Alexander Akulich 7b9de1d4da QSocks5SocketEngine: Remove too optimistic check for UDP proxy setup
The engine used to send a UDP datagram to the local address to check
the proxy setup, but the check fails in case of the proxy hosted in
WAN and the local address hidden behind a NAT. In other words the
check fails because a public proxy hosted somewhere in internet has
no access to local addresses such as 192.168.1.2.

Remove the check to fix the issue; we still have other means to
detect network errors.

Timur Pocheptsov b78342f553 QAbstractSocket - protect against the broken invariant
It's possible to use QAbstractSocket (more precisely QUdpSocket) in
a quite unusual way: connect to its stateChanged() signal and call
close() in the slot (thus invalidating socketEngine pointer). For
QAbstractSocket::bind() this results in a null-pointer
dereference.

Oliver Wolff f3db6971ee winrt: Rework socket handling
Buffer handling is now completely moved to the worker. Instead of
moving data around all the time, the worker is responsible for
buffer handling. When reads happen, the data that is read is used
directly from the worker and its buffer is updated.

With the previous approach it was possible, that transfers never
completed. It was possible, that new data was read between calls
of bytesAvailable and read and the availability of that data was
never communicated to the user. If a read that does not read all
the data happens, we signal, that there is still data available,
so that the user is notified about that fact. At the same time
we avoid unnecessary readyRead calls by blocking them until a read
happens.

To make future debugging sessions easier, categorized logging
(including verbose) was added to the socket engine.

Binding without an interface and expecting the OS to select something is
not supported in all OSes. On FreeBSD, I keep getting EADDRNOTAVAIL. So
modify our test to only join, leave and send to multicast groups with an

With this, all tests either pass or are skipped for me on Linux,
FreeBSD, and macOS. On Windows, this revealed an inconsistency in
behavior, which this commit adds a workaround for.

Looks like I never even tested this. There were two problems:
 1) when we asked for the recvmsg and sendmsg functions, we used the

 2) we extracted the destination addresses, but never set them in the
    QIpPacketHeader object

The added tests confirm that this works on Windows, Linux, Darwin,
FreeBSD. There also seems to be a problem, obtaining the destination
address on an IPv4 socket with a dual-stack sender (I can reproduce that
on FreeBSD, macOS and Windows, plus an old version of Linux).

Thiago Macieira a9ff368ac7 QNativeSocketEngine: reduce memory usage in nativePendingDatagramSize()
The Windows implementation had the right idea: by using a chunked read,
we can tell the OS to reuse the same buffer over and over, so we don't
need to grow a buffer to the size of the datagram when peeking. This
commit implements that strategy on Unix and changes both implementations
to start at 1500 bytes instead of 8192 (1500 is more than enough for
almost all datagrams we're going to receive).

Let's also not use a static buffer, but a stack-based one. No need to
dedicate 1500 (or, worse, 8192) bytes for something that is only seldom
called.

Oliver Wolff 91ef71b7bf winrt: Get rid of one deferral when handling socket data
Instead of defering one more time by emitting the signal, we can add
the data to the list of available data/pending datagrams. For TCP
readNotification can be invoked directly so that emission of the
readyRead signal is tightly coupled to the availability of new data.
For UDP sockets calling readNotification directly stops handling of
more data and thus cannot be done.

With the old approach it was possible, that the last bit of TCP data
was lost, because the socket was closed while the data was still being
processed/transferred from the worker to the engine.

Oliver Wolff 13bb46bc3a winrt: Use hostnames for socket connections
Using IP addresses does not work for every use case on WinRT. The
workaround that is in place for VPN connections uses the host name
directly but has the disadvantage that it:
    1) does a host lookup nevertheless and ends up using the host name
    afterwards.
    2) needs a set environment variable to be activated.

Instead of doing a host lookup we now use the same approach that is used
if a proxy with the HostNameLookupCapability is present. In this case the
lookup is skipped and the direction is made using the hostname.

The big advantage of hostname over ip addresses on WinRt is, that
Windows handles everything related to lookup and proxies (it uses the
system proxy in this case), so we do not have to take care of that.
As the WinRT backend falls back to the "connectToHostByName" in any
case no further adaptions are needed.

QT_WINRT_USE_THREAD_NETWORK_CONTEXT cannot be completely removed though
as the creation of the network context should not be done
unconditionally.

This change partially reverts e9fa435652

Timur Pocheptsov c0157a9f03 QNativeSocketEngine - set query type in checkProxy
The default query type for QNetworkProxyQuery is TcpSocket (that's what
our QNetworkProxy::applicationProxy() requests). Unfortunately, this
can result in http_proxy found and QTcpServer::listen() failing
(probably, QUdpSocket is also affected). So now we extract applicationProxy's
logic but modify it to provide the exact query type we need.

A variable of static storage duration that is not zero-initialized
takes up space in the DATA segment of the executable. By making the

move them over to the BSS segment, which does not take up space in
the executable.

Wrap atomics used across function boundaries into small functions,
to avoid code duplication and to increase readability.

Oliver Wolff 14ea8759da winrt: Change the way tcp packets are handled
Similar to the way datagrams are handled for udp sockets the worker now
takes care of tcp data. Thus we avoid race conditions which stopped data
processing. It could happen that data was read from the socket into the
buffer and before readyRead was emitted the buffer was completely read.
In this case readNotification is set to false and no new data is processed
afterwards.

Additionally the buffer was replaced by a vector of QByteArray. The buffer
kept growing and was never cleared (and there is no obvious way for
clearing the buffer), so that an overflow happened eventually.

pendingReadOperations (and its mutex) could be removed as well. There is
only one situation where they could clash and that's the initial read.
Having two members is preferred over having a list of operations and a
mutex.

Oliver Wolff dcf7da7c93 winrt: Do not lose initial data for TCP connections
When a client connects and sends data immediately it was possible that
initial data was lost as the state was set too late. If the callback was
called before the state was set the socket engine just discarded the
data. So the state has to be set before the callback is registered.

The new implementation needs a list of pending read operations. It can
happen that the "readyRead" callback is triggered directly while
"put_Completed" is called. The callback reassigns readOp which causes a
"function not implemented" exception when it jumps back to the
"put_Completed" call in "initialize"

Instead of calculating the bytesAvailable in place, the value should
be stored and only retrieved in the function itself. Otherwise it is
possible that bytesAvailable is called between the data having been
read and readyRead is emitted. In this case it's possible, that the
client reads all the data before the signal is emitted. Triggering
readyRead without any data being available will stop the socket.

Oliver Wolff fc35f94964 winrt: Rework handling of udp datagrams
We may only emit the readReady signal once for every event loop
iteration. The previous implementation lead to the situation that the
socket engine stopped reading socket data when bursts of data was
received. In this case several readReady signals were fired. The socket
engine obtained the pending datagrams (not only the first one) and for
the following readReady signal no datagram was present. In this case the
socket engine stops reading and the engine stalls.

The new approach emits the readyRead signal at the most once every event
loop iteration. The list of new pending datagrams is queued to be added
to the "real" pending datagram list at the same time as the readyRead
signal. Thereby we avoid the situation that a client can read all the
datagrams before readyRead is emitted.

One more advantage of having the worker handle the pending datagrams
is that we no longer have to access the socket engine's members inside
the callback. Thus we avoid the situation, where a late callback can
make the application crash when the socket engine has already been
deleted.

Thiago Macieira da04322b4c Make moc obey the preprocessor environment variable for include paths
C preprocessors augment their standard list of include paths from the
environment: Unix preprocessors use $C_INCLUDE_PATH (for C) and
$CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH (for C++), plus CPATH for both, whereas MSVC uses
the an environment variable simply called "INCLUDE". Handling this for
MSVC is particularly important because the VCVARSALL.BAT script sets the
necessary #include paths in the environment for important things.
Without that being parsed, moc won't find some #defines, like
WINAPI_DESKTOP_FAMILY.

[ChangeLog][moc] qmake and moc now cooperate to use the Visual Studio
environment variables (set by the VCVARSALL.BAT script) to find system
include files. A possible consequence is that moc parses application
headers slightly differently, depending on #if conditions that depended
on macros that previous versions had not seen #define'd. Implementers of
other buildsystems are advised to pass the --compiler-flavor=msvc option
to moc.

Thiago Macieira 4da2dda2aa Long live QNetworkDatagram!
This commit adds a new class called QNetworkDatagram that encapsulates
the IP packet header and UDP/IP stack metadata along with the actual
payload data. It can be used for both receiving as well as sending data.

It's called QNetworkDatagram so it can be used by QSctpSocket too, when
that lands.

[ChangeLog][QtNetwork] Added QNetworkDatagram class, along with new
function receiveDatagram in QUdpSocket that returns it and an overload
to writeDatagram that can accept it.

The specificErrorSet variable is necessary in these cases so that the

Maurice Kalinowski 8714c99f65 winrt: Fix potential crash when reading closed sockets
Using multiple concurrent requests can cause a delay between a socket
closing and getting deleted. At that point the state was closingDown,
but not wasDeleted yet. Especially on slower arm devices, callbacks are
done from another thread causing synchronization issues.

Hence closingDown needs to be synced and handleReadyRead needs to have
more criterias to return early to avoid invalid access crashes.

Easiest to reproduce is heavy scrolling on the mapviewer example when it
downloads a huge amount of tiles and cancels those requests when not in
view anymore.

According to the documentation tcp sockets are closed properly if
their instances are deleted when no read operation is pending. Thus we
have to keep track of the running read operation, cancel it (only
available on Windows 10) and delete it before closing the socket.

As there is no way to cancel the read operation on Windows 8.1 the
hard reset still happens there.

To avoid infinite loop on unbuffered socket, previous implementation

Joerg Bornemann 24411e9743 Add a write buffer to QLocalSocket/Win
Commit 0307c008 removed the buffering of data-to-be-written from
QWindowsPipeWriter, because it was assumed that users of this class
(QProcess and QLocalSocket) already buffer data internally.

This assumption was wrong for QLocalSocket. The following sequence
    localSocket->write(someData);
    localSocket->write(someMoreData);
would not write anything on the second write.

Add a write buffer to the Windows implementation of QLocalSocket.

Alex Trotsenko 13abbea788 Rework toggling the state of read notifier on buffered socket
Read notifications on a buffered socket are enabled all the time while
the socket is connected unless the buffer size limit is reached. To
enable the read notifier again, the user needs to read the data or
enlarge the buffer with a setReadBufferSize() call.

According to that scenario, it's very likely that the socket will
toggle the state of notifier twice (on->off->on) in one notification
cycle. Also, use of the readyRead() signal with a queued connection
leads to the same problem.

This patch prevents this unnecessary toggling by:
- unconditionally setting the notifier's state in setReadBufferSize();
- deferring the notification disabling in canReadNotification()
  to the next notification cycle.

Marc Mutz 5cd455dca3 QtNetwork: use printf-style qWarning/qDebug where possible (I)
The printf-style version of QDebug expands to a lot less code than the
std::ostream-style version. Of course, you pay in type safety (but
compilers warn about it these days), you cannot stream complex Qt
types and streaming QStrings is awkward, but in many cases you
actually improve on readability.

But the main reason is that something that's not supposed to be
executed under normal operation has no business bloating executable
code size.

This is not an attempt at converting all qWarnings() to printf-style,
only the low-hanging fruit.

In this first part, replace
   qWarning() << ""
with
   qWarning("...").

Saves ~850b in text size on optimized GCC 5.3 AMD64 builds.
