This is a partial revert of a4e2f2e687.
That fix tried to avoid the risk of a crash in pixel() by ensuring
Mono QImages created with external data also got a default color
table. However, that broke usable behavior in existing code that was
painting in Mono QImages using color0/color1.
This commit reverts to the old behavior, and instead expands on the
checking in pixel() so that lacking color table is handled gracefully
for all indexed formats.

Avoid all inplace modification of images using external data
buffers. Since the QImage methods are documented to create a

This routine is often called to down-convert pixmaps and backing
stores to RGB32.
This patch replaces a comparison in each pixel, with a single AND in
each pixel and a comparison at each line. The new form is also auto-
vectorized by at least GCC.

QImage::pixel() assumed that the color table was valid
for the values in the bitmap. This was always wrong
for indexed images with explicit no color table set and
was wrong for mono images that were constructed from
preexisting data.
For mono images, we default to a black/white color table,
like we do when constructing with uninitialized data.
For indexed image, we always default to no color table,
but instead of crashing in pixel(), we warn and return
an undefined value.

If the image was unable to do the smooth scaling due to running out of
memory then it will return a null QImage, so this should be checked before

We depend on being able to punch holes in the backing store when
integrating with FBO elements. To do that we need a format with an alpha
channel. This was only working previously because RGB32 didn't mask when
filling or when converting to ARGB32_PM, but other formats didn't.
Also unifies the logic for getting alpha versions of QImage formats.

QColor always uses unpremultiplied alpha, but the new QImage methods
were based on the QRgb versions which might be either. This patches fixes
the two new methods so they treat QColor alpha correctly.

Calling constScanLine() is an extra function call, just for doing
"data + y * width". Also, we are checking d again, even though we
already know it's there.
The constScanLine() call is responsible for up to 15% of the total
CPU time spent in pixel().

Work around QPaintDevice::metric's int return type
by adding a new metric that returns a scaled devicePixelRatio.
Choose a scale factor that gives us more than enough
range.
The QPaintDevice::devicePixelRatio() convenience accessor
is public API and can unfortunately not be changed
to return a qreal. Add devicePixelRatioF() which
returns the (unscaled) devicePixelRatio.
Change all call sites of QPaintDevice::devicePixelRatio()
to use QPainDevice::devicePixelRatioF().

Make it possible to read images with EXIF orientation automatically
applied. This was originally implemented without opt-out in Qt 5.4, but
reverted. Here it is implemented as opt-in for JPEG, and opt-out for TIFF
to keep behavioral consistency.
The EXIF support for JPEG was written by Rainer Keller.

QImageReader to enable automatic application of EXIF orientation.
This behavior was default in Qt 5.4.1, but reverted in Qt 5.4.2.

The QImage inplace mirroring method, failed to handle the middle line
when mirroring both ways (rotate 180). In both other mirroring cases
the middle can be left untouched, but in this case it needs to be
mirrored half way.
To make the logic simpler, double mirroring will now mirror half the
lines instead of half of every line.

Some tests were failing because the color was not read correctly from
a QImage. To make it possibly to read more accurate colors a pixel
accessor returing QColor has been added.
Some tests also had the wrong order of arguments, confusing dest and src
formats. This has been corrected, so they test what they claim to test.
A test for RGB30 linear gradients is also added.

This patch updates the internal color precisions of solids and
gradients to 16bit per color. This makes it possible to render
at higher precision on non-premultiplied ARGB32, the RGB30
formats and any other hi-color formats if more are added.

There are many direct QImage conversions that doesn't need to be direct
but only are because they are faster than the generic conversion. This
patch optimizes the generic conversions and then removes all the direct
conversions that are now no faster than the generic.

QImage::transformed compensates for unwanted translation. This compensation
is performed in "pixel space". However, a possible code path to perform the
transformation uses QPainter which is devicePixelRatio-aware and expects the
transformation matrix to be in logical coordinates.
For example, image.transformed(QTransform().rotate(45)) will result in
cropped out image if devicePixelRatio == 2.

Changes some switches on QImage::Format that needed to be updated

Extend the QImage format with two 8-bit grayscale and alpha formats.
These formats have the advantage over Indexed8 that they have simpler
conversion and can be rendered to by the raster engine.

The color table is passed by value (good for C++11), so when
the argument is assigned to the member variable, that's a good
spot for a move assignment.
However, the argument is also declared const.
The standard says that top-level const is ignored, but some
compilers (I know about SunCC) think differently, so we cannot
remove it.
Instead, we do a const_cast. It is well-defined: Even though
apparently the argument was declared as const, the standard
says the const is not there, and no sane compiler would put
the argument copy into read-only memory.
Add a reminder to remove the top-level const from the
signature come Qt 6.

QImage::invertPixels may produce invalid data after inversions of
images with premultiplied alpha, because the inverted colors will be
larger than the alpha.
This patch converts any image with a premultiplied alpha channel to
ARGB32 before inverting the pixels, and then back to the original
format after the inversion.
Support is added for correct inversion of RGBA8888 and RGB30 formats.

Adds basic support for 10-bit per color channel formats to QImage
and the XCB plugin. This will make it possible to paint to and from
these formats, but only at 8-bit per color channel accuracy.
This also fixes Qt5 applications on X11 with native 30bit depth.

QImage::fill(uint) was incorrectly performing ARGB->RGBA conversion when
called on RGBA8888 formated images.
This patch moves the color conversion to QImage::fill(QColor) where it
belongs so that fill(uint) can behave consistent with documentation and
how it treats other formats.
The fill(uint) method had no automated tests, and this patch adds one.
[ChangeLog][QtGui][QImage] QImage::fill(uint) now fills the given pixel
value unconverted when used on RGBA8888 image, making it consistent with
the documentation and treatment of all other image formats.

This patch optimizes the unpremultiply method further by using a
lookup table to avoid any divisions at all.
The opportunity is taken to export both premultiply and unpremultiply
since they are commonly used methods relevant to the exported QRgb type
that can be both premultiplied and unpremultipled ARGB.

Currently QImage::pixel() returns the raw underlying pixel values for
RGB32. For all other pixel formats the returned value is either valid
ARGB32 or ARGB32PM.
This patch masks the undefined alpha field in RGB32 so that the return
value is well defined QRgb. It also fixes one test that relied on the
previous behavior.

The recent split of qimage.cpp meant mirror_horizonal_bitmap had
to access the bitflip array using a function call. The function call
was placed in the inner loop, but should have been moved out of the loop
as it can not be inlined.

The generic converter can easily be modified to work inplace. Such
an inplace converter can ensure we can do direct conversion between
formats of similar pixel depth.
Inplace conversion is currently only used by QPixmaps, but will be used
by ref qualified versions of QImage::convertToFormat in a future patch.

Currently if the converter_map does not have an entry for how to
do a direct conversion, the image is first converted to ARGB32 and
then to the final format. In most cases the conversion to ARGB32 is
the generic converter which convert over ARGB32PM, which mean the data
is converted to ARGB32PM then to ARGB32, then to ARBG32PM and then to
final format.
This patch uses the generic converter directly everywhere there isn't
an optimized converter declared and it is valid.

A large part of qimage.cpp is the implementation of the various
conversions methods from one format to another. These methods could all
be moved to a separate file to make qimage.cpp smaller, and possible
later enable more aggressive optimization on the conversions.

This feature was never completely implemented. Sure, it's nice to
build the SSE2 + SSSE3 code with the VEX prefix, which results in
better code. But the leap isn't that big anyway.
This is the first step to removing the runtime detection for the
drawhelpers. They create timebombs when we use inline functions.

this leads to the possibility of accessing outside of the array, and

Previously QPainter computed the devicePixelRatio
based on the physical and logical dpi, and expected
that the ratio between them would be either 1x or
2x.
This was problematic for paint devices like printers
where the physical dpi can be much higher than the
logical dpi, and also for QScreen where the physical
dpi would have to be defined as a multiple of the
logical dpi.
Add QPaintDevice::PdmDevicePixelRatio and QPaintDevice::
devicePixelRatio() getter and implement it for the
QPaintDevice subclasses. Use it when calculating the
highdpi scale transform in qpainter.cpp and when scaling
the clip rect in qwidget.cpp.
Remove physical dpi scaling for QImage, QPixmap and
QOpenGLPaintDevice, reverting to the old behavior.

Revert to the pre highdpi-patch behaviour.
Before, both physical and logical DPI would be based
on the dpmx/dpmy variables, which could be changed
with setDotsPerMeter(). The highdpi patch introduced
separate ldpmx/ldpmy variables, which were not
changed by setDotsPerMeter().
This broke when loading images: setDotsPerMeter
would be called but the logical dpi would not change.
Remove ldpmx/ldpmy. Keep scaling the physical dpi
by the devicePixelRatio, which will be set to 1 by
default.

Bring Qt 5 on par with Qt 4, prepare for more comprehensive
support later on.
Introduce device independent pixels (dips), device pixels,
and devicePixelRatio. Add high-dpi support to QPainter,
QGLWidget, the cocoa platform plugin, mac and fusion styles.
Dips are similar to CSS pixels, Apple points and
Android density-independent pixels. Device pixels
are pixels in the backing store/physical pixels on screen.
devicePixelRatio is the ratio between them, which is
1.0 on standard displays and 2.0 on "retina" displays.
New API:
QImage::devicePixelRatio() and setDevicePixelRatio()
QPixmap::devicePixelRatio() and setDevicePixelRatio()
QWindow::devicePixelRatio()
QScreen::devicePixelRatio()
QGuiApplicaiton::devicePixelRatio()

This guarantees one will never get `!img.isNull()` after
load()/loadFromData() has failed, even if the image was
not null before.

When a documented function is global, it must be related
to a namespace or class, or its documentation won't be
included anywhere.
When a documented function is a class member, the function
signature in the \fn command must include the class name
qualifier, e.g. QImage::isValid(), not just isValid()

First, check that the option in question hasn't been already enabled
by the compiler, via compiler switches. If it has been, then we don't
need to verify anything, and we can assume that it's safe to use such
instructions. For example, on an x86-64 build, qCpuHasFeature(SSE2) is
always a constant true.
If the compile-time check fails, then we proceed to try and detect the
processor features at runtime. But instead of insisting on a call to
qDetectCPUFeatures, allow the code using the detection to read from a
variable and simply test it for values. Only if the variable isn't
initialised should it make a function call. The Q_ASSUME allows this
code to be very efficient even with multiple uses of qCpuHasFeature.
Change the uninitialised value from -1 to 0 so that simpler
instructions can be used to check for non-initialisation.
The qDetectCPUFeatures function is renamed to qDetectCpuFeatures to
match the Qt coding style and also to catch uses this code that need
to be adapted.

The QT_HAVE_xxx macros are replaced with QT_COMPILER_SUPPORTS_xxx.
They indicate that the compiler supports those intrinsics, but not
necessarily that they can be used right now.
ICC and MSVC allow one to use the intrinsics anywhere, but for Qt all
uses of the intrinsics are either in specially-built files, protected
by runtime checks, or they are unconditional (qstring.cpp). So we only
use the intrinsics when the compiler was instructed to generate code
for that instruction set anyway.

The main reasons for doing this are:
1. _qpa.h end up in the master QtGui include file. QtGui is meant for
userland applications. qpa code is neither binary nor source compatible.
Inadvertant use of QPA api makes the user code binary-incompatible.
2. syncqt creates forwarding headers for non-private header files. This
gives people the impression that this is public API.
As discussed on the mailing list, even though QPA api is internal and subject
to change, it needs to treated differently from private headers since they
will be used by in-qtbase and out-of-qtbase plugins.
This commit does the following:
1. The _qpa in QPA header files is dropped.
2. syncqt now treats any file with qplatform prefix as a special file and
moves it to qpa/ directory. The recommended way of using QPA API in plugins
is: #include <qpa/qplatformfoo.h>. This allows the user include QPA API
from multiple modules (for example, qplatformfoo might be in QtPrintSupport)
3. The user needs to explicitly add QT += <module>-private to get access to
the qpa api.
4. Creates compat headers for the olden style qplatformfoo_qpa.h and QPlatformFoo
includes.
This commit does not change the cpp filenames. This requires a more careful
merging of existing non qpa cpp files and existing cpp files on a case by
case basis. This can be done at anytime.

Required changes for using shared graphics cache for distance field
raster glyph rendering. Most of the logic is in platform plugins.
Platform plugins should implement
QPlatformIntegration::createImagePaintEngine() to create a subclass

A QImage can be constructed with a provided buffer, that has to be
kept alive for the live-time of the QImage and all its copies.
Frameworks like CoreGraphics or Cairo offer a similar method of
creating image objects and also offer the ability to provide a callback
function that is called when the image is destroyed.
This patch adds this functionality to QImage by extending the
QImage constructors that take a raw image buffer pointer.

Since FreeType has internal caching, it has had a special
code path in the raster engine which avoided using Qt's glyph
cache, as that would be redundant. However, when compiling
with QPA, we want the same behavior without being able to
access the QFontEngineFT class. To achieve this, I've made
a new abstraction and added it to QFontEngine which allows
the FT engine to provide direct pointers into the alpha maps
stored by FT. This requires a locking/unlocking mechanism.
Yes, the QFontEngine::alphaMap* API is slowly becoming a horrible
mess, but due to time constraints, the task of refactoring these
functions into a more flexible API needs to wait. I've added a
TODO comment for this.
