of qpointer.h, maybe to a
large extent via qevent.h, though, given that qevent.h is more or less
the only public QtBase header that includes qpointer.h, something else
seems to be at play here.

Said qevent.h actually needs QPointer in-name-only, so a forward
declaration would suffice. Prepare for qevent.h dropping the include.

The algorithm I used was:

If the TU mentions 'passiveGrabbers', the name of the QEvent function
that returns QPointers, and the TU doesn't have qpointer.h included
explicitly, include it. That may produce False Positives, but better
safe than sorry. Otherwise, in src/, add an include to all source and
header files which mention QPointer. Exception: if foo.h of a foo.cpp
already includes it, don't include again.

Named instances of variable application fonts are exposed
automatically through CTFontManagerCreateFontDescriptorsFromData()
(and also for the URL equivalent).

The main change here is just to call this instead of the overload
which only returns the first font.

Note that this also updates the test: This is because the conversion
from CoreText normalized weight values to TTF values is not 100%.
In the CoreText code, we map Heavy (0.56) to ExtraBold, but ExtraBold
gets converted to 0.6, which is closer to the CoreText value for Black
(0.62).

To avoid hitting this inconsistency, the QtExtraBold has been changed
to Black weight instead, which resolves to the same on all platforms.

QTextMarkdownImporter::import() took a QTD* as if it would be ok to
reuse one instance of QTextMarkdownImporter for repeated importing into

usually a short-lived, stack-allocated object, as in
 QTextMarkdownImporter(&doc, QTMI::DialectGitHub).import(input);
So it's less clumsy internally to require the document be provided to
the constructor: that way a QTextCursor can be constructed immediately
too, as part of the importer object rather than separately on the heap.

This is private API, unused outside qtbase.

Marc Mutz 11d6932560 Mark all of Qt as free of Q_FOREACH, except where it isn't
The density of Q_FOREACH uses in this and some other modules is still
extremely high, too high for anyone to tackle in a short amount of
time. Even if they're not concentrated in just a few TUs, we need to
make progress on a global QT_NO_FOREACH default, so grab the nettle
and stick to our strategy:

Mark the whole of Qt with QT_NO_FOREACH, to prevent new uses from
creeping in, and whitelist the affected TUs by #undef'ing
QT_NO_FOREACH locally, at the top of each file. For TUs that are part
of a larger executable, this requires these files to be compiled
separately, so add them to NO_PCH_SOURCES (which implies
NO_UNITY_BUILD_SOURCES, too).

In tst_qglobal.cpp and tst_qcollections.cpp change the comment on the
#undef QT_NO_FOREACH to indicate that these actually test the macro.

Marc Mutz f2f8820073 tests: port assorted trivial uses of Q_FOREACH to ranged for loops
All of these fall into the trivial category: loops over (readily made)
const local containers. As such, they cannot possibly depend on the
safety copy that Q_FOREACH performs, so are safe to port as-is to
ranged for loops.

There may be more where these came from, but these were the ones that
stood out as immediately obvious when scanning the 100s of uses in
qtbase, so I preferred to directly fix them over white-listing their
files with QT_NO_FOREACH (which still may be necessary for some files,

John Chadwick 1079b53739 Fix transparency in 16 bit and 24 bit ico files
As a result of the fix for QTBUG-75214, Qt inadvertently no longer
reads the AND mask that specifies transparency for 16-bit and 24-bit
ico files. This is because it tries to detect 32-bit icons by checking
icoAttrib.depth == 32, but icoAttrib.depth is set to the depth of the
QImage, not the depth of the icon, and 32-bit QImage is used for all of
the non-indexed cases (16-bit, 24-bit and 32-bit.)

This commit instead uses icoAttrib.nbits, which should reliably
determine whether or not the icon is 32-bit. This makes the behavior
consistent with other ico reading software, including Windows.

Also, adds a unit test that verifies correct behavior of icon masks,
checking for both QTBUG-75214 and QTBUG-113319.

Marc Mutz 5664424085 QPixmapCache: don't leak QString keys of evicted pixmap
It's not a real leak in that the string data is being freed on program
exit (or, more recently, QPixmapCache::clear()), but it can lead to
lots of memory being bound for much longer than expected when users
put in new QString keys without attempting to retrive them again. It
can also lead to problems with QStringLiterals lingering around until
after their underlying data has been freed. A bug in the Fusion style,
generating new string keys for identical state, exposed this
misbehavior, and one way to fix the resulting issue for the user is to
make sure that QPixmapCache doesn't leak QString keys.

The Fusion style issue with generating non-repeating keys for use with
QPixmapCache should also be fixed, eventually, but this patch
relegates that to an optimization issue (the caching is effectively
non-existent), the resource exhaustion is gone now.

The issue exists because the QString keys are internally mapped to
QPixmapCache::Key's by way of a QHash<QString, Key> cacheKeys data
structure. When the QCache, indexed by Key, not QString, decides to
evict an entry, the Key is invalidated, but no-one was removing the
corresponding entry from cacheKeys. So make the existing releaseKey(),
used to invalidate copies of Keys referring to evicted pixmaps, do
that, now. So as not to have to scan the whole cacheKeys QHash for the
right Key, store the QString key, if any, inside the Key, so
releaseKey() can retrieve it and use it for O(1) erasure from
cacheKey.

This allows removing the previous work-around in clear()
(6ab0d25a09), greatly simplify
object(QString), and requires to rewrite all code that holds iterators
or references into cacheKeys over an insertion into or removal from
the QCache. Two (insert() and remove()) have already been done in
prequel commits, so only flushDetachedPixmaps() was left.

Tor Arne Vestbø f4dca7c512 Consult QIcon::fallbackThemeName() even for themes with explicit parents
We would previously only use the fallback theme for themes that did
not exist, or for themes that did not declare any parent theme.

We now unconditionally use the fallback theme, even for themes that
declare their own parent themes, so that a QIcon::fromTheme("foo")
that doesn't exist in the current theme, nor any of its parents,
nor in "hicolor", will still be looked up in the fallback theme.

The reason this seemed to work in the existing tests was because
our test themes inherit system themes such as crystalsvg and gnome,
and we didn't provide a hicolor theme. Any of these themes missing
would lead us into the code path where we use the fallback theme
for a missing theme, masking that fact that we had not added the
fallback theme to the list of fallbacks for the theme that had
explicit parents declared.

The logic has been moved out of the theme parsing and into an
accessor in QIconTheme, so that we're not caching the fallback
theme lookup.

used as fallback even for themes that declare a parent theme.

Between the find() == 0 obfuscation (since fixed) and this unchecked
replace(), it took me way too much time to figure out what was going
on: the key passed has been invalidated by the setCacheLimit(0).

Now that we QVERIFY that the replace() _fails_, it's much easier to
backtrack and figure out why it does so and why, consequently, the
following find() is also expected to fail.

As a drive-by, reorder two lines so the grouping becomes clearer
(blocks now both headed by setCacheLimit()).

QPixmapCache maintains a mapping from QString to QPixmapCache::Key, in
the form of the cacheKeys QHash, but QPixmapCache::clear() didn't
touch it, leading to the string data (as well as the Keys) being
retained after any possible use. This can lead to memory slowly being
eaten up, as reported in QTBUG-112200, and prevents a periodic calling
of QPixmapCache::clear() from being a work-around for the issue in the
bug report.

Fix by clearing cacheKeys in QPixmapCache::clear().

This is designed as a low-risk enabler of a work-around, not a fix for
the issue. The work-around enabled by this is periodic calling of
QPixmapCache::clear().

Axel Spoerl 17c589df94 Shoehorn AccentColor into QPalette and keep existing 64bit resolve mask
It is necessary to add an AccentColor role to QPalette.
QPalette currently has 21 color roles and 3 color groups, which
require 63 bits to resolve. The resolve mask is implemented with a
qint64, which doesn't provide spare bits for another color role.

The color role NoRole is used as a default value, marking that a role
has not (yet) been defined. The enum value does not represent a valid
brush, even though it can theoretically be stored in QPalette's shared
data.

This patch adds the enum value AccentColor to QPalette::ColorRole,
increasing the available color roles to 22.
To keep the resolve mask at 63 bits, AccentColor is mapped to NoRole
in static constexpr bitPosition.

As the enum range would exceed 64 bits without this tweak, 3 additional
bits are substracted in the respective static assertion.

With NoRole having no bit in the resolve mask, the following adaptions
have been implemented:
- QPalette::resolve() is adapted to explicitly ignore NoRole.
- QPalette::isBrushSet() always returns false for NoRole.
- tst_QPalette::setAllPossibleBrushes() to verify the latter
- operator== ignores NoRole (documentation updated)

AccentColor is added in tst_QPalette::roleValues and enum documentation
is adapted.

In QPalette's default constructor, the AccentColor brush is defaulting
to the Highlight brush, it this is available. Otherwise it is made 30%
darker or lighter than the Base brush, depending on dark/light mode
heuristics.

QPalette's data stram functions have been extended from QDataStream
Version Qt_6_6. If earlier versions are de-serialised, the AccentColor
defaults to Highlight. An autotest function dataStream() has been added
to tst_QPalette.

The QDataStream Version Qt_6_6 has been bumped to 21.
tst_QDataStream has been adapted to the new version and the new
color Role.

Laszlo Agocs 1dd8b5ceec rhi: Make it a QPA-style private but semi-public API
qrhi.h, qshader.h, qshaderdescription.h (and qshaderbaker.h from
shadertools; done separately) become "RHI APIs", following the concept
of QPA APIs.

Mirror completely what is done for QPA headers, but using the "rhi"
prefix for the headers. This involves updating syncqt to handle the
new category of headers. (a note on the regex: matching everything
starting with "qrhi" is not acceptable due to incorrectly matching
existing and future headers, hence specifying the four header names
explicitly)

There is going to be one difference to QPA: the documentation for
everything RHI is going to be public and part of the regular docs, not
hidden with \internal.

In addition to the header renaming and adding the comments and
documentation notes and warnings, there is one significant change
here: there is no longer a need to do API-specific includes, such as
qrhid3d11[_p].h, qrhivulkan[_p].h, etc. These are simply merged into a
single header that is then included from qrhi.h. This means that users
within Qt, and any future applications can just do #include
<rhi/qrhi.h> (or rhi/qshader.h if the QRhi stuff is not relevant), no
other headers are needed.

There are no changes to functionality in this patch. Only the
documentation is expanded, quite a lot, to eliminate all qdoc warnings
and make the generated API docs complete. An example, with a quite
extensive doc page is added as well.

Add support for shader input output interface blocks in Metal
tessellation pipelines. This feature is builtin to other rhi supported
tessellation backends (OpenGL/Vulkan).

Metal tessellation is implemented as compute pipelines for vert and
tesc, and a render pipeline for tese and frag. The shader conversion
from GLSL is handled by SPIRV-Cross, which has a particular way of doing
things. Rhi must setup the vertex inputs for the tese - frag render
pipeline to read from buffers written by the tesc compute pipeline,
following SPIRV-Cross conventions. This includes ensuring correct
memory alignment per MSL Specification.

In order to enable input output interface blocks, reflection of struct
members of QShaderDescription::InOutVariable is required. Reflection of
QShaderDescription::BuiltinVariable array dimensions is also required to
support variable size tese builtin input gl_ClipDistance.

An acompanying patch to QtShaderTools is required.

Laszlo Agocs 8e27e31649 Add workaround for threeDimTexture case failing with some drivers
Not relevant for the CI as that does not run with any real Vulkan
implementation. (and Lavapipe works if that's used)

As the investigation in the Jira issue shows, there is no proper
conclusion yet on why rendering to a slice of a 3D texture breaks
the content of other slices that have image data written to them
before that render pass targeting the slice. It would seem that
transitioning to COLOR_ATTACHMENT_OPTIMAL has some unexpected
consequences for slices that are not targeted by the render pass
with Mesa on Intel.

(NB rendering to a given 3D texture slice works via
VK_IMAGE_CREATE_2D_ARRAY_COMPATIBLE_BIT; and how often this is needed
in practice is unclear, typical volume rendering cases will anyway
likely just upload data to the slices of a 3D texture, not rendering
to them)

The problem is still clearly visible in the tex3d manual test (when run
on affected Linux machines), this we keep unchanged for the time being
so that the issue can be examined further. However, the autotest is
changed to prevent the issue from occurring (render to slice first,
then upload to other slices) since it causes confusion when the test
is run locally on various developer machines.

Laszlo Agocs 84fb0de413 rhi: Add D3D12 support
- The optional nice-to-haves DebugMarkers, Timestamps, PipelineCache
are not yet implemented (features reported as false, to be
implemented later, although buffer/texture resource name setting
already works as-is, regardless of DebugMarkers).

- Mipmap generation for 3D textures is missing. Won't matter much
given that 3D textures are not used in Qt for anything atm. For
generating mipmaps for 2D (or 2D array) textures, the MiniEngine
compute shader and approach is used. 3D support for the mipmap
generator may be added later. 1D textures / arrays are supported
except for mipmap generation, and so the
OneDimensionalTextureMipmaps feature is reported as false.

- Qt Quick and Qt Quick 3D are expected to be fully functional.
(unforeseen issues are not impossible, of course)

- Uses minimum feature level 11.0 when requesting the device. It is
expected to be functional on resource binding tier 1 hardware even,
although this has not been verified in practice.

- 2 frames in flight with the usual resource buffering
(QRhiBuffer::Dynamic is host visible (UPLOAD) and always mapped and
slotted, other buffers and textures are device local (DEFAULT).
Requests 3 swapchain buffers. Swapchains are mostly like with D3D11
  (e.g. FLIP_DISCARD and SCALING_NONE).

- The root signature generation is somewhat limited by the SPIR-V
binding model and that we need to map every binding point using the
nativeResourceBindingMap from the QShader. Thus the root signature
is laid out so each stage has its own set of resources, with shader
register clashes being prevented by setting the visibility to a
  given stage.

Sampler handling is somewhat suboptimal but we are tied by the
binding model and existing API design. It is in a fairly special
situation due to the 2048 limit on a shader visible sampler heap, as
opposed to 1000000 for SRVs and UAVS, so the approach we use for
textures (just stage the CPU SRVs on the (per-frame slot) shader
visible heap as they are encountered, effectively treating the heap
as a ring buffer) would quickly lead to having to switch heaps many
times with scenes with many draw calls and sampledTexture/sampler
  bindings in the srb.

Whereas static samplers, which would be beautiful, are impossible to
utilize safely since we do not have that concept (i.e. samplers
specified upfront, tied to the graphics/compute pipeline) in the
QRhi API, and an srb used at pipeline creation may change its
associated resources, such as the QRhiSampler reference, by the time
the shader resources are set for the draw call (or another,
compatible srb may get used altogether), so specifying the samplers
at root signature creation time is impossible.

Rather, the current approach is to treat each sampler as a separate
root parameter (per stage) having a descriptor table with a single
entry. The shader visible sampler heap has exactly one instance of
each unique sampler encountered during the lifetime of the QRhi.

- Shader-wise no different from D3D11, works with HLSL/DXBC 5.0
(i.e. existing .qsb files with DXBC in them work as-is). But unlike
D3D11, this one will try to pick 6.7, 6.6, ..., down to 5.0 from the
  QShader, in that order.

- Uses D3D12MA for suballocating. As a result it can report vmem
allocation statistics like the Vulkan backend, and it does more
since the DXGI memory usage (incl. implicit resources) is also
reported. This is optional technically, so we also have the option
of going straight with the heavyweight CreateCommittedResource()
instead. That is what we do if the adapter chosen reports it's
software-based or when QT_D3D_NO_SUBALLOC=1 is set.

- PreferSoftwareRenderer (picking the WARP device) and the env.var.
QT_D3D_ADAPTER_INDEX work as with the D3D11 backend.

- It is not unexpected that with large scenes that generate lots of
draw calls with multiple textures/samplers per call the performance
may be slightly below D3D11 (probably mostly due to descriptor
management). Similarly, the reported memory usage will be higher,
which is partly natural due to creating heaps, descriptor pools,
staging areas, etc. upfront. Will need to be evaluated later how
  these can be tuned.

Eskil Abrahamsen Blomfeldt ca64365e3a Don't hide object replacement char except in rich text
The object replacement character (U+FFFC) is used to represent
inline objects such as images in rich-text. To enable this,
we have special handling of it in QTextEngine. For classes
where inline images are not supported, it will just be hidden
from the visual text, which is unexpected.

Instead of always special-casing it, we make this dependent
on whether the document layout has registered any object handlers.
If they have not, then there will be no visual representation of
the object, and it is better to show the glyph for it.

For anything based on QTextDocument, there will always be the
image handler, so U+FFFC will still have special handling there,
but for non-rich labels and plain text editors the glyph will
be shown instead.

Note that there was also a bug in QLineEdit, where the object
replacement character was always replaced by a space. This was
introduced in 2007, in a patch which replaced a !ch.isPrint()
with a check for "the most obvious non-printable characters"
to reduce the number of characters that were not shown. However,
U+FFFC is a printable character and would thus not have been
filtered by the !isPrint() condition, so I think this was a
mistake at the time. However, due to the special-casing of
the character in Qt, it would not have had any effect until
now.

This also changes the QTextLayout::cursorToXForInlineObject()
test to actually test proper inline objects, as this was
previously using a hack which depended on the inline object
code to be used even for plain QTextLayouts with no handlers
for these.

[ChangeLog][Text] The object replacement character (U+FFFC)
is now only filtered out in rich text controls, where they
represent inline objects. In other controls, its glyphs will
be shown as with other text.

Variant-selectors are special unicode symbols which are used to
modify glyph selection for the preceding character. For instance,
a regular symbol could be turned into a color emoji using VS16,
the emoji variation selector. In order for this to work, however,
the font that handles the selector has to handle the full pair of
characters, so that it can apply the correct substitution rules.

One specific example of this was on macOS, where an airplane
symbol + VS16 would match the symbol to the default UI font but
the VS16 to the emoji font. Since there string provided for the
emoji font did not have any preceding character for VS16, we just
ignored it.

To improve on this, we now detect variation selectors that have
been matched to different font engines than the preceding
character. When such a case occurs, we check if the selector font
also supports the preceding character, and if it does, we keep
the pair together and use the same font for both.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][Text] Fix some cases where a variation-selector
character would be ignored in font selection and the correct

Volker Hilsheimer 12b7eab4d2 Detach event points when cloning pointer events
Input events that originate from actual device interaction should reflect the
device's state, and device and events need to be kept in sync so that event
sequences (such as multi-touch events, where we have begin/update/end cycles
spanning multiple events) are working correctly.

For that reason, the event point data in pointer events is explicitly shared,
and we only detach in exceptional situations. This saves us memory allocations,
and makes sure that the event point data carried by events, and the event point
data stored persistently in the device, are kept in sync.

Cloned pointer events do not originate from device interactions, and should
therefore not sync back to the device. E.g. accepting a clone should not modify
the original event data stored in the device. There are exceptions here as
well, e.g. when cloning an event in Qt in order to deliver a translated version
of it to a different scene. Different points might even get delivered to
different scenes or windows, or at least different items in the same scene. For
that reason, we explicitly detach, and then explicitly write back the relevant
states after the cloned event has been delivered.

But in general, we should assume that cloned events do not write back to the
device. Since QEventPoint is an explicitly shared data type that never detaches
itself, we have to explicitly detach it when making copies that should not be
shared.

The ideal implementation of this would be to do the detach in the copy
constructor of QPointerEvent, which is called when cloning. However, Qt itself
makes copies of QPointerEvent without using clone, e.g. when assembling lists
of touch events for the different subscenes or windows in
QGuiApplicationPrivate::processTouchEvent, where event objects are added to a
QVarLengthArray<QMutableTouchEvent>. This makes copies, and those copies must
not detach.

So we have to implement the special cloning behavior in each override of

Eskil Abrahamsen Blomfeldt c9d991de1f Fix missing text when Harfbuzz fails to shape a substring
This amends fccd419dd6.

If Harfbuzz failed on one of the items in a string and returned
zero glyphs, then we would exit the shaping loop. The mentioned
change fixed a crash related to this when the ignored character
was the only character in the string, but it occurred in a
subitem of a longer string, then we would return and fail to
lay out the rest of the string.

This popped up recently because an update to Harfbuzz has caused
it to return zero glyphs when applying the Apple emoji font to
an isolated variant character (see bug report). When we matched
the symbol to the main font and only the variant character to
the emoji font, we would get in this situation, and end up
exiting the shaping early.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][Text] Fixed a regression which would
sometimes cause text to disappear if the string contained
an unmatched variation selector character.

Eskil Abrahamsen Blomfeldt 0dcd640a1f Don't return a visual glyph for ignorable characters
When Harfbuzz returns zero glyphs, this will typically be because
the character is ignored. We currently have no way to differentiate
this from actual error cases, so to avoid return the error glyph
for cases which are not really errors, we set the dontPrint flag
for this.

When we add a way to differentiate between error cases and non-error
cases later, we should revert this for the actual errors.

This is improved version of previous fix
013c346a8d that was reverted because it
broke some tests for Quick Text. The problem was that it did not work
correctly in the case the text was wrapped to a fixed width.
To deal with this we'll accumulate current line full width (as if it
hadn't been wrapped) in layout data (layoutData->currentMaxWidth).
Then when the next line is explicitly wrapped by line or paragraph
separator, this accumulated width will be used to adjust layout's
maximum width.

Volker Hilsheimer 649dccf57b Reintroduce converter APIs for supporting native clipboard formats
In Qt 5, QWin(dows)Mime and QMacMime lived in the respective Extras
modules, which were removed and partially folded into the relevant
modules in Qt. QWindowsMime and QMacMime continued to provide the
abstraction for implementing built-in support for native clipboard
formats and UTIs within Qt, but only as private APIs.

After the recent clean up of those APIs and respective infrastructure,
we can now bring them back as public converter interfaces. Application
developers can subclass those and instantiate an instance of their
implementation to add support for platform or application specific
data formats.

These interfaces are not in the QNativeInterface namespace, as
applications don't call into Windows or macOS using those interfaces.
I.e. there is no class on which an application would call

  auto *converter= nativeInterface<QWindowsMimeConverter>();

Also, since applications override those converter types, we do want to
guarantee binary and source compatibility.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][QWindowsMimeConverter] Reintroduced to allow
applications to add support for conversion from and to Windows-native
clipboard formats to MIME-encoded data.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][QUtiMimeConverter] Reintroduced to allow
applications to add support for conversion from and to clipboard data on
