Tor Arne Vestbø 538b1b5076 Android: Defer initialization of logging rules until qApp construction
On Android, we load the application library, and its dependencies (Qt),
on Android's main thread (thread 0), and then spin up a secondary
thread (thread 1), that we call main() on.

If any QObject is constructed during loading of the application library
or any of Qt's libraries, via static initializers or constructor
functions, we will set QCoreApplicationPrivate::theMainThread to
thread 0, which will confuse Qt later on when it's being run on
thread 1, and will result in a warning during QCoreApplication
construction:

QApplication was not created in the main() thread

This situation can easily lead to a crash as well.

Unfortunately logging via qDebug/qCDebug and friends will trigger
this too, as they internally use QObject.

Fixing the root cause of this is under investigation, but for now
we will partially revert fa2a653b3b for Android. The effect
is that any qCDebug with a "qt.*" category before qApp construction
will turn into a no-op, like it was before fa2a653b3b.

This patch does not cover the case of a regular qDebug, or a qCDebug
with a non-Qt category. Those will still produce the same symptom,
as before fa2a653b3b.

The backwards iteration was done under the assumption that the only
valid modification of the winEventNotifierList in a slot connected to
activated() would be the removal of the notifier itself. This is wrong.

Instead, iterate forwards, like before 85403d0a, and check the index
against the current list size in every iteration. This ensures that we
do not run out of bounds while the list is modified.

Also, retry the activation loop if the list was modified by a slot
connected to activated(). This ensures that all notifiers with signaled
handles are activated.

Commit 29bc68cf16 added support for
unsigned and commit 5ff7a3d96e later added
support for int. This commit adds support for qsizetype, which isn't int
on 64-bit platforms.

We do this by reorganizing the code and using the generic version of
__builtin_{add,sub,mul}_overflow from GCC 5 and Clang 3.8, which ICC 18
seems to support now too on Linux. That leaves older versions of GCC and
Clang, as well as MSVC, ICC on Windows, and the GHS compiler, to use the
generic implementations, as I've removed the assembly code those
versions of GCC and Clang on x86 are now uncommon.

Note: any older version of ICC probably breaks. We only support the
latest.

Martin Smith 4ca0d76454 doc: clang-qdoc must not see certain function declarations
The macro Q_DECLARE_INTERFACE declared some qobject_cast() functions
that clang-qdoc must not see in the contexts where the macro is used.
This update prevents that from happening by ensuring that Q_CLANG_QDOC
is not defined when the macro is defined.

This update also adds a \fn command for a declaration of qobject_cast()
that was missing in the documentation. There are two versions of the
function, one with a const parameter and one with a non-const parameter,
and they both share one qdoc comment.

Andre de la Rocha e211ab76d7 Handle OOM condition in the validation of plugin metadata
A large plugin dll (e.g., one with many MB of debug info) could cause
a 32-bit application to crash when the entire dll file could not fit
within the address space of the process. The code for validating a
plugin library and retrieving metadata from it first tried to map
the entire file in memory, which failed for large files, returning
NULL. In this case, the code tried then to read the entire file via
QFile::readAll(), which deep below caused a bad_alloc exception in
malloc, resulting in the termination of the application. This change
handles the case where the library could not be mapped into memory,
in spite of memory mapping being supported, by reporting the error
and returning false, making the plugin unavailable.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QPluginLoader] Fixed a bug that would cause the
Qt plugin scanning system to allocate too much memory and possibly
crash the process.

Edward Welbourne f9b8ea4b0e Fix QMacTimeZonePrivate::previousTransition() for early after epoch
The native APIs don't support previous transition, only next after a
stipulated date. The prior code started its search at the epoch; if
used for a time before the first transition after the epoch, this
found no transitions so returned invalid data, when the last
transition before the epoch would have been suitable. It also wound
through all transitions since the epoch, on its way to the selected
time, which was potentially laborious.

Instead, start a year before the stipulated time; this should get a
transition if the zone uses DST. If it doesn't, start with the first
known transition and binary-chop our way to one within a year of the
last before the stipulated time; then wind forward one transition at a
time, as before. The chopping is actually faster than binary: each
time we find a transition after the interval mid-point but early
enough, we move the early end of our interval to the transition, which
is later than the old interval's middle. Using halving, starting with
a vast interval, should thus only incur modest cost, while ensuring we
give up early when no transition data is available at all or the
zone's first transition ever was after the stipulated time.

Martin Storsjö 5eaecaa966 Undef interface in more places, fixing builds with libc++ on windows
After including windows.h, interface is a define that expands to
"struct" (unless WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN is defined). This name is
used as a normal identifier in multiple places within Qt.

This has already been worked around in a number of places
(in e.g. 3ba61d9baa and
786d23bb49).

After qrandom.h was included in <QtCore/QtCore>, this header
implicitly includes <random>. In libc++ on windows, this header
then transitively includes windows.h, exposing the clash with
the name "interface" in even more locations than before.

For cases within qtbase internals, it could also alternatively be
handled by defining WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN while building QtDbus, but
for occurrences in public headers, the undef trick needs to be
used.

d3fault 1a4cc8d57b Add QIODevice::NewOnly and QIODevice::ExistingOnly OpenMode flags
When QFile::open is called with the NewOnly flag, the call will
fail if the file already exists. As usual, if the file does not exist,
it will be created. Like QTemporaryFile, there is a guarantee from
the operating system that you are not accidentally creating a new file
on top of an older file. When QFile::open is called with the
ExistingOnly flag, the call will fail if the file does not exist. The
ExistingOnly flag only provides new functionality when used with the
WriteOnly flag. For ReadOnly it provides no change in functionality,
as ReadOnly by itself already never creates.

When a deleteLater event is queued, a check if done if the same event
for the same receiver is queued before by scanning all pending events.
This leads to quadratic behavior, which is quite noticeable. By using
an unused bit in QObjectData, this can be prevented. Now the duplicate
event scanning in QCoreApplication is only done for the quit event.

Andre Somers abbd26f553 Add QModelIndex::siblingAtColumn and ::siblingAtRow
Data in item models is most often organized in rows, where each column
contains an attribute of the item represented by the row. Often when
sibling is used, it is to request another piece of data from the same
row. Having a specialized version makes this easier and less awkward
to do, simplifying

auto sibling = index.sibling(index.row(), columnOfInterest);

to

auto sibling = index.siblingAtColumn(columnOfInterest);

For symmetry reasons, siblingAtRow(rowOfInterest) was also added.

Tor Arne Vestbø 114f795221 logging: Break out alternative logging sinks into a well defined API
First steps towards a public API for having multiple output sinks is
to allow this internally.

We give all the different log sinks the same signature, with a bool
return value to signify if stderr has been handled.

The logic of not logging to the alternative sinks when the function
qt_logging_to_console() returns true has been moved into each sink,
so that they in the future may choose to log even when also logging
to the console, allowing multi-sink output. They must then make sure
to return true if the native logging sink has also logged to stderr.

The logic of each sink has been kept the same when it comes to the
formatting of the message. Some of these sinks should ideally use
the raw message instead of the formatted one, as they are structured
logging sinks.

Martin Storsjö 74118a4784 moc: Initialize staticMetaObject with the highest user-settable priority
The referenced static meta object for the superclass might be in a
different DLL. In this case, the whole QMetaObject can't be initialized
all via preinitialized data in the data section of the binary, but must
run code at runtime to fill in the value of the dllimported pointer.

In these cases, both GCC and MSVC initialize as much as possible statically,
while only filling in the dllimported values (QMetaObject::d::superdata)
at runtime. Clang, on the other side, initializes the whole struct
at runtime if some part of it needs runtime initialization, leaving
the struct completely uninitialized before constructors are run.

In C++, there are no guarantees for in what order constructors in
different translation units are executed. This in particular means
that there are no guarantees as to whether qRegisterWidgetsVariant()
in qwidgetsvariants.cpp runs before or after the runtime initialization
of QWidget::staticMetaObject.

With GCC and MSVC, this doesn't seem to have mattered since only the
superdata pointer of the staticMetaObject was uninitialized - everything
else was initialized, and the superdata pointer doesn't seem to be
accessed during qRegisterWidgetsVariant.

With clang, the whole staticMetaObject is uninitialized, unless the
staticMetaObject has been initialized before (and the initialization
order is undefined).

By setting a manual priority (which is a GCC extension that also
clang supports) for the staticMetaObjects, we can be sure that
these are initialized before the actual explicit constructor
invocations (without any explicit initialization priority) that
can access the staticMetaObjects.

Giuseppe D'Angelo 69496d4e22 Introduce QAbstractItemModel::checkIndex()
When implementing a custom model there's the habit, in each and every
function that takes a QModelIndex, to carefully checking the index
passed by the caller. This index is checked for "legality" (*): does the
index belong to this model, is the index pointing to an existing row and
column, and so on. These checks are hand-rolled and, as such, slightly
different and possibly incomplete (i.e. wrong) every time.

What's worse, these checks are implemented via "ordinary" code (if
statements). However, passing an illegal index to a QAIM function is a
precondition violation, and as such does not (and must not) be
checked in ordinary conditions, as it triggers undefined behavior. On
the other hand, while debugging a custom model or a custom hierarchy
of (proxy) models, having such checks in place can be a significant
aid.

Enter checkIndex(): a debugging helper for QAbstractItemModel and its
subclasses. checkIndex() centralizes the checks for legality of a
given index. User code is free to assert on it, or have some other
fallback mechanism in case a check fails.

(*) Using "legality" here instead of "validity" in order to avoid
confusion between QModelIndex::isValid() and what checkIndex() really
does.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QAbstractItemModel] Added
QAbstractItemModel::checkIndex(), a debugging function for
QAbstractItemModel subclasses.

Make sure we properly handle both directional embeddings as well as
directional isolates to determine the direction of the string.

According to the latest version of the Unicode bidi algorithm,
parts of the string contained inside an directional isolate is
to be ignored when determining the paragraph direction. Embedding
markers themselves are to be ignored as well, but not the characters
inside an explicit directional embedding or override.

This is also some required pre-work to get our BiDi algorithm
updated to the latest version of the standard.

Move the implementation to QStringView and implement the methods
in QString and QStringRef through that implementation.

Alex Trotsenko 89b0364cde QRingBuffer: avoid reallocations of the data
Since its initial implementation, QRingBuffer had the following
fragilities in the architecture:

  - it does not guarantee validity of the pointers, if new data will
be appended. As an example, passing an address of the QRingBuffer
chunk as a parameter to the WriteFileEx() function on Windows
requires the stability of the pointer. So, we can't add new data
to the QRingBuffer until the overlapped operation completed
(related issues were fixed for QWindowsPipeWriter and QSerialPort
    in 5.6 branch by introducing an intermediate byte array);
  - inefficient reallocations in reserve(), if a shared chunk was
inserted in the queue (we can get a reallocation in the place
    where we don't expect it:

      char *writePtr = buffers.last().data() + tail;  <-  line #133

    ).

Proposed solution is to avoid reallocation by allocating a new
block instead. That was accomplished by introducing a QRingChunk
class which operates on a fixed byte array and implements head/tail
pointers strategy for each individual buffer in the queue. So,
QRingBuffer is no longer dependent on QByteArray's internal
shrink/growth algorithms.

Like in commit 75cdf654bc, we use the
pointer value of the QMap header (which is of type QMapNodeBase) as a
sentinel. It's never dereferenced. In that commit, the issue was calling
end() directly; in here, it happens when iterating forward from any
element, which means nextNode() can reach back to the header.

However, using static_cast is wrong, so we use reinterpret_cast.

Tor Arne Vestbø ba44cdae38 Teach QPlatformWindow about safe area margins and implement for iOS
The safe area margins of a window represent the area that is safe to
place content within, without intersecting areas of the screen where
system UI is placed, or where a screen bezel may cover the content.

QWidget will incorporate the safe area margins into its contents margins,
so that they are are never smaller than the safe area margins. This can be
disabled by unsetting the Qt::WA_ContentsMarginsRespectsSafeArea widget
attribute, which is set by default.

QLayouts will automatically use the contents area of a widget for their
layout, unless the Qt::WA_LayoutOnEntireRect attribute has been set. This
can be used, along with a contents margin of 0 on the actual layout,
to allow e.g. a background image to underlay the status bar and other
system areas on an iOS device, while still allowing child widgets of
that background to be inset based on the safe area.

[ChangeLog][iOS/tvOS] Qt will now take the safe area margins of the
device into account when computing layouts for QtWidgets.

Marc Mutz 27aacfb61e QString: fix documentation of NUL-termination of unicode(), data(), constData()
(or lack thereof).

* `QString::utf16()` reallocates if `*this` has been constructed using
  `fromRawData()`.

* `QString::data()` ensures a writable string, so will detach from raw
  data.

* `QString::unicode()`, `constData()`, and `data() const` do not. They
just return `QStringData::data()`, which may point to raw,
  non-NUL-terminated data.

These functions can therefore not possibly have the same behavior, but
were documented the same.

Fix.

Also drop the discussion of operator[](size()), as that, too, was not
correct, and anyone who indexes with op[] beyond size() - 1 should not
rely on proper behavior.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QString] QString::unicode(), constData() and
`data() const` do not return a NUL-terminated string. This was true
before, but the documentation claimed the opposite.

Heikki Haveri e55c7974db Fix Android Service thread getting stuck in service startup
This change allows services using QAndroidService to function properly.
A service using a plain QCoreApplication is still affected.

The original code uses postfix decrement, causing an off-by-one error in
reference counting, which, in turn, fails to properly release a semaphore.

Fix by using deref() instead, which is also more readable, and consistent
with the use of ref() elsewhere in the code.

Thiago Macieira 48d677365a QStandardPaths: fall back to a default if PATH isn't set
Change 28666d167a simplified
QProcess::start{Process,Detached} by using findExecutable() instead of
using execvp, but this introduced an unintended side effect when the
PATH environment variable isn't set. It turns out that most libc have a
default fallback in that situation, which we didn't apply.

This commit applies the default directly to findExecutable(), which
seems sensible.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QProcess] Fixed a regression that made QProcess be
unable to find executables when the PATH environment variable on some
Unix systems wasn't set. This behavior should not be relied upon since
many systems do not have sensible fallback values for PATH.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QStandardPaths] findExecutable() will now apply the
default value for the PATH environment variable (as returned by the
POSIX confstr(3) function or found in <paths.h>) if the variable
isn't set in the environment.

Martin Smith efdcc88462 doc: Change invokeMethod() comments to work with clang
There were four dummy declarations for struct QMetaObject that were
needed by old qdoc to allow documentation of some very complicated
function signatures that old qdoc could not parse. clangqdoc can now
parse these signatures, but, unfortunately, old qdoc is still used to
parse \fn commands in .cpp and .qdoc files, so the dummy declarations
are still needed in struct QMetaObject. However, clangqdoc now
sees that two of the four dummy declarations are actually duplicates
of the other two, and then old qdoc complains when it can't find all
four of the function nodes, when it parses the four \fn commands.
This update removes the duplicate dummy declarations and the two
redundant \fn comments. The remaining two \fn comments are
updated accordingly.

This change also moves a couple of qdoc comments so they are located
with the function definitions that they are documenting.

Martin Smith 329e09a3c3 doc: Add missing template text to \fn commands
This update corrects about 200 qdoc warnings caused by incomplete
\fn commands for member functions of template classes. It can be
used as an example of how to fix \fn commands that suddenly cause
qdoc warnings now that qdoc uses clang to parse the \fn commands.

For example, with the old qdoc, we had this \fn command, which the
old qdoc handled correctly:

\fn QAtomicInteger::operator T() const

For the new clang-based qdoc, this \fn command must be written this way:

\fn template <typename T> QAtomicInteger<T>::operator T() const

However, the documentation generated by the clang-based qdoc looks the
same as it did in the old qdoc.
