On Windows, the detection changes only by inserting the use of the
environment variable before the existing tests and removing the check on
stderr.
This commit adds logic similar to Windows's: if the application has a
controlling TTY, we'll use stderr. Otherwise, we'll use the system log.
This is technically a change in behavior: previously, we would always
use the system log, unless the environment variable told us not to.
In practice, the behavior doesn't really change: Android and BlackBerry
and systemd-spawned applications are launched with no controlling TTY,
so logging will go to their logging systems.

thread-local variables are known to be broken on Windows XP if the
library is loaded dynamically. This has been fixed since Windows Vista,
but to avoid any elaborate runtime checking of the OS version we're just
removing the logic alltogether for MSVC / Windows.

Export the former qMessageFormatString() as qFormatLogMessage(). This
allows custom message handlers to format their messages just like the
default message handler, taking qSetMessagePattern() /
QT_MESSAGE_PATTERN into account.
The method should arguably not add the '\n' at the end, which a follow
up commit will fix.

The setting of (static) messageHandler to qDefaultMessageHandler if null
was happening in multiple threads simultaneously, so it needs synchronization.
Used an atomic pointer in case qInstallMessageHandler is called from a thread,
but more importantly, initialized the static vars right away.
Improve auto test to ensure that qInstallMessageHandler(0) still sets the
default message handler.

We duplicate quite some code here in an attempt to still print
messages, even in OOM situations. However, we've in general given up
on handling OOM exceptions gracefully in Qt: On modern systems
you hardly reach the point of not being able to allocate (smaller)
chunks in the first place, since the system will usually overcommit,
or bring the system to halt by heavy paging.
In 7cafb62538 we removed already similar logic in QDebug
class.

Introduced a new environment variable "QT_LOGGING_TO_CONSOLE".
When set on QNX for instance, log output is directed to the console
instead of slog2. This can be more convenient when working on the
command line. Besides, many declarative auto tests expect that,
as well.
Marked QT_NO_JOURNALD_LOG and QT_ANDROID_PLAIN_LOG as deprecated,
to be replaced with QT_LOGGING_TO_CONSOLE.

Use the custom field QT_CATEGORY to store the name of the QLoggingCategory used
when writing to systemd's journal. To pass custom fields sd_journal_send() is
needed, and is used in combination with #define SD_JOURNAL_SUPPRESS_LOCATION to
store the metadata that is already in the QMessageLogContext.

If the user code installs a message handler that uses
any API that prints logs (handled by qt_message_print)
then this will lead to an infinite loop.
This patch adds a thread local storage to check
if the message handler is done before the thread
is calling it again.
Note: This check is performed only if the compiler
supports thread_local (__declspec(thread) for MSVC).

Add support for using qCDebug and friends in the 'printf style' way.
This allows an almost mechanical conversion of existing qDebug, qWarning,
qCritical macros, and allows avoiding the size overhead the streaming
style incurs (mostly due to inlined QDebug code).
To handle this gracefully we require variadic macros (part of
C++11/C99). For compilers not supporting variadic macros we fall back
to checking the category in QMessageLogger.

Instead of merely intercepting logging output from stdout/stderr from the
journal side of started processes, this has the advantage of meaning that the
origin process name will be correct.
fprintf won't work, because if a process starts children (like e.g. a
homescreen does), then their stdout/stderr are merged into their parent, and
journal has no way of differentiating the origin.
We are also able to store information about the context of logging, which might
be useful in post-mortem cases.
[ChangeLog][Platform Specific Changes][Linux] Systems with systemd may now pass
-journald to configure to send logging output to journald. Logging will still be
sent to stderr for interactive applications (run from a tty) or with
QT_NO_JOURNALD_LOG set to a non-empty value.

Avoid piping the test output to both the Windows system debugger, and
stdout. This fixes duplicate output in Qt Creator, which displays messages
from both sources.

Change the default output of the logging framework to prefix messages
with a 'category: ' in case the category is not "default", so that e.g.
QLoggingCategory cat("qt.core.codes.windows");

This avoids crashes in case where qWarning() would be called from a
global static deleted after the one holding the default category. I
encountered this case with a QLockFile locked from a global static while
the application quits, it was calling qAppName which was triggering a
qWarning as the qapplication object was gone too.

qt_message, in the regular case, calls qt_message_print, which invokes the
default message handler (qDefaultMessageHandler), which uses
qMessageFormatString to construct a string, and then platform-dependent methods
to print this out. This means that qMessageFormatString's newline is the one
that separates debug messages.
Unfortunately, in the emergency case, we don't have this luxury of doing
formatting: so just make sure to add a newline so output is readable.

The motivation is to enable coloration the way KDE currently does.
It can now be achieved with a QT_MESSAGE_OUTPUT set to
"%{appname}(%{category}) \033[31m%{if-debug}\033[34m%{endif}%{function}\033[0m: %{message}"
I was thinking about supporting directly color using something like
%{begin-category-color} that would be smart and detect if we are running
on a terminal, but it would be less flexible in the way the colors van
be configured.

QDoc supports \relates in the context of a function that
relates to an existing class or a namespace, but not in the context
of a class. We can use \sa to list the related classes or namespaces
for a class instead.
This change ensures that QDoc generates documentation for QMessageLogger
and QMessageLogContext classes.

OutputDebugString seems indeed to be thread safe, at least according
to http://www.unixwiz.net/techtips/outputdebugstring.html . I also didn't
manage to run into any deadlocks on Windows 7 ...

QDoc doesn't supported nested tags, and there doesn't seem to be
any way to trick it into thinking you've mentioned the argument
(\omit didn't work), so actually rephrasing is the only way to
kill the warning. Also add a const modifier to a signature to
make it match the declaration.

Commit 6e6b74c0 introduced heap allocation in the form of
QString::fromLatin1().utf16() into qEmergencyOut(), a function
that's called in OOM situations and in cases where another
exception is still in flight.
Luckily, QString::fromLatin1().utf16() is just a funny way of
copying an array of chars into an array of wchar_ts, so we do
that manually now and use a static wchar_t buffer. While at it,
also throw text elision into the mix.
This commit also fixes the message passed to _CrtDbgReportW().
What should be displayed is the emergency_buf, not the format
string.
Also remove a similar allocation in qt_message_output().

In particular, qEmergencyOut() is now completely exception-free.
Incidentally, this patch shows that Qt isn't consistent in how it
treats empty environment variables used as flags, but that is something
for a separate commit. This patch aims to be behaviour-preserving,
except in exceptional circumstances, of course.

These functions are not supposed to return, not even by exception.
qt_message() _can_ throw, but we're fine with the compiler calling
std::terminate() then, since the backtrace will still include the
assertion location.
This behaviour is ensured by a new macro, QT_TERMINATE_ON_EXCEPTION,
which expands to something like
try { expr; } catch(...) { std::terminate(); }
if the compiler doesn't support Q_DECL_NOEXCEPT (but maybe
Q_DECL_NOTHROW), and to something like just
expr;
otherwise (including in the QT_NO_EXCEPTION case).
The real macro preserves scopes in all cases, and aims
to work even if <exception> isn't included in the TU it's used in,
so is a little bit more complex than that.

Add qSetMessagePattern() to configure the default
message pattern. This one can still be overwritten by setting the
QT_MESSAGE_PATTERN environment variable.
Without this method, there's actually no way to change the
default output programatically. Since QT_MESSAGE_PATTERN is
evaluated when the first message arrives, setting it via e.g. qputenv
might have no effect/be too late.

char *: This avoids converting to local8bit , only to convert it back
to utf16 for Windows.
The old QMessageHandler is kept for a transition period, but will
be removed before Qt 5.0.
Also fix qEmergencyOut (that is called in OOM situations) to not rely

don't return, it can assume in the code after the Q_ASSERT that the
condition was true.
MSVC is the exception: with MSVC, we have the CrtDbgReport dialog,
which allows the developer to continue execution, inside the
debugger. Therefore, we can't mark any of those functions as
non-returning because they can, after all, return.
Unfortunately, the Q_ASSERT usually expands to no code in release
mode, so the improvement in code generation happens in debug mode
only...

This change fixes most qdoc errors in QtCore. There are about 900 left.
The main thing this change does is moving documentation from qtcore from
/doc/src to /src/corelib/doc.
Other issues resolved are mis-use of qdoc commands.

Move the documentation for qDebug, qWarning, qCritical, qFatal,
QMessageHandler, QtMsgHandler, qtInstallMsgHandler,
qInstallMessageHandler from qlogging.cpp to qglobal.cpp. For some
reason it's not picked up from qlogging.cpp otherwise.
Also, tweak the output so that e.g. qDebug and friends are correctly
listed as macros.

QDoc now has support for Doxygen style commands for italics, bold
and list items. This change applies that change in QDoc to the
actual documentation.

Check the QT_OUTPUT_PATTERN environment variable in the default
message handler to customize the output of messages. Following
place holders are right now supported:
%{message}, %{type}, %{file}, %{line}, %{function}
The original cleanupFuncinfo was written by Thiago Macieira.

Record the file, line, and function where a qDebug, qWarning, qCritical
or qFatal call happens, and make this information available in a custom
message handler.
The patch uses the C preprocessor to replace qDebug, qWarning, ... with
a line that also records the current file, line, and function. Custom
message handlers can access this information via a new QMessageLogContext
argument.
