Thiago Macieira ca92ee2518 Make qAddPostRoutine & family thread-safe
If one wants to add them on demand, threads may have started, so these
functions should be thread-safe. That includes the calling of the
registered functions: some other thread could be adding post routines
too. Of course, if you're racing, it's your own fault, but we need to
support the routines registered with qAddPostRoutine adding more post
routines.

[ChangeLog][QtCore] qAddPostRoutine() and qRemovePostRoutine() are now
thread-safe.

This fixes an issue where iOS, watchOS, and tvOS versions would be
mis-detected as 100 times their version (i.e. iOS 8.0 as iOS 800.0).
Instead of protecting the branch in (version >= 100000) with a macOS
ifdef, we can simply remove it entirely since Qt cannot be run on OSes
where the old encoding was used (macOS < 10.10).

Joerg Bornemann 85403d0af0 Support more than 62 instances of QWinEventNotifier, take 2
QWinEventNotifiers were limited to 62 instances, because of
WaitForMultipleObject's limitation to MAXIMUM_WAIT_OBJECTS - 1 handles.

Use the RegisterWaitForSingleObject API which does not have this
restriction and executes waits in threads managed by the system. A
central manual reset event per event dispatcher is signaled in the
RegisterWaitForSingleObject callback and waited for in the event loop.

Although Qt declares its minimum supported OS version to the compiler
and linker, the OS ignores this information when loading shared
libraries, so instead of failing with a useful error message, the
program will simply crash at runtime. This attempts to bring that
failure as early in the lifecycle as possible, and provide a better
error message as well.

Thiago Macieira 42d2464d8f Stop setting FD_CLOEXEC on systems where O_CLOEXEC is honored
In commit 85ff351266, we removed support
for systems where the pipe2(), dup3(), and accept4() functions are
declared in the libc headers but fail at runtime. On Linux, O_CLOEXEC
was added before accept4(), so if the latter is supported, the former is
too. On the BSDs, the libc headers are updated in lockstep with the
kernel, so we know for sure.

There are still systems that have O_CLOEXEC (a POSIX.1-2008 flag) but
not the extra functions (Solaris and Darwin). Solaris libc must update
like the BSDs, but on Darwin we do build with a new SDK targeting an
old OS. Fortunately, O_CLOEXEC has been supported since 10.7, so we're
out of the woods.

Thiago Macieira f3205a4949 Merge qt_error_string and QSystemError
This removes a lot of duplicated code that existed in both qglobal.cpp
and qsystemerror.cpp, including the hack to get the correct strerror_r
signature.

This removes the incorrect use of EACCES, EMFILE, ENOENT, and ENOSPC
from qt_error_string on Windows. qt_error_string is supposed to be used
only with Win32 error codes from GetLastError(), despite there being a
lot of uses in cross-platform and even Windows-specific code that pass
errno constants.

It may or may not work: that depends on whether the constants happen to
match. ENOENT matches ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND and one could argue that
ENOSPC matching ERROR_OUT_OF_PAPER is acceptable, but EMFILE isn't the
same as ERROR_BAD_LENGTH nor is EACCES, ERROR_INVALID_DATA.

Code like:

    timer.start();
    QTest::qWait(30);

little and thus returning before 30 ms have elapsed.

This matches the QElapsedTimer::elapsed() code that rounds down:

Thiago Macieira 9406bef6b3 Revert "Add qt_safe_ftok wrapper for ftok"
This reverts commit ac0184d608. That
commit added the use of qHash in qt_safe_ftok, which made ftok even more
unsafe than previously. Since the algorithm in qHash can change across

Tor Arne Vestbø 4a5a4245b7 macOS: Add root level NSAutoreleasePool for objects autoreleased in main()
Any objects directly or indirectly autoreleased in main(), before we start
the event loop, will never be released, as there are no pools present yet.

This includes all resources allocated during application and window setup,
unless those function have local pools. Ideally that setup code would be
called from within the runloop callstack, where there is a pool present,
but that requires a new main/startup-API for Qt.

To aid in debugging object ownership and hierarchies within Qt, we set up
our own root level pool tied to QApplication, which ensures that most objects
autoreleased in main() will eventually be released and have their dealloc
methods called.

The feature can be disabled by setting an environment variable:

  QT_DISABLE_ROOT_LEVEL_AUTORELEASE_POOL=1

Combined with OBJC_DEBUG_MISSING_POOLS=YES, this allows breaking on the
function objc_autoreleaseNoPool to weed out codepaths in Qt that should
have local pools.

Gatis Paeglis fad814088c do not wrap QAbstractEventDispatcher::flush with QT_DEPRECATED_SINCE
... as this would require us to remove usage of QAbstractEventDispatcher::flush
from Qt source code as well. We can not do this already in Qt 5.9 as there are
few event dispatchers in Qt that actually do override the ::flush (with non empty
bodies). Removing this code could result in behavior changes (not very likely) for
some user code. This method will be removed in Qt6.

Instead mark it with a well known "### Qt{Version}" comment.

Gatis Paeglis 41eefd7493 Deprecate QCoreApplication::flush()
... as it has outlived its original purpose:

Qt3 implementation on X11:
void QApplication::flush() { flushX(); }
void QApplication::flushX() { if (appDpy) XFlush( appDpy ); }

Qt4 implementation on X11:
Did nothing when QApplication::flush() was called (the flush()
overrides in {unix,glib} event dispatchers with empty bodies).

In Qt5 this function somehow has been repurposed (inconsistently)
to do what QCoreApplication::sendPostedEvents already does:

QAbstractEventDispatcher::flush() = 0;
 => QCocoaEventDispatcher::flush() {}
 => QEventDispatcherCoreFoundation::flush() {}
    => QIOSEventDispatcher (does not override ::flush())
 => QEventDispatcherGlib::flush() {}
    => QPAEventDispatcherGlib (does not override ::flush())
 => QEventDispatcherUNIX::flush() {}
    => QUnixEventDispatcherQPA (when QT_NO_GLIB=true)
       ::flush() { if (qApp) qApp->sendPostedEvents(); })
       ==> QAndroidEventDispatcher (does not override ::flush())
 => QEventDispatcherWin32::flush() {}
    => QOffscreenEventDispatcher::flush() {
         if (qApp) qApp->sendPostedEvents();
         QEventDispatcherWin32::flush();
       }
    => QWindowsGuiEventDispatcher (does not override ::flush())
       => QWindowsDirect2DEventDispatcher (does not override ::flush())
 => QEventDispatcherWinRT::flush() {}
    => QOffscreenEventDispatcher::flush() {
         if (qApp) qApp->sendPostedEvents();
         QEventDispatcherWinRT::flush();
       }
    => QWinRTEventDispatcher (qminimaleglintegration.cpp) (does not override ::flush())
    => QWinRTEventDispatcher (qwinrteventdispatcher.h) (does not override ::flush())

Whatever this function was doing on macOS in Qt3 and Qt4 also has been
dropped in Qt5. It appears that the other event dispatchers in Qt5 that
have overrides for flush() have simply copy-pasted this logic.

Clearly the documentation of QCoreApplication::flush() is outdated and
has nothing to do with the actual implementation in Qt5.

This function is rarely used in Qt5 sources. It should be safe to remove
the calls to QCoreApplication::flush() from Qt source code, as this
function has been doing nothing on most platforms anyways. Repurposing
it even broke handling of posted events (see QTBUG-48717).

[ChangeLog][QtCore][Event loop] QCoreApplication::flush() is now
deprecated. Use QCoreApplication::processEvents() and
QCoreApplication::sendPostedEvents() instead.

std::nullptr_t is nullary: it accepts only one value, nullptr. So we
don't need to read or write anything. This commit simply adds the two
operators that allow generic code to operate on std::nullptr_t if
required.

This commit also adds the actual use to QMetaType::load/save, even
though there's no change in behavior.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QDataStream] Added operator<< and operator>>

there is a bug in the clang visitor class, but I can't

Benjamin Terrier d2388f15e7 Add QMetaObject::invokeMethod() overloads for function pointers
The new overloads do not accept parameters for the invoked function, this
use case is handled by using lambda.
Overloads for non member function pointers and functors are separated as
the return type is not retrieved in the same way.
Move QSlotObjectBase, QSlotObject and QFunctorSlotObject from
qobject_impl.h to qobjectdefs_impl.h in order to make them available in
qobjectdefs.h.
Update autotests of previous overloads because of a soft break in source
compatibility: passing null literals (0, NULL, nullptr, etc.) for the
second parameter of invokeMethod() is not supported anymore.

[ChangeLog][QtCore] Added QMetaObject::invokeMethod() overloads for function
pointers.

Thiago Macieira 62013d7772 Mark to remove const from function parameters in QtCore public headers
Some compilers are known to complain about this with a warning. GCC
complains about const on return values on -Wignored-qualifiers (enabled
at -Wextra), so it's not too much of a jump to assume that others do
too. Besides, this is not Qt Library API policy. As maintainer for
QtCore, I'm exercising my prerrogative in specifying certain unspecified
parts of the coding style, like I've done for constructor initializer
lists.

Since all the classes involved are exported (including QVector, through
derived classes), we can't remove the qualifier until Qt 6, since there
are compilers known to encode the qualifier in the mangled name
(suncc). I'm not introducing #ifdef to silence unknown compilers unless
we get an actual complaint.

Timer IDs have been reused since Qt 4.5 or thereabouts, so just checking
if the timer ID is in the timer dictionary is an incorrect check: our
timer may have been deleted and replaced by another with the same ID.

Instead of deleting the WinTimerInfo object, let's just mark it as
unregistered by setting timerId to -1 and cooperate in deleting at the
appropriate places. Since unregisterTimer skips deleting if inTimerEvent
is true, the appropriate places are everywhere that set inTimerEvent to
true.

Thiago Macieira ef26467eb2 Reintroduce a directed QMetaType::typeName array
Commit fb376e0fcc removed an array that
facilitated returning the names of built-in types, to avoid the jump tables
from the switch statement. This commit brings it back but makes the array a
compile-time constant string offset table.

The array is created by way of a set of C++11 constexpr functions, so we
require that compiler feature. I've tested that MSVC 2015 does support
it as well as the ICC 17 when masquerading as MSVC 2015, so I've enabled
for that too. The only compiler left out is MSVC 2013.

If we didn't need to support MSVC 2015, this could have been written
more simply with C++14 relaxed constexpr.

This also adds unit tests to confirm that QMetaType::typeName() does
return null when we said it would. We're testing QMetaType::User-1
(which we'll likely never use) and QMetaType::LastWidgetsType-1 to
select something inside the range of the built-in types.

This adds the tabletTracking property in the same way that mouseTracking already
existed: there is a WA_TabletTracking attribute, and a TabletTrackingChange event

QtQuick applications don't yet make use of tablet events, but when they do

it remains to be seen whether that will be necessary.

[ChangeLog][QtWidget] QWidget now has a tabletTracking property, analogous

hovering, even if no button is pressed. This allows applications to show
feedback based on the other tablet event properties such as rotation and tilt.

Marc Mutz f05d2764b0 QJNIHelpers: unbreak runnables counter
Adding 0 each time will obviously not produce a new identifier each

Also use static initialization for QBasicAtomicInt.

A default-constructed static QBasicAtomicInt at function scope
will be dynamically initialized. It will still be zero-initialized,
but at least GCC adds guard variables for such objects.

When using aggregate initialization, the guard disappears.

Marc Mutz 5486882b52 Android: De-duplicate vtables of exported private classes
By making the destructor (usually the first non-inline, non-pure,
virtual function, and therefore the trigger for most compilers to emit
the vtable and type_info structures for the class in that TU)
out-of-line, vtables and, more importantly, type_info structures for
the class are pinned to a single TU. This prevents false-negative
dynamic_cast and catch evaluation.

Since the classes are already exported, users of these classes are
unaffected by the change, and since it's private API, we don't need to
avoid adding code to the out-of-line destructor until Qt 6.

While at it, de-inline also the empty default implementations of
virtual (non-dtor) functions.

It was unnecessary, since we only cached the static types, which are all
generated by the macro anyway. The way it was implemented, this produced
data races that are strictly-speaking UB, even if all the threads were
writing the same values to the same data locations.

This commit changes a little the code to simplify, since we're changing

If the QSemaphore::tryAcquire() call times out, we mustn't
touch *res, because there was no happens-before relation
established between *res = result in the lambda and our
returning *res;

Fix by returning a default-constructed hash in that case.

Add a strategic std::move().

The same problem exists in runOnAndroidThreadSync(), but
I have no idea how to solve it, because there the shared

Marc Mutz 39820cf8c3 QJNIHelper: fix a potential race in sendRequestPermissionsResult()
The code obtained an iterator into a QHash under mutex protection,
then dropped the lock, dereferenced the iterator several times and
only retook the lock to erase the element from the QHash.

This is very smelly. QHash provides no official iterator validity
guarantees, and the container isn't const, either (which would imply
thread-safety). In particular, the dereference into the container
outside the critical section is cause for concerns.

Simplify the code, removing any doubts about its race-freedom, by
taking the payload item out of the hash before dropping the lock, and
using only the local strong reference in the remainder of the
function.

The only other references to g_pendingPermissionRequests are
insertions with unique-by-construction keys in QtAndroidPrivate's
requestPermissions(), so there was no reason to keep the item in the
hash for the whole duration of the sendRequestPermissionsResult()
call.

We don't need to create it in order to conclude that. Unlike most

Since we're calling exists() before, there are two consequences: first,
since the list already exists, we're not allocating memory so it cannot
throw std::bad_alloc when being accessed. Second, since we've just
checked it exists, we can use QGlobalStatic's operator*(), which is
slightly faster than operator()(). The weird &(*list) syntax is only to

C++17 adopts P0021R1[1], which makes noexcept be part of the function
pointer's type and thus be overloadable. It contains some provisions for
allowing a noexcept function pointer to cast implicitly to a non-
noexcept function pointer, but that fails in the presence of templates
and additional overloads that could match the type in question.

Fortunately, the paper proposed a test macro, so we can change our
sources now and be compatible with both C++14 and C++17 rules.

This first failed with Clang 4.0 trunk. This source incompatibility is
not our fault, it's the language's doing.

Marc Mutz e80faf3db6 QTimer: don't circumvent <chrono> safety net
By templating on the <chrono> types and unconditionally using
duration_cast to coerce the duration into a milliseconds, we
violate a principal design rule of <chrono>, namely that non-
narrowing conversions are implicit, but narrowing conversions
need duration_cast. By accepting any duration, we allow non-
sensical code such as

   QTimer::singleShot(10us, ...)

to compile, which is misleading, since it's actually a zero-
timeout timer.

Overloading a non-template with a template also has adverse
effects: it breaks qOverload().

Fix by replacing the function templates with functions that
just take std::chrono::milliseconds. This way, benign code
such as

    QTimer::singleShot(10s, ...)
    QTimer::singleShot(10min, ...)
    QTimer::singleShot(1h, ...)

work as expected, but attempts to use sub-millisecond
resolution fails to compile / needs an explicit user-
provided duration_cast.

To allow future extension to more precise timers, forcibly
inline the functions, so they don't partake in the ABI of the
class and we can later support sub-millisecond resolution by
simply taking micro- or nano- instead of milliseconds.

Jørn Bersvendsen 91cde06296 Extracted cleanup from QCoreApplication::exec() into separate function
Not all Qt integration points can call QCoreApplication::exec(), in
particular, ActiveQt. When an ActiveQt server is loaded, it tries to
mimic the behavior of calling QCoreApplication::exec() by setting
QCoreApplicationPrivate::in_exec = true. However, when unloading the
DLL it is necessary to call the same clean-up (e.g. deferred delete)
that QCoreApplication::exec() does. Extracting the cleanup in a separate
function means implementation does not have to be duplicated.

BogDan Vatra 31a63b6903 Say hello to Android 6+ permissions model
This API was introduced by Android v23 and is used in connection with
the new permission request system. From Android v23 onwards, some
permissions such as Location permissions cannot only be granted via
Android's Manifest files. An additional runtime check/request system
was introduced which forces applications to prompt the user
the first time a privileged function is called. Such user prompt
responses
are returned to the current application via the
Activity.onRequestPermissionsResult(..) callback.
This change add Qt API to nicely check & request permissions. For now
this is private
API which can be used to fix permission problems in other Qt
compontents. Later Qt versions will introduce a public API to
QtAndroidExtras.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][Android] Introduced a mechanism to forward
permission related callbacks on Activity objects to interested parties.
