Lars Knoll c0e1a38f69 Remove the special code for emplaceFront/Back again
emplace() itself now handles those cases fast enough, so there
should not be a need to add special code paths for those methods.

Lars Knoll 168772fe8f Remove destructor calls from insert()
QList::insert() should never need to call a destructor. This
requires that we construct the new items in the list in order
and increment the size each time we constructed a new item.

Not having a code path that potentially calls destructors should
avoid the generation of lots of additional code for those
operations. In addition, the forward and backwards code paths
are now unified and only require somewhat different setup of
some variables at the start.

This gives us strong exception safety when appending one item,
weak exception safety in all other cases (in line with std::vector).

Lars Knoll 621c05e3b1 Don't allow storing types that throw in the destructor in our containers
Types that throw in their destructors are strongly discouraged in C++,
and even the STL doesn't define what happens if such types are stored
in their containers.

Make this more explicit for Qt and disallow storing those types in our
containers. This will hopefully preempty any potential future bug
reports about us not handling such a case. It also helps simplify
some code in QList and other cases and makes it possible to explicitly
mark more methods as noexcept.

Some care needs to be taken where to add the static asserts, so that
we don't disallow forward declarations of types stored in containers.
Place the static assert into the destructor of the container where
possible or otherwise into the templated d-pointer.

Giuseppe D'Angelo 1869615fc9 QChar: make construction from integral explicit
QChar should not be convertible from any integral type except from
char16_t, short and possibly char (since it's a direct superset).

David provided the perfect example:

  if (str == 123) { ~~~ }

compiles, with 123 implicitly converted to QChar (str == "123"
was meant instead). But similarly one can construct other
scenarios where QString(123) gets accidentally used (instead of
QString::number(123)), like QString s; s += 123;.

Add a macro to revert to the implicit constructors, for backwards
compatibility.

The breaks are mostly in tests that "abuse" of integers (arithmetic,
etc.). Maybe it's time for user-defined literals for QChar/QString,
but that is left for another commit.

[ChangeLog][Potentially Source-Incompatible Changes][QChar] QChar
constructors from integral types are now by default explicit.
It is recommended to use explicit conversions, QLatin1Char,
QChar::fromUcs4 instead of implicit conversions. The old behavior
can be restored by defining the QT_IMPLICIT_QCHAR_CONSTRUCTION
macro.

Andrei Golubev 8f7016252a Implement QList::emplaceBack as a proper function
My endeavours figuring out why QList::append(elem) gives worst
performance compared to 5.15 ended up into this commit. After some
straightforward fixes, what was left is "everything is uniformly worse"
and takes more CPU cycles

Introduce emplaceBack implementation as append is quite a special case
that could be greatly simplified. This is a "straightforward" part of
the optimizations

While at it, change append(t) to use emplaceBack(t)

For workloads like:
QList<int> list;
forever {
  list.append(0);
}
this gives huge improvement (roughly 30% for 10k+ elements),
movable and complex types also get a tiny speedup

Andrei Golubev 7eed57511a QArrayDataPointer: redesign (and simplify) growth policy
It looks like we can drastically simplify the way QADP grows without
sacrificing much:
1. append-only use cases should have the same performance as before
2. prepend-only use cases should (with the help of other commits) get
   additional performance speedup
3. mid-insertion is harder to reason about, but it is either unchanged
   or benefits a bit as there's some free space at both ends now
4. mixed prepend/append cases are weird and would keep excess free
   space around but this is less critical and overall less used AFAIK

Now, QList would actually start to feel like a double-ended container
instead of "it's QVector but with faster prepend". This commit should
help close the performance gap between 6.0 and 5.15 as well

As a drawback, we will most likely have more space allocated in mixed
and mid-insert cases. This needs to be checked

Edward Welbourne 1c591fd924 Deal with {und,ov}erflow issues in QLine's length handling
Use std::hypot() instead of sqrt() of a sum of squares.
This ensures length() can't be zero when isNull() is false.
Use length() in QLine::setLength() rather than duplicating that.

Clarify and expand some documentation; isNull() never said what
constituted validity, nor did unitVector() mention that is should not
be used on a line for which isNull() is true. Make clear that lines of
denormal length cannot be rescaled accurately.

Given that we use fuzzy comparison to determine equality of
end-points, isNull() can be false for a line with displacements less
than sqrt(numeric_limits<qreal>::denorm_min()) between the coordinates
of its end-points (as long as these are not much bigger); squaring
these would give zero, hence a zero length, where using hypot() avoids
the underflow and gives a non-zero length. Having a zero length for a
line with isNull() false would lead to problems in setLength(), which
uses an isNull() pre-test, protecting a call to unitVector().

(It was already possible for a null line to have non-zero length; this
now arises in more cases.)

Restored QLine::setLength() to the form it had before a recent change
to avoid division by zero (which resulted from underflow in computing
the length of a non-null line) but allow for the possibility that the
unit vector it computes as transient may not have length exactly one.

Add tests against {ov,und}erflow problems in QLine. Reworked the test
added during the divide-by-zero fix to make it part of the existing
test.

Thiago Macieira 7e93870401 QProcess/Unix: introduce setChildProcessModifier()
[ChangeLog][Source-Incompatible Changes] QProcess::setupChildProcess()
was removed. To execute code in a child process, use
QProcess::setChildProcessModifier()

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QProcess] Added setChildProcessModifier() function
with which one can provide code to be run in the Unix child process
between fork() and execve(). With this function, it is no longer
necessary to derive from QProcess in order to execute actions in the
child process.

Another reason is that we can tell whether the std::function carries a
valid target much more easily than we can tell whether QProcess was
overridden.

The setupChildProcess() virtual function does not need to be marked
final, since no overrider could ever return an inaccessible private
class. This also makes sure the error presented to the user is about the
return type, not about attempting to override a final.

Clang:
 error: virtual function 'f' has a different return type ('void') than the function it overrides (which has return type 'QProcess::Use_setChildProcessModifier_Instead')

GCC:
 error: conflicting return type specified for 'virtual void MyProcess::setupChildProcess()'
 note: overridden function is 'virtual QProcess::Use_setChildProcessModifier_Instead QProcess::setupChildProcess()'

ICC:
 error: return type is neither identical to nor covariant with return type "QProcess::Use_setChildProcessModifier_Instead" of overridden virtual function "QProcess::setupChildProcess"

MSVC is not relevant since it doesn't compile to Unix.

Introduced allocation function in QArrayDataPointer with
interface similar to QArrayData::allocate that supports growing
strategies. This func is used instead of the original in cases
when prepend-aware storage is needed. Tried to follow Qt5 QList
policy in terms of space reservation

Updated QPodArrayOps::reallocate to be aware of growing
shenanigans. It doesn't look like a perfect solution but it is
rather close and similar to what Qt6 QList is doing when not
growing (e.g. reserve/squeeze)

Added initial QCommonArrayOps with helper function that tells
when reallocation is preferable over just using the insert-like
operation. This comes up later on when GrowsBackwards policy is
properly supported in operations

Essentially, 2/3 main data management blocks for prepend optimization
are introduced here. The last one being a generalized data move that
is done instead of reallocation when existing free space is not enough

Giuseppe D'Angelo 14090760a8 Long Live QMap as a refcounted std::map!
... and QMultiMap as std::multimap.

Just use the implementation from the STL; we can't really claim that
our code is much better than STL's, or does things any differently
(de facto they're both red-black trees).

Decouple QMultiMap from QMap, by making it NOT inherit from
QMap any longer. This completes the deprecation started in 5.15:
QMap now does not store duplicated keys any more.

Something to establish is where to put the
QExplictlySharedDataPointer replcement that is in there as an
ad-hoc solution. There's a number of patches in-flight by Marc
that try to introduce the same (or very similar) functionality.

Miscellanea changes to the Q(Multi)Map code itself:

* consistently use size_type instead of int;
* pass iterators by value;
* drop QT_STRICT_ITERATORS;
* iterators implictly convert to const_iterators, and APIs
  take const_iterators;
* iterators are just bidirectional and not random access;
* added noexcept where it makes sense;
* "inline" dropped (churn);
* qMapLessThanKey dropped (undocumented, 0 hits in Qt, 1 hit in KDE);
* operator== on Q(Multi)Map requires operator== on the key type
  (we're checking for equality, not equivalence!).

Very few breakages occur in qtbase.

[ChangeLog][Potentially Source-Incompatible Changes] QMap does not
support multiple equivalent keys any more. Any related functionality
has been removed from QMap, following the deprecation that happened
in Qt 5.15. Use QMultiMap for this use case.

[ChangeLog][Potentially Source-Incompatible Changes] QMap and
QMultiMap iterators random-access API have been removed. Note that
the iterators have always been just bidirectional; moving
an iterator by N positions can still be achieved using std::next
or std::advance, at the same cost as before (O(N)).

[ChangeLog][Potentially Source-Incompatible Changes] QMultiMap does
not inherit from QMap any more. Amongst other things, this means
that iterators on a QMultiMap now belong to the QMultiMap class
(and not to the QMap class); new Java iterators have been added.

Giuseppe D'Angelo 8e98a161e9 Long live std::pair!
Make QPair an alias for std::pair, and qMakePair just a forwarder
towards std::make_pair.

Why? Fundamentally to ditch a bunch of NIH code; gain for free
structured bindings, std::tuple and std::reference_wrapper
compatibility, and so on.

Breakages:

* Some that code manually forward declares QPair.
We don't care about it (<QContainerFwd> is the proper way).

* Some code that overloads on std::pair and QPair. Luckily
it's mostly centralized: debug, metatypes, testing macros.
Just remove the QPair overload.

* Usages of qMakePair forcing the template type parameters.
There are a handful of these in qtbase, but only one was actually
broken.

* std::pair is NOT (and will never likely be) trivially copiable.
This is agreed to be a mistake done by practically all implementations
in C++11, can can't be fixed without breaking ABI.
Some code using QPair assuming it's trivially copiable may break;
exactly one occurrence was in qtbase.

* QMetaType logic extracts the type names in two different ways,
one by looking at the source code string (e.g. extracted by moc)
and one via some ad-hoc reflection in C++. We need to make
"QPair" (as spelled in the source code) be the same as "std::pair"
(gathered via reflection, which will see through the alias)
when compared. The way it's already done e.g. for QList is
by actually replacing the moc-extracted name with the name
of the actual type used in C++; do the same here.
On libc++, std::pair is actually in an inline namespace --
i.e. std::__1::pair; the reflection will extract and store
"std::__1::pair" so we need an ad-hoc fix to QMetaType.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QPair] QPair is now an alias to std::pair,
and does not exist as a class in Qt any more. This may break
code such as functions overloaded for both QPair and std::pair.
Usually, the overload taking a QPair can be safely discarded,
leaving only the one taking a std::pair. QPair API has not changed,
and qMakePair is still available for compatibility (although
new code is encouraged to use std::pair and std::make_pair
directly instead).

Lars Knoll f14559790b Change qHashBits to use MurmurHash2
The old implementation was either using CRC32 on modern processors
or a trivial, but rather slow implementation.

We can't continue with CRC32, as that implementation can only
give us 32bit hashes, where we now need to support 64bit in Qt 6.

Change the implementation to use MurmurHash, as public domain
implementation that is both very fast and leads to well distributed hashes.

This hash function is about as fast as the SSE optimized CRC32 implementation
but works everywhere and gives us 64 bit hash values.

Here are some numbers (time for 10M hashes):

                                         14 char     16 char
                                         QByteArray  QString  float
old qHash (non CRC32)                    127ms       134ms    48ms
old qHash (using SSE CRC32 instructions  60ms        62ms     46ms
new qHash                                52ms        43ms     46ms

Unfortunately MurmurHash is not safe against hash table DoS attacks, as
potential hash collisions are indepenent of the seed. This will get
addressed in followup commit, where we use SipHash or an SSE optimized
AES based hashing algorithm that does not have those issues.

Lars Knoll 5b7c3e31b5 New QHash implementation
A brand new QHash implementation using a faster and more memory efficient data
structure than the old QHash.

A new implementation for QHash. Instead of a node based approach as the old
QHash, this implementation now uses a two stage lookup table. The total
amount of buckets in the table are divided into spans of 128 entries.
Inside each span, we use an array of chars to index into a storage area
for the span.

The storage area for each span is a simple array, that gets (re-)allocated
with size increments of 16 items. This gives an average memory overhead of
8*sizeof(struct{ Key; Value; }) + 128*sizeof(char) + 16 for each span.

To give good performance and avoid too many collisions, the array keeps its
load factor between .25 and .5 (and grows and rehashes if the load factor goes
above .5).

This design allows us to keep the memory overhead of the Hash very small, while
at the same time giving very good performance. The calculated overhead for a
QHash<int, int> comes to 1.7-3.3 bytes per entry and to 2.2-4.3 bytes for
a QHash<ptr, ptr>.

The new implementation also completely splits the QHash and QMultiHash classes.

One behavioral change to note is that the new QHash implementation will not
provide stable references to nodes in the hash when the table needs to grow.

Benchmarking using https://github.com/Tessil/hash-table-shootout shows
very nice performance compared to many different hash table implementation.
Numbers shown below are for a hash<int64, int64> with 1 million entries. These
numbers scale nicely (mostly in a linear fashion with some variation due to
varying load factors) to smaller and larger tables. All numbers are in seconds,

Simon Hausmann 733ae8a04b Make it possible to use QTaggedPointer within classes
A common pattern in declarative is to use the unused bits in linked list
next pointers for additional information storage. The "next" pointer is
typically then a tagged pointer of the containing class, which is not
fully defined yet. Therefore alignof() can't be used at tagged pointer
instantiation time. This patch delays the calls to alignment, etc. until
the corresponding functions are used, as in principle the tagged pointer
is just a quintptr and no additional information should be needed until
operating on it.

Alexandru Croitor 4e7af2061e Merge remote-tracking branch 'origin/wip/cmake' into dev
This pulls the CMake port, which not only adds CMake files but also
modifies existing code. A brief summary of "seemingly unrelated" changes:

    * configure.json was re-formatted to not use multi-line strings. That
      is an extension of the Qt JSON parser but not JSON compliant, which
      is needed for the configure.json-to-cmake conversion script (python).
    * Some moc inclusions were added due to CMake's slightly different way
      of handling moc. With the changes the files build with qmake and cmake.
    * Since CMake just grep's for the Q_OBJECT macro to determine whether to
      call moc (instead of doing pre-processing like qmake), the existing use
      of "Q_OBJECT" in our documentation was changed to \Q_OBJECT, which cmake
      doesn't see and which is now a qdoc macro.
    * QTestLib's qFindTestData was extended to also search in the source
      directory known at build time.

What this change also brings is a new way of building modules in Coin by using
YAML configuration files that describe the steps of building and testing in Coin
specific terms. The platform configuration files in qt5 are instructed to use the
old Coin built-in way of testing ("UseLegacyInstructions" feature) but for any
configurations that do not have this, these yaml files in the coin/ sub-directory
are used and shared across repositories.

Thiago Macieira a3aa2fcfa7 Introduce the Mutable flag and move QArrayDataPointer::needsDetach
The Mutable flag now contains the information on whether the data this
QArrayData points to is mutable. This decouples the mutability /
immutability setting from the allocation and from the type of data,
opening the way for mutable raw or foreign data.

There are still plenty of places in the source code that check the
size of the allocation when it actually wants d->isMutable(). Fixing
this will require reviewing all the code, so is left for later.

The needsDetach() function is moved to QArrayData and
de-constified. It returns true when a reallocation is necessary if the
data is to be modified.

Thiago Macieira f6a151024b Introduce flags to indicate the QArrayData type
These flags allow us to determine what type of data QArrayData is
carrying. There are currently only two supported types:
 - raw data type: constructed via fromRawData or static data
 - allocated data type: regular data done via heap allocation

The QArrayData object is usually allocated on the heap, unless its own
reference count is -1 (indicating static const QArrayData). Such
object should have a type of RawDataType, since we can't call free().

Add GrowsBackward for completeness as well as the StaticDataFlags
default for static data.

Thiago Macieira 8fb45ae5b8 Introduce QArrayData::allocatedCapacity() and use it instead of d->alloc
In almost all cases, use d->allocatedCapacity() or
d->constAllocatedCapacity() instead of d->alloc, since they do the
same thing (right now). In the future, the functions will be
changed. There is a separate const version because most const code
should not need to know the allocation size -- only mutating code
should need to know that

There are a few cases where d->alloc was replaced with a better
alternative, like d->size. The one case that remains in the code will
be replaced by a different test when it's available.

The code made two incorrect assumptions: that the strings used are "AM"

correct strings, and there is no need to translate. However, in order
not to break existing translations, we give those preference.

And that the AM/PM string is not longer than 4 characters, while in
e.g Spanish/Columbia locale the strings are "A. M." and "P. M.", ie 5
characters long. Also, the use of qMin in a function that is asked to
provide the maximum section length is wrong.

... spotted with the brand-new checks for that in QCharRef.

The rx[i] == ~~~ check is clearly wrong, as rx is the regexp
we're building and `i` was not supposed to index into it.

The intended meaning was wc[i] == ~~~, testing if we were seeing
the closing bracket of a character set. We need to check for
that immediately for dealing with the special syntax of []...] where
the ] belongs to the character set (it can't be the closing one
as character sets cannot be empty).

Fix and add a regression test. Bonus: this code was almost
unchanged since 2009.

Edward Welbourne 82ad4be4a2 Fix various uncommon cases in QTzTimeZonePrivate backend
Includes a fixup for 03fadc26e7, which
removed the check on empty transition list, needed when no data are
available. Ensured that such a data-free zone would in fact be
noticed as invalid during init().

Fixed handling of times before the epoch (we still want to consult a
POSIX rule, if that's all that's available) while ensuring we (as
documented) ignore DST for such times.

Fixed handling of large times (milliseconds since epoch outside int
range) when looking up POSIX rules. Gave QTimeZonePrivate a YearRange
enum (to be moved to QTimeZone once this merges up to dev) so as to
eliminate a magic number (and avoid adding another). Moved
year-munging in POSIX rules after the one early return, which doesn't
need the year range.

Added test-cases for the distant past/future (just checking UTC's
offsets; SLES has a minimal version of the UTC data-file that triggers
the bugs fixed here for them).
