name to match, and in my experience that is also true for the vast
majority of out-of-tree users.
Avoid the temporary QString creation in the caller and the repeated
QString::isNull() checks in the implementation by overloading
findChildren() without a name argument and checking for name.isNull()
only once, forking off into separate helper functions.
Adjust in-tree callers that used an explicit `QString()` argument in
order to pass options, which goes to show that `name` should never
have been the first argument of findChilden() in the first place, even
though I appreciate the symmetry with findChild() (the use-cases of
which, however, are radically different).
Change a `findChildren().size() == 0` call found while scanning for
findChildren() calls to `!findChild()` as a drive-by.
Modernize loops in the various qt_qFindChild{,ren}_helper() overloads

Since we changed binding evaluation to be always eager, we notify and
evaluate all bindings as soon as any dependency changes. This includes
bindings which have been initially installed on a property, but which
were later removed.
With lazy evaluation, we would only notify those bindings and mark them
as dirty, which is unproblematic. With eager evalution, we attempt to
evaluate the binding, though. While that part is still fine, afterwards
we would attempt to write the new value into the property. However,
there is no property at that point, as the binding is not installed.
Instead of adding a check whether the propertydataptr is null, we skip
the reevaluation completely by removing the bindings observers - and
thus the cause for the binding function's reevaluation. As soon as the
binding is set, we reevaluate the function anyway, at which point we
also capture the observers again.

This does not diminish other benefits of the new property system, which

This function returns the metatype corresponding to the metaobject, or
an invalid metatype for namespaces.
This works as follows: First we increment the metaobject revision for
new metaobjects. Metaobjects with older revisions are handled by doing a
lookup by name. That fallback is also used for dynamic metaobjects (from
QtDBUS and those created by QMetaObjectBuilder).
For new metaobjects, we store the metatype in its metatype array, behind
the property metatypes. This avoids any changes to the property and
method metatype extraction logic: For properties, the metatype access
does not change, as the new metatype is after their metatypes. For
method metatypes, we already have an indirection layer (using offsets),
so by adjusting those offsets by one, the same logic keeps working.
To distinguish between namespaces and dynamic metaobjects, namespaces
store the metatypeinterface pointer for void in the metatype array,
whereas dynamic metaobjects store a nullptr.
One nice additional benefit is that this simplifies the generator logic
in moc, as the metatype array is now never empty.

There may be a race where e.g. thread 'B' is woken up by a queued invoke.
At the same time thread 'A' asks 'B' to quit, which will set various
atomics (some important ones are 'interrupt' in the dispatcher and
'exit' in the event loop), but it does _not_ try to send another wake
since there is already an unhandled wake triggered by 'B' itself.
Sadly 'B' reads the 'exit' atomic before 'A' updates it.
Then, slightly before, 'B' sets 'interrupt' back to 0, 'A' write 1 to
it, meaning 'A's interrupt is ignored. Then, since there is no
interrupt, 'B' goes back to waiting for events, leaving the thread alive
and running instead of quitting.
Maybe this has unforeseen consequences (one consequence is that it will
return and re-enter the event dispatcher once more, possible
unnecessarily)

this. As a consequence, the metatype system can now convert between
const and non-const pointers to QObject. Note that this allows casting
const away; but so does C++ with const_cast.
In addition, a new flag, QMetaType::IsImmutable is introduced, and used
to tag the metatypes of pointer to const types. This allows code to
discern between pointers to mutable and const QObjects, which is

std::optional<int> is the wrong datatype to use for compare.
First and foremost, it can't be used in the idiomatic form of
auto r = a.compare(b);
if (r < 0) ~~~ // a is less than b
if (r > 0) ~~~ // a is greater than b
which we *already* feature in Qt (QString, QByteArray).
Also, std::optional<int> (explicitly) converts to bool, which is
a trap, because the result of the comparison can be accidentally
tested as a bool:
if (a.compare(b)) ~~~ // oops! does NOT mean a<b
Not to mention extending this to algorithms:
auto lessThan = [](QVariant a, QVariant b) { return a.compare(b); }; // oops!
std::ranges::sort(vectorOfVariants, lessThan);
which thankfully doesn't compile as is -- std::optional has
an *explicit* operator bool, and the Compare concept requires an
implicit conversion. However, the error the user is going to face
will be "cannot convert to bool because the operator is explicit",
which is deceiving because the fix is NOT supposed to be:
auto lessThan = [](QVariant a, QVariant b) { return (bool)a.compare(b); }; // big oops!
Instead: backport to Qt the required subset of C++20's <compare>
API, and use that. This commits just adds the necessary parts
for compare() (i.e. partial ordering), the rest of <compare>
(classes, functions, conversions) can be added to 6.1.

This was so far problematic as it gave various link errors. The solution
to that seems to be to make the default constructor of QPairVariantInterfaceImpl
constexpr to get around one set of problems.
The other problem to solve where undefined references to metaobjects. The
reason for that is apparently that QMetaTypeInterface contains a direct
pointer to the meta object, something the linker doesn't like. Adding a
level of indirection by using a function that returns the pointer seems
to solve that problem.

std::function as a type is rather unfortunate for us, as its SSO buffer
makes it rather large, and we can ensure that the function is never
empty.
Considering that we do need to allocate memory for
QPropertyBindingPrivate anyway, we can get rid of the SSO buffer and
instead coalesce the allocations (similar to how std::make_shared works).
The memory looks then like
[--QPropertyBindingPrivate--][Functor]
and QPropertyBindingPrivate can get a pointer to the functor via
reinterpret_cast<std::byte>(this)+sizeof(QPropertyBindingPrivate).
To actually do anything with the functor, we do however need a "vtable"
which describes how we can call, destroy and move the functor. This is
done by creating a constexpr struct of function pointers, and storing a
pointer to it in QPropertyBindingPrivate.
As a consequence of those changes, we cannot use QESDP anymore, as we
now have to carefully deallocate the buffer we used for both the
QPropertyBindingPrivate and the functor. We introduce a custom
refcounting pointer for that. While we're at it, we make the refcount
non-atomic, as bindings do not work across threads to begin with.
Moreover, we can now make the class non-virtual, as that was only needed
to hack around limitations of QESDP in the context of exported symbols.

to measure the accuracy of more precise timer's interval.
In addition, the checked range for remainingTime (50, 200)
was probably wrong, since by definition it couldn't be more than 150,
as we started the timer with interval of 200 and waited at least 50.
In this fix we have additional "tester" timer to measure remainingTime
of "tested" timer. The "tester" is a singleShot timer with interval of
50, and is started together with "tested" timer. Whenever the "tested"
timer timeouts, it restarts the "tester" timer - this is done desired
number of times (2 by default, like in the original test).
The test itself lies now inside tester's lambda. We fix the tested
range (at least 1, no more than 150). The minimum value could in

If one needed to listen to a signal just once, one had to
store the QMetaObject::Connection object returned by connect()
and use it to disconnect the slot after the first signal
activation.
This has led to a proliferation of using wrappers (and enough
TMP); they usually look like this:
1) create a shared_ptr<QMO::Connection>, allocating its payload;
2) create a lambda, capturing the shared_ptr by value;
3) in the lambda, disconnect the connection (through the shared_ptr),
and call the actual slot;
4) connect the signal to the lambda, storing the returned
QMO::Connection into the shared_ptr.
This is expensive, error prone for newcomers, and tricky to
support as a general facility inside one's projects.
We can do better, just support single shot connections right
in QObject.
[ChangeLog][QtCore][QObject] Added the Qt::SingleShotConnection
flag. When a connection is established with this flag set,
the slot is going to be activated at most once; when the signal

dependency for any Qt consumer.
To mimic that in CMake, we check if the thread feature is enabled, and
and set the Threads::Threads library as a dependency of Qt6::Platform,
which is a public target used by all Qt modules and plugins and Qt
consumers.
We also need to create a Qt6Dependencies.cmake file so we
find_package(Threads) every time find_package(Qt6) is called.
For the .prl files to be usable, we have to filter out some
CMake implementation specific directory separator tokens
'CMAKE_DIRECTORY_ID_SEP' aka '::@', which are added because we call
target_link_libraries() with a target created in a different scope
(I think).
As a result of this change, we shouldn't have to hardcode

Something to establish is where to put the
QExplictlySharedDataPointer replcement that is in there as an
ad-hoc solution. There's a number of patches in-flight by Marc

Miscellanea changes to the Q(Multi)Map code itself:
* consistently use size_type instead of int;
* pass iterators by value;
* drop QT_STRICT_ITERATORS;
* iterators implictly convert to const_iterators, and APIs
take const_iterators;
* iterators are just bidirectional and not random access;
* added noexcept where it makes sense;
* "inline" dropped (churn);
* qMapLessThanKey dropped (undocumented, 0 hits in Qt, 1 hit in KDE);
* operator== on Q(Multi)Map requires operator== on the key type
(we're checking for equality, not equivalence!).
Very few breakages occur in qtbase.
[ChangeLog][Potentially Source-Incompatible Changes] QMap does not

This gives less porting pain for our users, and a lot less churn
in our API, as we use QList in Qt 5 in 95% of our API.
In addition, it gives more consistent naming with QStringList and
QByteArrayList and disambiguates QList vs QVector(2|3|4)D.

There is no reason for keep using our macro now that we have C++17.
The macro itself is left in for the moment being, as well as its
detection logic, because it's needed for C code (not everything
supports C11 yet). A few more cleanups will arrive in the next few
patches.
Note that this is a mere search/replace; some places were using
double braces to work around the presence of commas in a macro, no
attempt has been done to fix those.
tst_qglobal had just some minor changes to keep testing the macro.

Make QPair an alias for std::pair, and qMakePair just a forwarder
towards std::make_pair.
Why? Fundamentally to ditch a bunch of NIH code; gain for free
structured bindings, std::tuple and std::reference_wrapper
compatibility, and so on.
Breakages:
* Some that code manually forward declares QPair.
We don't care about it (<QContainerFwd> is the proper way).
* Some code that overloads on std::pair and QPair. Luckily
it's mostly centralized: debug, metatypes, testing macros.
Just remove the QPair overload.
* Usages of qMakePair forcing the template type parameters.
There are a handful of these in qtbase, but only one was actually
broken.
* std::pair is NOT (and will never likely be) trivially copiable.
This is agreed to be a mistake done by practically all implementations
in C++11, can can't be fixed without breaking ABI.
Some code using QPair assuming it's trivially copiable may break;
exactly one occurrence was in qtbase.
* QMetaType logic extracts the type names in two different ways,
one by looking at the source code string (e.g. extracted by moc)
and one via some ad-hoc reflection in C++. We need to make
"QPair" (as spelled in the source code) be the same as "std::pair"
(gathered via reflection, which will see through the alias)
when compared. The way it's already done e.g. for QList is
by actually replacing the moc-extracted name with the name
of the actual type used in C++; do the same here.
On libc++, std::pair is actually in an inline namespace --
i.e. std::__1::pair; the reflection will extract and store
"std::__1::pair" so we need an ad-hoc fix to QMetaType.
[ChangeLog][QtCore][QPair] QPair is now an alias to std::pair,
and does not exist as a class in Qt any more. This may break
code such as functions overloaded for both QPair and std::pair.
Usually, the overload taking a QPair can be safely discarded,
leaving only the one taking a std::pair. QPair API has not changed,
and qMakePair is still available for compatibility (although
new code is encouraged to use std::pair and std::make_pair
directly instead).

This does the analog of 46f407126e for the
methods we care about (signals, slots, Q_INVOKABLEs). In addition to the
actual QMetaType, we store an array with offsets so that we later can do
a mapping from methodIndex to metatype.
The newly added QMetaMethod::{return,parameter}MetaType methods can then
be used to retrieve the metatypes.
This does however require that all involved types are complete. This is
unfortunately not a feasible requirement. Thus, we only populate the
metatype array on a best effort basis. For any incomplete type, we store
QMetaType::Unknown. Then, when accessing the metatype, we fall back to
the old string based code base if it's Unknown.

A common pattern in Qt Quick will be QProperty members that are
connected to a callback that needs to perform something when the value
changes, for example emitting a compatibility signal or marking scene
graph node data dirty.
To make such a pattern more efficient, a new QNotifiedProperty type is
introduced that offers the same API as QProperty<T>, with two changes:
(1) The template instantiation not only takes the property type as
parameter but also a callback pointer-to-member.
(2) Since that member itself cannot be called without an instance
and to avoid storing an instance pointer permanently, the API for
setBinding and setValue are adjusted to also take the instance
pointer. For the former it gets stored in the binding, for the
latter it is used to invoke the callback after setting the new
value.
