d->derefWaiters() (4)
d->waiters.testAndSetRelaxed(...) (5)
if (d != d_ptr.loadAcquire()) (6)
d->wait()
The operation (1) isn't serialized with the operation (6) so its memory
effect may be observed before the effect of the operation (1). However,
if memory effects are observed in the following order: (6) -> (1) -> (2)
-> (3) -> (4) -> (5) then Thread 1 doesn't notice that Thread 2 updates
d_ptr and goes to sleep with d pointing to a stale object, this object
isn't reachable since d_ptr is zeroed so Thread 1 cannot be woken up.
The patch adds the "acquire" barrier into the operation (1) so that it
cannot be reordered with the operation (6).

on a large number of events) and allows us to remove notifiers handling
from the event dispatcher completely.
As an alternative to sending Qt events, use of Windows' APC queue in

emission asynchronous to the Qt event loop's operation, which is not

As opposed to standalone tests.
The problem is that 4 of the cmake failbuild tests use try_compile as
an indirection layer to configure /another/ project which is actually
the test.
That project needs to know the location of Qt. To do that, a
FindPackageHints.cmake file is included and the variable it sets is
passed to find_package() HINTS option. That's enough to find a
specific module, but not any dependent Tools packages.
Work around that by adding the Qt location to CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH in the
included FindPackageHints.cmake file.
The problem does not happen in standalone tests, because the
Qt location ends up being propagated via the qt toolchain file, which
does get inherited by the compile tests (albeit in a weird way, where
a reconfiguration still shows CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH to be empty).

When storing complex types in the list and inserting in the middle,
we ended up in some cases moving the items in the list onto itself,
to make space for 0 new items.
Obviously that's not a very good idea. It was not a huge deal for
POD or relocatable types as we'd use memmove in that case which would
return quickly. But for complex types, we actually did copy around
half of the items stored in the list onto themselves.

Prepending 20M integers to the list gives:

No numbers for prepending to a QVector in 5.15 as the operation
was O(n) there. The difference in time between append and prepend
comes from the fact that our growth policy favors appending to

My endeavours figuring out why QList::append(elem) gives worst
performance compared to 5.15 ended up into this commit. After some
straightforward fixes, what was left is "everything is uniformly worse"
and takes more CPU cycles
Introduce emplaceBack implementation as append is quite a special case
that could be greatly simplified. This is a "straightforward" part of
the optimizations
While at it, change append(t) to use emplaceBack(t)
For workloads like:
QList<int> list;
forever {
list.append(0);
}
this gives huge improvement (roughly 30% for 10k+ elements),
movable and complex types also get a tiny speedup

It looks like we can drastically simplify the way QADP grows without
sacrificing much:
1. append-only use cases should have the same performance as before
2. prepend-only use cases should (with the help of other commits) get
additional performance speedup
3. mid-insertion is harder to reason about, but it is either unchanged
or benefits a bit as there's some free space at both ends now
4. mixed prepend/append cases are weird and would keep excess free
space around but this is less critical and overall less used AFAIK
Now, QList would actually start to feel like a double-ended container
instead of "it's QVector but with faster prepend". This commit should
help close the performance gap between 6.0 and 5.15 as well
As a drawback, we will most likely have more space allocated in mixed
and mid-insert cases. This needs to be checked

Prepend in QList was using insert() logic that always uses append-aware
functions. This results in the fact that freeSpaceAtBegin() is always 0
and forces us to actually allocate on *every* call (with the same
capacity!). Vicious cycle is hot-fixable with introduction of
emplaceFront (or anything prepend-aware, really)
This brings me from 632ms to 0.65ms for 100k iterations of
list.prepend(int(0)). Still ~3x worse than QList in 5.15 but much
faster than QVector, which takes 382ms in the same workload
Not addressed:

- Other prepend functions in QList e.g. prepend(it1, it2)
- Lower-level array operations that should just be extended

an async call on the on the main thread. However, the
calls are ordered, also in respect to _synchronous_ calls
to the main thread (for example those made during file
write/flush).
Making a synchronous call from a secondary thread may
then cause Emscripten to service previously scheduled
async calls during the synchronous call. This can cause
a deadlock if:
- a secondary thread makes a sync call while holding a lock, and
- a previously scheduled async call attempt to acquire the same
lock on the main thread.
(See https://github.com/emscripten-core/emscripten/issues/10155
for sample code)
Avoid this case by adding a second zero-timer async call;
this way Qt should process events when the main thread
becomes idle.

In 4e400369c0 we deprecated
normalizedPos() because we suspect it's a legacy feature that few
users will need. However Qt developers keep bringing up the continued
usage in autotests over and over. (It's IMO not wrong to keep testing
deprecated functions in autotests, but the warning keeps attracting
attention.)
Of course it will turn out that normalizedPos() has users; we just
don't know how many. One way to look at it is: why should they copy
a snippet of code to calculate it, when it costs us so little to
continue to provide this accessor.
It might also turn out that some users will complain that in Qt 5
it was passed through from the device driver (or at least from the
window system API) to the application, and perhaps the replacement will
not always work, for example if availableVirtualGeometry() ends up
wrong, or there is some strange scenario that generates events that are
out-of-bounds for the device that the event professes to come from, so
that the "normalized" coordinates also go outside the [0..1] range.
We reserve the right to put back the storage in QEventPointPrivate if
the need arises; so that's why this function is not inline.
We continue to hope that startNormalizedPos() and lastNormalizedPos()
are used even less and won't be missed much, because it would be
wasteful to store them all the time if only a few users need them.

std::function as a type is rather unfortunate for us, as its SSO buffer
makes it rather large, and we can ensure that the function is never
empty.
Considering that we do need to allocate memory for
QPropertyBindingPrivate anyway, we can get rid of the SSO buffer and
instead coalesce the allocations (similar to how std::make_shared works).
The memory looks then like
[--QPropertyBindingPrivate--][Functor]
and QPropertyBindingPrivate can get a pointer to the functor via
reinterpret_cast<std::byte>(this)+sizeof(QPropertyBindingPrivate).
To actually do anything with the functor, we do however need a "vtable"
which describes how we can call, destroy and move the functor. This is
done by creating a constexpr struct of function pointers, and storing a
pointer to it in QPropertyBindingPrivate.
As a consequence of those changes, we cannot use QESDP anymore, as we
now have to carefully deallocate the buffer we used for both the
QPropertyBindingPrivate and the functor. We introduce a custom
refcounting pointer for that. While we're at it, we make the refcount
non-atomic, as bindings do not work across threads to begin with.
Moreover, we can now make the class non-virtual, as that was only needed
to hack around limitations of QESDP in the context of exported symbols.
